Five or six, started with FFII (What we now know is FFIV). I didn't have any trouble with the reading, my cousin actually relied on me reading it since he couldn't read it as well and was too impatient to do so anyways. That was my first introduction into speed-reading since he never let me actually play the game except on a few rare occassions. I had to buy FFIII (What we now know is FFVI) myself to actually get to play it.

When I was 11-12 years old, 9-10 years ago. It was FF1. A friend of mine was staying the night and brought the game over. Next tine I went to his house I borrowed it.

I was....hmm....well the first one I played was FFI and it was soon after it was released which was....*goes to check*...1990? Is that right? It seemed longer ago than that...oh well. Anyway, that would have made me 7. So yeah. 7. <_<

Don't scare, but I was..........17. And now I am 20. And I meanwhile have all FF-games for the PS. And I loved it ever since. I played FF since my 17, but I first saw it at a friend when I was 15 I believe. Boy, that seems so long ago, but it is only five years.

I was 12 when I first played FFIV (the FFII SNES version) in 1994. Or rather, I was 12 when I went to my friend Korine's house and her mother's boyfried bought the game and she was playing. Then, after a lot of complaining and threatening to go back home, she let me try. I was hooked instantly. :p

I'm glad I got involved with the games at a young age. It started out as something fun my dad and I could do together while he was home (he works offshore) and it grew on me from there.

Back in 1991, i got Final Fantasy legend 2 for gameboy (the original one, obviously), I loved the game with all my heart, but then I lost the game and kind forgot about it, and then i think it was in 2000 or 2001 i bought FF8, just to see how the game had progressed thru the years, and BAM!! I was hooked. And now i have beaten 6,8,9,10 and X-2. And then when i am not so busy with school, i will catch up on the rest.

In late 1998 , played my friend's copy of ff7 right up till the second disc. Iwas only 11then , but my understanding of it all was considerable - loved it , so continued to play the sequels over the next five years, particularly 8and 9 , returning to complete ff7 just last summer there !

I started when i was 12, my younger freind was showing me Ff IX and i asked to borrow it. I became an addict after the first day of playing :) :D I've been playing for about 2-3 years now.
I was seven or eight years old when my cousin Zack showed me FFIX and I loved it, it got me into games before I would buy crap like Glover, I bet if I got a Nintendo 64 instead I bet the game that got me hooked would be Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time and I would be on EOLOZ (Eyes On Legend of Zelda) or something while I like LOZ, FF is better it would probably be vice versa if I had a N64.

Gracious, I remember playing Final Fantasy when it first debuted in America, back when I was 3. So roughly a good 14 years ago back in 1990. Though I remember that my dad purchasing the original release 16 days after I was born on 12/18/87. I still play both the Japanese release and the original American release to this day. Good times... gooood times.

It's kinda weird to think that there were people who were only 6 when FF7 came out. I mean, the first one I played was FF2 (SNES) right after it came out. I rented it. But then shortly after, I bought FF1 for the NES, and then bought 2, 3, and I was confused as heck when they made 7 instead of 4. I looked into it, straightened things out, and since then....
Well, I'm getting off topic. My bad.

When I was 15, a friend and I went to our local rental store to rent a game and a DVD. We looked around and couldn't find any games that we wanted (I wasn't familiar with the RPG genre at the time). Then, in the corner of my eye stood an interesting little game called Final Fantasy X...This is how my RPG obsession started. It was only two years ago, but I have since beat six FF's and a whole bunch of other RPG's.

My first was FFII SNES, and it was when I was 7, back in 1992, when you could still rent SNES games. Why did that have to change?
After returning it, my brother bought me FF1 for my birthday, along with the original Strategy guide for it, which I still have.

I was 15 when I first played Final Fantasy.....
began with FF VIII which launched at 1998-1999 and became very popular so I attracted to but it.
Then I continued to play FF V, then FF VII, FF VI, FF IV, and finally FF IX :D I buy also the FF origins, but the graphics are poor and the gameplays are boring, so I stopped.
It was in 2003 when I was 13 years that I play for the first time FF.

Let's see, I was born in 86, my mom got FF when it first came out, 1990 i believe. I didn't actually play myself, but my brothers and my mom played all together, Like i'd press the buttons for a fight, my brothers would look at the enemy chart and decide to run away or not, and my mom would sort of watch us and tell us where to go and stuff. It was a team effort, but I loved the game and played it many times. Then we missed getting FFII(IV) and couldn't find it anywhere, so we waited and my bro and I bought FFIII(VI). My oldest brother still insists that that is final fantasy III not VI because it was released as III in the US, and all I can do now is laugh. But yeah, i've been playing them as early as I could, even though I didn't get most of it!

Hmm... I first played FF1... at least a year before FF6 came out (as FF3) in the USA. Going by a few other posts, FF6 came out around '94, so it was around '93 when I played/beat FF1, and that would make me... 7 or maybe 8 years old at the time. Wow... heh.
And beat it on the NES, on my.. I think second try. Mainly because on my first try I just randomly picked characters, not realizing that White Mage + front slot = dead white mage... I didn't read the manual or anything until after being killed by.. I think a Madpony, about 3 minutes in. Heh...
And up until a few years ago, I still had that big sheet with every monster's stats on it... slightly crumpled and taped together in places, but it was still there. But now I can't find it... :(

I wanted to vouch for my brother, AbroJTM, here... He is my younger brother, and I would like to say that he doesn't give himself enough credit here.
When AbroJTM was 3 (before he could read), my older brother (the oldest of the three of us) received Final Fantasy II (FFIV Easytype) for Christmas. AbroJTM was 3, I was 11, and my older brother was 13 at the time. My older brother and I had been playing quite a bit, and to exposed AbroJTM to the game by putting audiotapes of recorded FFIV music in his room while he slept in his crib/bed (don't remember if he was still in a crib or not). Apparently, the engraining of Final Fantasy into his toddler mind is still influencing him today. From the time we started playing in Christmas until about 6 months later, AbroJTM would say "Final Fancy!" when he wanted to watch us play it, which was all the time... and, of course, my older brother and I had no problem with this. AbroJTM would turn the game on sometimes when he just wanted to listen to the theme and stare at the screen/intro for literally hours at a time. He was hooked before he understood the difference between a boy and a girl.
In any event, my older brother and I came downstairs to our playroom one day to find our barely 3-year-old brother actually *playing* FFIV. He had watched us play so much that he had learned how to load the game up, and he started a new game (remember that he couldn't read, and obviously didn't know the controller THAT well, even though my older brother and I had shown him how hitting the buttons makes stuff on the screen move).
We were initially worried that he had erased a save game or something like that, and were about to get mad, when we actually looked at the screen and saw where he was and what he was doing in the game. He actually progressed from the beginning of the game ALL THE WAY to the END OF THE MIST CAVE before we found him there, playing. Both my older brother and I were astounded to see that AbroJTM could actually get that far just from having watched us play so much. He knew how to find his way around Baron, and even fight his way to the end of the Mist cave. I don't remember if we let him play to see him get to the end of it, or if we took the controller at that point, but wow, it honestly took my breath away to see what he had accomplished.
This is one of my top 5 most vivid memories of my little brother as a toddler/infant, along with when he got his fish who died the night he got it when he was 3(which he named "Stop", because it "stopped"), recalling him with his fire truck he got for Christmas at 2, which he called "Fire Fruck", his digging into his first birthday cake after he initially had no interest in it (our mom put his finger in the icing and then in his mouth, at which point he smiled, and he then dug into it completely, making a mess), and his "poopie face" that he made when taking care of business (also goes along with "karate chop" and "point to your nose", which are other stories in and of themselves).
Ahh, nostalgia. But no, AbroJTM, you didn't start when you were 5, though that is when you began to play the original FF, and you did indeed get to ToF2kYitP. Give yourself more credit, you were well on your way through FFII/IV easytype when you were THREE.
As far as me, I began when I was 4 or 5, can't remember which, playing the original Final Fantasy, as it had just come out and my older brother got it for Christmas. It's been almost 20 years since then. As if that's important, considering the story I just told...

Last year. When I was 11 years old (Ya, dude. I'm 12 old. AND U R A D1ck H35D HAHAHAHAHAHA [Or.. NOT.].).
I always was thinking that FF is just a stupid 3D game with a lot of remakes and continues, something dumb as MU (Which isn't that bad.. I think.) for the Sony Plastation 1 or 2. Which I haven't any of them. And that sucks. When I saw some pictures, it looked cool. even L33T (Or... NOT.). So I've played it. And enjoyd.
And here I am.

I guess I was 10 or 11 when I started, whenever FF1 was released in the US.

25. Really.
I decided do write a graduation thesis on Yo/xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gifaka Amano and so I decided to download all the ROMS I could get my hands on with the excuse of seeing the way his drawings had been transposed into videogame graphics.
Today I beat my first FF ever: Final Fantasy VI.
Of course, I found myself Final Fantasy dependent, just like everybody else in here.
LOL, it got censored. Y o s h i t a k a Amano, the artist who has been the visual concept designer for all the games in the series now.
