I was really into Nirvana 7 or 8 years ago or something. And I am one of the guilty ones who started listening to them again after the greatest hits came out a couple of years ago.

It's good to see alot of kids getting into music that's 10 years old. I can't say I liked all those copycat suicides that came from one guy killing himself, though.

Nevermind is my least favourite album.

I LOVE Nirvana.

I only have one of their......tapes.....eh heh.

I love "Polly"---that's one of my favorite songs, ever. And "Heart Shaped Box". That new song, though...."You're Right", I think it's called, is also pretty good.

EVen though they're older, it's cool that they've been able to last. Their music can still stand up against what's out there today.

Kurt was a great musician but i think he was much better at lyrics than guitar.

Darkness cover? What?
1) The Darkness wrote that song, long after Nirvana was done.
2) Nirvana didn't cover that song. Seeing as they don't exist any more.

What the hell.

Anywho, Lake of Fire is my favorite. Dunno why.

Meat Puppet

Lake of Fire is by the Meat Puppets covered by Nirvana :smash: people say that Nirvana's one is better even though the Meat Puppets played guitar and Kurt Cobain just sang :(

He probably downloaded a song renamed on KaZaA or something. People like doing that.

Heart Shaped Box. Whee!

Smashing Pumpkins were better in all aspects anyway.
Nevermind is a rubbish album, i don't understand the hype and adoration it recieves. It's a very limited record. Although I am interested in the sound of In Utero and shall give that a go.

Smashing Pumpkins were one of those bands that produced some absolute crackers and a few complete turkeys.

Nirvana were ok - I get the feeling, though, that if Cobain had survived, they would have faded away with the rest of the grunge era.

1. Man who sold the world
2. Where did you sleep last night
3. Pennyroyal tea

It's only my opinion but I think Nirvana are overrated. I mean they are good, but they are not that good if you know what I mean. OK they changed music everywhere but you know

Guess what my favorite Nirvana song is!

They're pretty good, but I think Dave Grohl went on to better things. They're definitely overrated though, I'm sick of seeing Nevermind near the top of best album lists.

I don't think Kurt Cobain has any musical abillity, or anyone else in that band. The case is the same for every other "grunge" band as well, except for Alice in Chains.

I don't know how to repsond to that without making for of your stupidity. So I won't.

Oops.

My statement was of course barring Dave Grohl-whose 'probot' album was awesome.

If you want to hear a REAL guitarist, listen to Some of John Petrucci's work in Liquid Tension Experiment or Dream Theater. Idiot.

No...musical..ability? Maybe my ears deceive me, but NIRVANA can play their intstruments, and play them well. There is a reason why they made it that far in the music industry. Just because you dont particularly like grunge doesn't mean that they all suck.

I beleive that they do have talent and many years ago i LOVED them.(hey one of my fave albums ever is Unplugged in New York) However i don't feel that they are anywhere as good as people think they are and I bet if Kurt didn't blow his head off, instead of dying from an overdose (which seem like the popular death of choice) or simply staying alive, they would not be as popular as they still are. This is just my opinion, so please don't get mad at me.

They're definitely overrated though, I'm sick of seeing Nevermind near the top of best album lists.

I totally agree, your telling me, that there has not been enough good albums (from other bands) in TEN years to bump them off the charts? Please.

Doomgaze
10-26-2004, 02:53 AM
Oh, I don't care about that so much as the classics that are BLASHPHEMED by having Nevermind over them.

Probably the best thing about Nirvana, in my humble opinion, is the joke that circled around a few years after Kurt Cobain's death:

Hip and Witty Individual: Hey, have you heard the new Nirvana Greatest Hits album? It's stylin'.

Unsuspecting Setup Guy, of course slightly confused at the notion of a greatest hits album, seeing as Cobain has long since ceased to be: Um... no, what's on it?

HaWI: A gunshot and sixty minutes of silence.

Admissibly a low blow. But regardless, i consider Nirvana to be one of those bands more memorable in concept and effect than execution. They wrote albums worth of instant pop singles, which is undeniably impressive, but i think i vomit a little in my mouth every time i hear the average Nirvana classic these days. The less radio-friendly portions of In Utero have their moments.

By now, the directly "post-Nirvana" musical strains are tired and uninspired. Regardless of the band's importance, i think some acts - and maybe entire genres - need the reminder that Kurt is pretty dead.
