The Future Of Reality TV?

Everyday, it seems a new reality TV show comes out and further pushes the envelope, so I pose the question to you, will we one day reach a point where people actually kill each other for the purposes of a show?

Ha, I don't think so. The whole reality thing is losing flare. Viewership is down in most of the shows already. A show with top production value, like Survivor, will still get ratings, but I don't think a lot of these fringe shows will be around in a year or so. The in show now is the crime drama. And then in a couple years something else shiny will take its place. I don't care what other garbage they put out as long as Arrested Development and 24 still air.

A very good point. I just wonder if the "death rattle" (no pun intended) of reality TV will include some sort of fight to the death.

Most of the stuff I like has already been syndicated, so like Del said, I don't care what stuff they put out.

To answer your question. Reality TV is a fad. We won't see it around very much longer.

See, I'm trying to picture this, but all I see is Sonny Corleon and a Pirate fighting in claymation ala Celebrity Deathmatch.

I'd watch that. Sonny would win, sure, but it'd still be great.

I've just lost all faith in mankind, having witnessed an advert for 'Hard Spell', a reality show based entirely around children's ability to spell. :eep: Looks like they've finally run out of ideas, but they're still trying to push reality TV on us.

That's odd, because I figured some of these reality game shows are more intelligent than your average show.

Shows like Big Brother, The Apprentice, and Survivor all focus around strategy. People who enjoy these shows enjoy strategy. I think it's brilliant. It's probably not intended for young audiences though, which is more than likely the reason that virtually everyone on video game message boards despise these shows.

I've seen more strategy in an angry mob breaking everything in the street, throwing rocks at the policemen, then at the average reality show on TV.

Well, I haven't seen any reality shows in the past year and a half, so maybe after I stopped watching 'em they became really intellectual, strategic and interesting. Maybe.

Hopefully reality TV will die out completely soon. I absolutely detest American Idol and most of the other crap "reality" shows Fox puts out. The only good reality show I've seen is Last Comic Standing, but c'mon...it's stand up!

Reality TV sucks for the most part...mainly because there is little to no reality in it because reality sucks and is boring as crap. I have never watched big brother, survivor or the apprentice. The only ones I have ever caught a glimps of were all the really stupid ones such as Simple Life or Fear Factor. Both of which are not very entertaining. Fear Factor at least tries to be more of a game show and less of a reality TV show.
