View Full Version : What do you mean I can't make porn threads?

You know what we're missing? A "rules" thread stickied in GC. Then you lock it so nobody can reply. And then we give it a title like 'READ THIS BEFORE YOU POST' so that everybody will read it. In this thread we will address all the EoFF no-no's like bye-bye/I'm back/list/spam threads.

Yes? Thanks!

I reckon thats a really good idea.

we could do that if people asked about them frequently

chaos: Perhaps, but still, I'm guessing that it's in the FAQ or rules, or something, or someone with some sense wouldn't go make a thread about it within a blink of an eye.

Rubedo: Still, a "GC Rules" thread kind of thing could be quite of a help to get rid of all those spammy threads.

I think we need a more detailed FAQ, personally. I suppose I could do that... at some point.

I really, REALLY hate sticky threads as it is.

All the more reason to make it clear porn threads are banned.

Unne already has done it (an FAQ), it just got wiped in the upgrade. All we need to do is find his old one and put it up.

As for rules etc, I'm pretty sure it says something about posting offensive material in the terms & conditions you see when you register. If anyone is too stupid to realise we don't allow porn here AND is too stupid to ask if it's allowed before doing it, too, then they're not needed at EoFF anyway.

But people keep posting threads that break rules. And don't we typically circulate four sticky threads at any point? :D

People will always break the rules. This stuff happens. We have a thread like those you're talking about in EoEO and World Events, and I'm pretty sure we have just as many if not more than the average amount of people breaking rules in those forums. We don't try to have four stickied threads at all time - I'd say one or two seems about right for me.

Okay no sticky...um....let's make a rules thread and constantly bump it every so often! :p

A rules thread will honestly make crap all difference. Another point is that we don't go strictly by one set of rules - we work on problems case-by-case. So if people expect to bend the rules or if something was missed from said thread, everyone would call us a band of evil staffers who don't care about the common person. Which already happens so I guess there's no loss there. :p But yeah, see my two quoted posts and that sums up my point of view.

The bigger rules like porn and flaming are in the faq (when it was there) and should be no brainers anyway. All the smaller rules, like 'no I'm back threads' aren't major enough to warrant a thread detailing them all. Just make your topics and if they aren't legit we'll tell you. If you think it might be offensive or want to check on a rule always feel free to pm one of us or post in Feedback.

The FAQ is there and it seems to be the updated version from what I remember.

Whenever you view a thread, you will find a link somewhere on the page which will allow you to send a brief message to anyone you like. Your referrerid is added to the link you send, so if your friend registers on this forum as a result of viewing the link you sent to them, your referrals total will automatically be credited!

Hey, nifty, I didn't know about that. I assume they're talking about the email to a friend option under Thread Tools, though.

Why even bother? Nobody ever bothers reading a FAQ other than the people who don't need to. And chances are, when they needed to in the past, they hadn't bothered, and they got flamed for it, which is why they now know and understand and flame others for doing the same bloody thing.

It's just like trying to be a father figure or a big brother and hand down advice that nobody wants to hear. No matter how good the advice is, nobody's going to listen, so why waste your breath.

You can't put experience in text. Experience is knowledge or wisdom that you gain once it's too late.

Yes but if someone says well you haven't actually posted the rules they can go, well yes we have their here *and point*, then ban them as is all the rage nowadays.

"if someone says well you haven't actually posted the rules they can go, well yes we have they're here in both the registration form and the FAQ, then ban them as is all the rage nowadays."

Well, if I wasn't all dead serious about all these issues, then if I told a joke, people would actually realise it's a joke instead of taking what I said at face value. This would disrupt the balance of, uh, something, and then... uh... bugger it, I've completely lost where I was going with this.

I still say the one and only rule should be "use your f***ing brain" and anyone too stupid to follow tha rule should be banned, as well as forbidden from ever, ever reproducing.
