Let's play a little game, shall we?

Lets say that a very rich person ran into you at work and game you 1 million dollars, he says that you can spend it on whatever you want but with one catch; you only have a month to spend as much as you can. After the month is over you have to give back what left you havent spent yet.

Now lets kinda be specific on this. You might want to get a calculator and also think of about how many days it would take you to get this stuff.

Keep and mind, lets pretend the person gave you the money today or tommorow.

Here's what I've come up with

Parts to make the ultimate gaming PC.
Total time to get and make- 1 day
Cost- 6,000
Total left over- 994,000

Car Insurance for a year
Total time to get- about 3 days
Cost: About 1,200
Left over: 992800

A years worth of food and drink (for me so don't be surprized about this)
Total time to get- about 3 days (total trips to the grocery store)
Cost- 6,020
Left over- 986780

Legal drivers licsence
Total time to get- 2 days
Cost- 80 dollars
Left over- 986700

Apartment place for a year (I think you can pay for a years worth of rent at once)
Total time to get- 1 day
Cost: 3,600
Left over- 983,100

Bamboo sword from BudK
Total Time to get- 1 day to pay for but a few weeks to arrive.
Cost: 30
Left over- 983,070

All of the video games I wanted (SNK Vs Capcom, Guilty Gear Isuka Pre-order, Suikoden IV preorder, Suikoden I-II from ebay, Halo 2 preorder, Fable)
Total total time to get- 5 days
Price- 535
Left over- 982,535

10000 bags of pizza rolls
Time to get- 5 days
Cost- 64,900
Left over- 917,635

Honda SUV with all options and accessory
Time to get- 3 days
Cost- 65,000
Left over- 852,635

Centralized cooling system for wherever I live.
Time to get- 5 days
Cost- 900
Left over- 851,735

$3,600 for a year's rent? Are you planning to move to Bangladesh?

I'd probably pay for uni, buy a new car, buy a house for my parents, and give the rest away.

Yeah, $3,600 will cover about three or four months. I don't care where you live, there's no way in hell rent is that cheap.

And why buy a years worth of rent? You have a million dollars. Buy a damn house. With hookers. And booze.

Lots of it.

1. A house
Total time to get: two weeks, including legal paperwork and inspections
cost: $1,000,000 including tax and all relevant expenses
Left over: $0

The reason for this is simple: houses go up in value over time, especially million-dollar mansions. When the time was right, I could simply sell it off for a tidy profit, and do things such as paying off my student loan, being nice to cool people and charitable causes, etc.

House - $500,000
Car $50,000
Computer parts - $1500
Paying off college for me, my sister and my brother - $150,000...ish

Rest of the cash can go into mutual funds and bonds.

Total - 1.000.000 $

Week 1:

New Clothes - 200$ (2 days of shopping)
Total - 999800$

Trip to England with hotel - (more or less) 1000$ (a week)

Total:
998800$

Week 3:

Then I'd gave 100.000$ to my dad to buy the office that he wants...

Total - 898800$

And the rest of the money I'd kept it in the bank for a urgent situation! And for another trip to England or Greece... :p

I would buy

- l337 PC. Spending range $10k minus.
- A small stash of apple sauce, say $100
- Same goes for beef jerky.
- And canned lime tuna
- Dog food. For dog which I already own. lets say $20
- A Soul Calibur 2 arcade machine, 2player. Programmed with moves listing. Um...$2k minus?
- Extension of house for both the PC and the Soul Calibur 2 arcade machine. Price = $20k minus?
- dodo penguin. Price = pay some1 to steal it i guess. $10k minus. Start my offer at $5k
- Clothes. $1k
- Shoes $500

I'd give the rest to my parents as a cheque or money order form. That way I can tell the rich guy I spent the remaining $956180 on a 'gift' for my parents and he'd curse the day he never made me sign anything.

And booze.

Lots of it.

Almost forgot. Tan-Q Spiff!

-Booze. Price - $lots

Simple enough, land and real estate. Tie up all the money on tangibal stuff such as that. Then wait for the property to increase in value, then sell off later on for double the amount.

I'd buy a house. And a new car/truck. I'd stock the new house with furniture and other goodies. Like ed, I'd put the rest in bonds.

I'd buy a house and a super computer and a nice car, and clothes. I would go on a shopping spree! Then I'd fly to see some of my friends. Then I'd shop again. And then the month would be over. So quick. :(

Brewster's Millions, a tidy little story about a midget who constantly digs up gravel for his own collection of spit.

Could I spend a million dollars in 30 days? Sure can!

Pay off Visa: undisclosed amount -- One entire day, as it will be spent dancing about my house like an idiot in celebration
Go out partying, announce richness, hedonistic stupidity: who knows? 5grand?
If I live to see the next day:
Buy 1/2 million dollar house: 500 000 -- probably a week tops
Meanwhile:
Ludicrously pointless wordrobe from Randy River: 10...nay, 30 000$ -- May take two days. I intend to clear out the store, and probably would have to go to Toronto
Lots and lots of computers. let's see....2000$ per comp....60 000$!
Remodel house to fit my needs: 3 weeks, pay in advance, who knows how much...10 000 maybe
Furniture for new house: bought during last week. another 10 000!

Man it's hard to spend 1 million dollars....um...big happy travelling fun with a bunch of my friends! Lots of money!

-_- and the rest spent on exuberant amounts of alcohol, cheap women, and fun weeee!!!!

I don't have a job. Except to be awesome, but I don't specifically go to work on that.

I'd buy all the stereotypical 'What if you got a million dollars?' stuff. A home entertainment system, a flash car, tons of consoles/games, a few arcade cabs, some cool clothes etc. Then I'd use whatever leftovers there were to buy a house.

It's boring, but I don't honestly think I'd buy anything else.

Other things to invest in would be savings bonds, RRSPs, and the like. But the government usually limits your purchase of such things, so I didn't really include them.

Though if it's possible to buy a year's supply of the stuff in advance, spend 600 000$ to max out your savings bonds. Then you can live a relatively enjoyable existence :D

Of course, I'm assuming this is a million American dollars.

Watching Brewster's Millions again?

Buy a house in La Jolla. At least that shit appreciates, unlike your ridiculous depreciating "investments".

*cough* brewsters millions *cough*

:D

Buy stocks, cash them in as soon as my time is up. Then I would put it in the bank and take the interest yearly as a nice boost of cash in my wallet.
