Every time I open a media file WMP says 'connecting'. Connecting to what? Is it downloading the porn into my computer from the internet? I don't want that! Make it stop :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Yes I could use other players, but solve this problem for now :D

Perhaps it's connecting to get the song info to display?

it needs to 'connect' to get codecs? Oo

I think I read somewhere that WMP will phone home to Microsoft every once in a while. I don't know if that's true or not. Many players will report usage stats and suchlike. There is no reason whatsoever to use WMP to begin with, so even if this wasn't happening, I'd say stop using it.

As Yams/Unne said :p And it needs to connect somewhere (I believe it checks MS's site) to try to download codecs for whatever you're trying to play if you don't currently have the correct ones for that particular file :p

It says that because it is most likely updating your music library (or at least querying it) to update the number of times played, etc...

Also, if you have the option "add music to library when played", it could also be doing some checking there as well.

If you have the option "update missing info in my mp3/wma files from the internet" it could be checking for updated song info.

It could be a lot of things...
