View Full Version : "Girls Gone Wild" during anime...?

Ok, so every Friday night on the International Channel they broadcast Tenchi Muyo and every monday they show Liscensed By Royality. Just so you know, these anime shows show very little, if anything at all, that would be considered 'inappropriate' for young children. (Heck, Tenchi is perfect for 6-12 yearolds.) But, during commercial breaks, they advertise two videos that, I would guess, features strong nudity and near-pornographic imagery. Now, I probably can't post the site here, but I don't if it's an actual porno, or just a comedy spoof. (For those not in the know, Doug Stanhope from The Man Show is in it.)

I won't go into much detail except that it advertises full-frontal nudity (censored in the commercial), and crude sexual humor. So....

Why is a commercial like this being shown during an innocent anime program where little kids are probably watching it unsupervised? What do you, personally, think of this? Also, have any of you actually seen this commercial?

Who doesn't know what Girls Gone Wild is?

And no it's not a comedy spoof. It's a video which is basically a camera crew that goes out and persuades real women to take thier tops off. Recently they've gotten celebrities to star in them, such as Snoop Dogg and Doug Stanthope. There's about fifteen video tapes, and they've been making them for a good five years now. I'm surprised you haven't heard of this until now.

They show the commercial here all the time, usually late night.

And from what I remember about the two times I've seen Tenchi Muyo, there were parts with nuidity.

You're probably seeing the censored version of Tenchi Muyo, the original has rather too many nude scenes in to my liking :p

Only sexual deviants watch anime.
Right, Spiff?

Im fine with companies advertising that kind os material any time they like, no matter who is watching. If they are gonna advertise that to children they simply won't profit. Period. We don't need bullsh*t like the FCC to decide what is best for me and you.

Tenchi doesn't have very much nudity, and when it does they have "Barbie bodies" (no nipples, pubic hair, etc).

Girls Gone Wild commercials are on every damn channel though. GGW videos are indeed porn. Some of them are just them giving girls booze until they're drunk enough to show their breats, but others are highly pornographic.

If I were you I'd write a letter to this "International Channel" and complain, depending on how the channel rates Tenchi. Does Tenchi have a TV rating on that channel? I think here it's rated as Y7 (suitible for children around age 7), and if I saw porn commercials in the middle of that I'd be pissed.

It really just depends. I think the international channels grab at whatever advertisizing money they can get. Graves, you said it's on 'Friday night'. How late?

I see those commercials on Comedy Central all the time, and they're really quite annoying. They're so degrading, cheap, and downright stupid, I find it extremely agitating to see them two or three times a day! :mad2:

The Girls Gone Wild commercials are everywhere. :rolleyes2
And Tenchi has nudity but like Shlup-ster said, it's all nipple-less and such. Off topic: I actually enjoyed watching both Tenchi movies. :)

Barney and friends is sponsered by, the blonde sluts series!

Untill I see something that drastic I don't realy think its TOO out of hand. Its pretty stupid of the movie makers though.

As long as its not hardcore lil kids don't wont care/understand/remember/bother asking about it. Just my opinion.

International Channel... isn't that cable?

Well, looking at the website, TenchiMUYO is on at 11:00 PM so that's late at night when most children are sleeping.

You'd think most children are sleeping. My nephews stay up until as late as 2:00 AM most nights.

I haven't seen any nudity on Tenchi that I can recall. I'm guess that they are censored then.

Shulp, it is indeed the TV rating of 'V7'. Odd, ya?

I'm not a hardcore conservative who thinks that all kids should be blocked off at any and all nudity and risque things (Far from it, really.), but it still bugs me. I don't mind it at 4 PM during an insomnia night, but I don't think it's completly alright showing it at 11:00 PM, when kids could be up and watching. Even if it isn't up to me what kids watch.

I don't know what the commercials are like on the International Channel, but the ones that I get on E! and Comedy Central censor any parts of the female body that offend people. (The notion of body parts offending someone seems ridiculous to me, almost to the point where I was looking for different wording when typing that...) So the the barbie-doll nudity in Tenchi would be more visually descriptive than the naked woman with black boxes over their bodies. And if they did in fact censor Tenchi and remove the barbie-doll nudity I would be more offended by that than plain old nudity because it's trying to instill a sense of shame in people to the point where it's no longer okay to accept that you even have these body parts.

It reminds me of the episode of South Park where the boys are playing violent games and one of them gets a ninja star stuck in his eye, but when Cartman's penis is shown on TV, the townfolk don't even recognize the fact that the kids are acting out these ultra-violent fantasies to the point of mutilating eachother and are solely fixated on the fact that people saw a penis on TV. ("My daughter saw his... p-penis. How am I going to explain that to her?") The point is that nudity on TV should not be the first priority of people when you can flip through your TV channels and at any point see gruesome violence on at least 1 show. Not that I think even that should be censored, but it's definitely going to have some kind of an effect on people when compared to a boobie, which never, ever hurt anybody*.

While I dont care about this being on, I'd like to point a few things out.

1. The nudity on Tenchi is Barbie-like to begin with, but when played on American tv they're given bathing suits and other things to hide their nekkidness.
2. The Girls Gone Wild commercials dont show any breasts, but they do spend five minutes talking about 'naughty coeds', 'hot girls', and so on. It's very blatantly sexual. I know I, personally, would not want my child to be hearing such things, but of course that would me that I, personally, would need to take steps to prevent that instead of bitching about it and whatnot. I just wanted to point out that it's not the nudity that's the problem.
