View Full Version : Help me out here (Classic duos - FINAL! Garfield & Odie vs. Calvin & Hobbes).

The End of Year Ciddies 2004 are just a few weeks away now, and with fourteen of the last Ciddies dropped (including two Ciddies which have been around for over two years now) and replaced, I'm still looking at the classic duo awards at #48 and #49. Past pairings have included Batman (Batman) and Robin (Yamaneko), David Hasselhoff (RSL) and Pamela Anderson (ShlupQuack), James Bond (Del Murder) and a Bond Girl (Britt), Sailor Scout (Agent Proto) and a Samurai Pizza Cat (James Latimer Cockney Rebel) and twice have Pinky (Jojo, edczxcvbnm) and the Brain (Wyllius, Wyllius) appeared.

But now I've decided it's time to let the users decide which pairing will be next. Featuring a bunch of couples from all over the place, from Sesame Street to Star Wars, arch-enemies to the hopelessly in love, you can now help the Ciddies Committee decide on who we'll be voting for our comrades and not-so-comrades to be, 32 duos will be going head to head with each other in order to achieve true Ciddie-worthy status. So, come one, come all, and vote for the couple YOU think would end up as the most interesting #48 and #49 Ciddies!

TIP: Try to pick something that you think wouldn't have too obvious a winner, though, as it's a lot more fun when a Ciddie doesn't have an obvious winner. =]

This mini-tournament is likely to be a pretty quick one (possibly one round per day or so) so make it snappy.

ROUND ONE OVER, ON TO ROUND TWO! (http://forums.eyesonff.com/showthread.php?p=901969#post901969)

AB Bonnie & Clyde vs Starsky & Hutch
CD Bush & Kerry vs Peter Pan & Wendy
EF Ren & Stimpy vs Beavis & Butthead
GH Calvin & Hobbes vs Roadrunner & Wile E. Coyote
IJ Tarzan & Jane vs Homer & Marge
KL R2D2 & C3PO vs Garfield & Odie

EF Ren & Stimpy
GH Roadrunner & Wile E. Coyote
IJ Homer & Marge

KL was really tough for me. Both would make great Ciddies pairs, but I felt Garfield and Odie would offer more competition from a larger variety of members.

Loony BoB

Nope. Firstly, I don't have enough MLT awards. Secondly, if I did go with the old 30/20 split of awards to create more awards, I'd still need a duo award. I've actually considered using the Simpsons family as well as the six characters from Friends in past Ciddies. Just ask Nikkei. =] We've probably come up with more new award ideas that haven't been used than new award ideas that have been used. :p But it seems people really liked the 40/10 split, so either way it won't work. Can't drop the duo!

I'm actually quite shocked at the departure of some of these, but hey, the majority want them so I guess the majority will be happy. Or something. There are still a few good pairings to go, and hopefully next time I'll be able to have more time for this and also be able to include more couples - and I also think I'll include the older couples such as Pinky & The Brain. That one's my personal favourite.

My vote: Garfield & Odie (more distinct personalities make better awards, in my opinion)

That sounds like a good reason to make your post longer than three characters! You only need to put in something like "C&H" or "G&O" :)

No, because I'm being a whiny liberal. Since my picks aren't even in the final election, I'm going to use the rest of the thread to whine and complain about how the world is going to heck now that Darkwing Duck and Launchpad aren't going to be in the dynamic duo category.

Yeah, anyone can vote, it's all good. :) Thanks!

Award Guy is on his way over to my place now, so if we get enough votes overnight on this thing, he reckons he might be able to start the Ciddies tomorrow...

Almost all Ciddies are sorted now, just waiting on these two and also two others which will change depending on what these two end up being.

It's good to be back. :aimsun:

This is an interesting matchup, because it shows a lot about the people voting.

People who voted for Calvin and Hobbes appreciate one of the greatest comic strips ever written/drawn, and look forward to seeing this complex relationship applied to two of their fellow forumgoers.

People who voted for Garfield and Odie are drooling idiots.

I didn't vote for my favoured cartoon, I voted for the duo that had more obvious personalities. There are so many sides to Calvin & Hobbes that it would be too difficult to pick out a member to match him in general. With Garfield & Odie, you've got the dry sarcastic type with a hidden soft spot and then you've got odie, the dumbass.

So being picked as Odie means that person basically won the "Biggest Dumbass of EoFF" Ciddie.

Or perhaps we thought Garfield and Odie might be an entertaining matchup? I'm not religious, but I still thought that Adam and Eve/David and Goliath would have been damned good matchups. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but I didn't vote for Threepio and Artoo because I felt they wouldn't be interesting enough.

Also, I feel there's far more chance of me getting votes as Odie. :D

Every Ciddies has had some kind of Ciddie which is designed for someone who has done something foolish in some kind of way. To Nikkei and I, they are called "The Dumbass Awards". Past winners are, in order: Agent Proto, Loony BoB, Cheffie, Joel, Citizen Bleys and HOOTERS. :)

Will this year's Ciddies not have one of those, then?

Because if you're looking for a replacement, Award Guy's User Notes have some suggestions. :D
