This is one of my favorite songs from Final Fantasy IX.
Its so good that I just had to make a special thread dedicated
solely to this song.
If you don't remember where the song appears I'll tell you,
it plays after Cleyra has been destroyed and Zidane and company are on the Red Rose.
Specificly, it plays during Beatrix' little escapade.
So what do you think of the song?
Edit: replace the last option in the poll with "piece" instead of "peace" I was little fast on that one :D

Yeah it's a great song! Love it. Not the best in the game, but defenatly a great song.

Isn't this song called "Loss of Me"? Oh well, whatever. It's one of my favorites, but not quite my favorite. I can play it on the piano :)

The best song in FFIX!!

I forgot about that ...
Hey, I think it's also played when Zidane's looking for Dagger in Disc 3!
But, Zidane didn't know where she went, so, he's trying to find Beatrix first. The song perfectly suited Beatrix.
PS: What does "Rose of May" mean?? I don't quite understand.

I thought it was Loss of Me, too. I can't play it yet though, I'm working on
the song "Attack" from FFX. http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/lovesmile.gifhttp://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/lovesmile.gifhttp://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/lovesmile.gifhttp://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/lovesmile.gifING NUTS...pardon my French. :p

Uhm, it's good. There are plenty of better songs on the FFIX soundtrack, though.
And "Loss of Me" is just a mistranslation.

"Rose of May" is the real name, but "Loss of Me" has the advantage of actually meaning something to do with the game. It's a nice description of Beatrix's inner turmoil about behaving in a non-Paladin-like manner after getting manipulated by her Queen, rather like Cecil, FFIV's Dark Knight turned Paladin.

chaos: I definetly know that Loss of Me was better than good, yet still, there are countless amounts of great pieces of music on FFIX that it's hard to choose.
Rubedo: But overall, I found it catchy, and it could really show the true beauty of many scenes. Nearly the best, for me.

Hey, does anyone know the name of the song that is played in the area between Dali and Treno? It's that place with the two gates.. The music is somewhat similar to the intro music, but not identical. That's the nicest song. So peaceful. It's also played during Steiner and Garnet's travels at the South Gate.
Edit: oops, missed the topic. Yeah it's a good song. One of the best of FFIX :) Not the best though.

Great song but not the best. I love it. But I still think the Dark Messenger and You're Not Alone are the best...

I prefered the faster one called Protecting my Devotion, myself. Rose of May sets the mood for me, nothing more.

I'm sure i've heard it somewhere before...

FF9 generally does have a nice sound track, and that midi is the final fantasy theme, it has two, the crystal prelude and that although its not used so often now.

Yes, that mid is the main Final Fantasy theme, yet it does not appear in them much anymore. It appears in 9 in the end credits. Though it is mysteriously not in FF10.
Anyway, back on topic, I didn't think that Rose of May was that hot.

Didn't you ever fall in love? Well, I guess no then. So, you don't understand what it means.
Now I remember, it's also played when Beatrix saw a letter at the dock. And, she said sth like,
Sigh... Alexandria is at peace again...yet my heart is full of sorrow. Why...?
Why? Why her heart is full of sorrow? Eiko feels the same too. So, she don't wanna be alone anymore.
Beatrix's cool but it doesn't mean she won't fall in love.
What do you think about Squall and Cloud? They're even cooler!!
It has nothing to do with Queen Branhe ... No one will care about the queen except Dagger.
Rose is a once blooming variety.
This means it will bloom only once a year in the late spring or early summer. (early summer = late May ~ June)Therefore, "Rose of May" means the rose about to bloom!
And, "Loss of Me" means my heart no longer belongs to myself. It's become a part of the other's heart.

It's quite good. Protecting My Devotion does it better though. In fact that is my favorite video game song ever.

That mid is in all of the Final Fantasy games except 10, Tactics, and MQ. It appears at the start or ending. The only ones I remember are:
4 it appears at the start,
5 - end,
6 - End,
7 - end,
8 - ?
9 - end

Rose of May / Loss of Me, which I consider Beatrix's theme, is a very good song, though not the best in FFIX soundtrack, IMHO. It also has some nice arrangements, such as Sword of Doubt and Protecting My Devotion.

That song is often called the "Prologue", but since it plays both at the beginning and at the end of FF games, I think "Prologue" would be a misleading title. FFV and FFIX soundtracks call it "Final Fantasy", and FF Concert 2002 calls it "Final Fantasy Theme". This is where the song plays:
FF1 - When Light Warriors cross the bridge in the beginning (all versions) and during the ending credits (WSC and PSX only)
FF3j - When you get your first jobs from the crystal, a few notes of it also play during the ending
FF4 - Cecil and Kain leave Baron, before the final battle, during the ending
FF5, FF6, FF7, FF8, FF9 - Ending
Other FF titles - Doesn't play anywhere

chaos: I believe it also plays in the ending theme of SMRPG, or at least something like that.

Nope, it doesn't. It's not the same but the ending theme in SMRPG is still great as well.

"Rose Of May" is definately a good tune, like many af the songs from FFIX. I especially like the rearranged versions, though, mainly "Protecting My Devotion".
My favorite songs in FFIX, though, were "You're Not Alone", "Dark Messenger", and the theme for the Black Mage Village. Don't remember it's name, though. :/

I thought this tune, which I also consider to be Beatrix's theme, to be one of the best in the game. I just love it! I don't think I could actually pick ONE to be my favorite though. Whenever asked, both this theme and Kuja's theme come to mind first.
