I challenge anyone to name a movie death scene better than Sonny in The Godfather.

Roy's death at the end of Blade Runner.

Not sure why, but reading this title, I thought you meant "best death metal music scene". Sigh, and I got my hopes up.

Ramirez's death scene in Highlander was pretty good. It was so dramatic, with the lightning and the head rolling down the collapsed stairway. It also reinforced your hate for the Kurgan.

I can't remember too well, but didn't that Russian guy from Rocky 4 also kill Rocky's trainer? I thought that was a pretty good death scene too.

Two Death Sequences, Though They Involve More Than Just One Person's Demise:

1. Opening Sequence of "Saving Private Ryan"

2. Ending Sequence of "Dr. Strangelove"

And how could we forget:

The death of Bambi's mother?

Take care all.

The opening of the ark in Raiders of the Lost Ark, face-meltingly good, naziriffic death scene.

It may not be better than Sonny, but what about Tony Montana in Scarface?

I enjoyed (in an artistic sense) that death more than Sonny's actually.

Good job I wasn't serious then.

Anyway, I'd probably agree with 'Kishi and go for O-Ren's parents, though Palpatine's end in ROTJ was pretty cool too. If I could choose my death, I'd want to fall into a near-bottomless pit while shooting lightning from my fingers. :D

Second best! I almost added a footnote to my first post saying that this answer was just as acceptable.

Optimus Prime was also a good answer.

Arwen's death
uhh... did I miss something? that doesn't even happen.

but I would posit that Gandalf's death in the first one is a very powerful scene.

actually some of the coolest death scenes ever are in a horrible B movie called Cube - it's about some people who get trapped inside a giant cube and have to escape.

True Lies, Arnold Swartzenegger film director by James Cameroon. Arnie's hijacked a fighter plane to save his daughter (Eliza Dushku) who has been captured by the terrorists (lead by Art Malek) to a construction of a highrise block. Eventually after chasing her along a crane, Eliza ends up in the fighter plane, with Art on the wings. He falls off, but his backpack snags on one of the missiles, leaving him dangling.

Cut to a close up of Arnie : "You're Fired"

Bam, the missile is lauched, with Art along for the ride. The missile flies straight through the building, straight into the remainder of the terrorists, bewildered as their leader comes flying towards them on a missle.

BEST DEATH EVER!

When Cactus Sac was fighting against Sugar Bear in the movie, Big Money Hu$tla$. He was about to execute a splash on Sugar, but that Juggalo pulled a sharp piece of broken wood from his leg, and held it so Cactus Sac would land right on it, heart first. His parting words: "Steak through the heart....that's the second time....this....week...."
