Well I really do. I remember that Saturday was the day to look forward to when I was a kid because of all of the great cartoons on. I mean, we had: Pirates of Dark Water, Spiderman, X-Men, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (original cartoon), Looney Tunes, Gargoyles, Superman, Batman, and a whole lot of other great cartoons. It had to last until early afternoon. Now, it just seems like silly nonsense is shown, and not only that, the silly nonsense that kids enjoy today doesn't even last longer than 10 a.m. or so. :( What sad times we live in. :p
EDIT: I almost forgot about The Tick.

I'm sure the older folks thought what we watched was silly nonsense. But as for it not being on, that's because now there are whole cable channels devoted to cartoons/kids programming. It's kind of depressing, but I dont mind because the only instances where I'm up while Saturday morning cartoons are on is when I've been up all night previously.

yeah me too, and the cartoons that they had before school, they used to have anime at 7-8:30am, and i'd always get to see it. And other days too, the saturday ones were the best, and a few on sundays too :(

I really liked TMNT, My Little Ponies, Rainbow Brite, Wuzzles, Fraggle Rock, and Rose Petal Place. Among others, but those are the ones that come to mind right now.

Even with all the cable channels devoted to cartoons I still don't think they are of the quality that ours were. Except for maybe spongebob.

A lot of the old cartoons from the early to mid 90s were good, but a lot were crap, just like today's cartoons. KidsWB and Fox both run cartoon shows on Saturday mornings from 8am to 12pm, which is about the same as it always was... so I don't get how anything's changed except the shows. There are a lot of good shows now... The new TMNT isn't half bad (the old one is actually pretty horrible... I recently watched it), the new Batman show is pretty good too. Teen Titans is really enjoyable as well and so is the Jackie Chan Adventures. The only thing is that a lot of the shows nowadays are anime that's all chopped up and stuff... but the end result isn't too bad if you haven't seen what it was like before.
Of course, we'll probably never see a cartoon with the same quality as the original Batman series... that stuff was classic, and it ran for 10 years. Not bad for a cartoon. I think the best cartoons on now are probably Teen Titans and Kim Possible.

I miss Eek the Cat.
Recess on 1 Saturday Morning was my favourite Saturday cartoon. :D
Ed, Edd, and Eddy is very hillarious in my opinion. It's stupid and ridiculous, but I love that stuff. And Spongebob is genius. Who would think someone could makes so many funny episodes (and so much money) out of the adventures of Sponge? Teen Titans is great too. It's one of my favourite shows on Cartoon Network.
But Captain Planet... I was just watching that this morning cause I have to wake up early for school. I hate that show. I think Captain Planet came about from a lot of people in a room trying to think up a show that could hold as many bad puns and morals as possible.

Thankfully, Recess thrives on the Disney Channel. Otherwise, I would've shot my TV a long time ago.
That, and the other show they had, Fillmore. I caught an episode of that on vacation once, and it's actually pretty witty. I'd never seen it when it was on ABC, but I approve.

I'm sure the older folks thought what we watched was silly nonsense.
I don't know about that. I mean, my dad would be just as into some of the cartoons when I was a kid as I was. And apparently some of the older folks I work with discussed this subject and we came up with a lot of similar shows that we enjoyed in times past.

Kim Possible is horrible. So are most of the other cartoons that come on Nick and Disney now. Although I must agree that SpongeBob is quite wonderful. ^_^
I miss Saturday morning cartoons from my childhood too. I miss the original Sonic the Hedgehog series, the original TMNT (although the new one isn't bad either), the original X-Men, Fraggle Rock, Belle and Sebastian, David the Gnome, Pound Puppies, My Little Pony, Care Bears. And Ren and Stimpy, and Rocko's Modern Life. Though I've been told that Ren and Stimpy still airs somewhere...does anyone know what channel or when, if this is truth?
Oh, I almost forgot about BraveStarr. That was one of my favorites that I used to watch every Sunday morning. :(
And yes, Adventures of Pete and Pete owns. SNICK used to kick bootay.

In the morning when anime would come on, I would watch it then and after school. Those were the good ol days:D when you could like Ronin Warriors and not look wither crazy or gay. I miss Looney Toons and Hysteria. They were funny and educational, and funny. For people who don't have cable, if we watch it or just have it on, it's on WB for two hours or something and then on almost every channel in the morning on Saturday. 3,6,10(not really sure) 17 and 29

I thought i was the only one that remembered Rose Petal Place ( i had the toy car and dolls), what about Duck Tales, Tail Spin, Animaniacs, Sailor Moon, Sharky and George, Chip and Dale Rescue rangers, the raccoons and don't forget Dinosaurs (http://www.thalia.science.ru.nl/funpage/television/dinosaurs/)

Spider-Man was the greatest cartoon ever made that isn't The Simpsons. Saturday morning kicked butt. I always loved when TGIF did a rundown of the cartoons before the new season started.

I like G.I. Joe and Dinoriders, but I think I must've been dreaming when I watched these, seeing as everyone else thinks I'm crazy and that they don't exist. :'(

I've always had the impression that Power Rangers was some Japanese show that people chopped up and added english actors to part of it. it was always so disjointed.
The Tick, Eek the Cat and Earthworm Jim! one cannot find such genius anymore. I mean, you just can't get any better than John Cleese narrating in a completely unworried fashion, "We join our heros on the planet Heck as they are in grave peril and face certain death."
*note to all smackers and punchers* one really can't know a person without having fought them ya know. I think it's great everybody wants to know everybody else as intimately as you obviously do. the love.. just.. makes me :whimper: anybody got a tissue?

The Power Rangers were awful. Just awful.
The Tick was masterful! I can't believe I forgot to include that. I also forgot to include The Legend of Zelda and the Super Mario Brothers show. I loved those! *sniffle* I wish I could get all these old cartoons on DVDs.

what was the show about the aliens who looked like dinosaurs and rode around in dinosaur shaped ships and could hit a button on their chest and morph from dinosaur lookin humanoids to the actual species they resembled? there was like an evil T-Rex and his Brontosaur and triceretops henchmen and a good Allisaur (how do you bloody spell that?!) and an archiopterix and a few others.
what was that show? it wasn't on long. but it was fun.
nobody's heard of it? DeBlayde's showing his age again? *hides*

Spongebob? I don't see what's funny about it. I'm not saying I don't like it, I just don't get it...South Park, now that's stupid and funny, and I still kind of get it. Fairy Odd Parents is okay, but I can find Power Puff Girls more entertaining for some reason. Oh well

It's FAIRLY Odd Parents, by the way. :)
I don't like that one, either. PowerPuff Girls, yes.
Does anyone know if this stuff can be found on DVD? Like My Little Pony, Pound Puppies, BraveStarr, David the Gnome, etc. Y'know, general 80's stuff. I haven't seen anything in stores except for the occasional movie (Care Bear movie, etc.)

Kumbaya.
Yes, both the quantity and quality of Saturday morning cartoons have fallen. The early 90's used to have runs till 1 in the afternoon, usually starting off with the lighthearted stuff (Bobby's World, etc.), and finishing of with X-men, Ninja Turtles, and just because it was so cool, The Tick. (A big, blue, salmon of justice swimming upstream to the very spawning grounds of evil!)
Saturday morning "jumped the shark" with power rangers. The well drawn quality cartoons were replaced with degenerate live-action crapfests. And the good stuff, with a few exceptions, never came back.
Anyone else remember Captain N? (I think that was it... he had an NES controller on his belt that gave him super powers, and he teamed up with Kid Icarus and Megaman to fight Mother Brain... good times...) Or Exosquad? ... I'm sad now.

Captain N, The Game Master...I loved that show. And I do remember Exosquad ever Sunday morning. I enjoyed it. And anyone remember Reboot? Also, there was this 3D cartoon on Sundays on the WB that had something to do with this chick travelling to different planets which each represented an element to try to get them to ally together against some greater foe that destroyed her planet. I can't remember the name though. o_O Anyway, I loved it. Beast Wars wasn't so bad either.
I loved Ghostbusters back in the day too.

I don't know if they have the dvds, that's why I was asking. :P Pound Puppies came out around the same time as MLP, and Care Bears too. They were all good cartoons that I loved as a child. I had coloring books, too, and I still have a cardboard box full of MLP's at my parents' house. *sniffle*
I'm not surprised that you haven't heard of them. My Little Ponies and Care Bears are coming back now because marketers are smart. They know that my generation, the generation that grew up with them, are now old enough to be having kids of our own, and therefore would more than likely buy them for said kids, if for nothing else than nostalgia. Same goes for Weebles!
Ah, the memories.

Reboot was good too! Megabyte is definitely in my top 10 villans list. That other cartoon you're thinking of was called "War Planets", and was really quite cool. There was a toy line that I never got into at all, but the cartoon itself was great- awsome 3D space battles.
Beastwars was also really underrated. I swear, in the last seasons they killed off characters left and right. My fondest memory is "Inferno", a fire-ant badguy, reffering to Megatron as "My Queen", having the mentality of a ant hive soldier.
There were several Ghostbusters, but let it be known that none were as entertaining or well drawn as "The Real Ghostbusters", wherin late 80's haircuts and proton packs ruled the day.
