I love rock music, some pop, some j-pop, and classical music is also nice. I like most genres except Hip-hop and Country (I despise country.)

I absolutly love Evanescence. They're my favourite band. I like to sing, so I'm into bands/singers with good lead singers, and Amy is an amazing singer. I like their lyrics as well, they write their lyrics. Also it has piano and sort of choirish chants which is stuff I love. :D

I also like System of a Down, My Chemical Romance, A Perfect Circle, The White Stripes, The Rasmus, Jimmy Eats World, U2 (Well, the songs I've heard are pretty good) Christina Aguilera (Solely for her voice), Old Hybrid Theory Linkin Park (they're dissapointing now... Collaberating with Jay-Z... wtf :( ), and other bands I really can't think of at the moment.

I'm in to indie, ambient and alternative. And I'm currently starting to like electronic.

My favourite band would have to be Broken Social Scene, though. They're basically a mixture of ambient and alternative. I'm guess you could say I'm in love with them.

The bands and musicians that I listen to a lot are Feist (<3), Interpol, The Arcade Fire, Björk, M83 and Neutral Milk Hotel.

I'm currently getting in to Metric right now, they're kind of retro-y.

There are two things I don't discriminate against: people and music.

Okay, there is some leeway for the latter, since I don't like country and don't like pop. But everything else is just fine.

I generally listen to modern music(rock, alternative) and hip-hop with some R&B thrown in for good measure.

I don't have favorites, but if I had to pick: Alanis Morissette, U2, Michelle Branch, Bone Thugs N' Harmony, 2Pac, Staind, Bowling for Soup, Sarah Mclaughlin, Howie Day, Five For Fighting, Toby Lightman, Vanessa Carlton, John Mayer, etc.

I like rock. Not the pop-punk or nu-metal sludge that gets unceremoniously and unfortunately lumped in with 'rock' these days.

The Rolling Stones, The Black Keys, Powderfinger, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Audioslave, Razorlight, Franz Ferdinand, The Stone Roses, Tom Waits (not really rock, I know), Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Zwan, The Who, The Datsuns, Jeff Buckley, The John Butler Trio, The Lemonheads, The Living End, The Mars Volta, Mother Love Bone, Pixies, Primal Scream, Smashing Pumpkins...

It is very difficult to categorize me when it comes to music. I'm very much in to almost everything, except for mindless Techno, and I listen to everything with the same hapiness inside. Of course there are artists who I like more than others, but they don't change my taste for different flavours in music. I can, with certainty, say that I have alsmost always been a fan of Michael Jackson for example, but that doesn't have to mean that he's overshadowing all the other artists out there.

I think most of the music that is popular today is utter, utter crap. It's too loud and gives me a headache. The songs aren't about anything, and I think a lot of bands/artists are very, very overrated.

I do like country, however, though very few other people do, and an even fewer amount of EoFFers. There are people that actually <i>play</i> instruments, and have talent, even if people that discriminate against it don't think so.

In addition, I like folk music, and John Denver is my favorite artist. I've never found a more talented guitar player (we're talking acoustic here; JD never played an electric guitar in his life), and his voice and lyrics are incredible. I love him in every way.

If I have to, I can listen to stuff like Stairway to Heaven and some 3 Dog Night songs. For the most part, I like soft music, not loud. I like Barry Manilow. Other than country when it comes to modern-day music, I CAN listen to some Maroon 5 if I have to. But not usually. I'd like Evanescence if they did nothing but play the piano. I don't like Amy Lee or that whole goth thing they've got going. I don't like the techno aspect of it, either. I just like the piano playing.

EDIT: Oh, and yes, just to piss a few more people off, I hate Pink Floyd, and I hate the Beatles.

That's partly true I think. Sure some sangs are talking abuot absolutely NOTHING, but that's only some. There are a lot of somgs that actually have a meaning to them and aren't just a bunch of words put together with a beat made so that people will only hear the beat and like the song...

Of all the genres of music, techno and rap/hip-hop require the least amount of talent. But just because they require little talent doesn't make the music bad.

But no form of music requires more overall talent than classical. But to emphasize what KB said, yes...most artists today are overated...but every opinion of music is biased. Some overated artists like Avril Lavigne have good songs, even though they don't give the credit to people who deserve it.

Most of Puff Daddy's songs(P.Diddy) were better back when he was still with Biggie and a year after his death, the music put out by P.Diddy is pretty weak compared to his mid-late 90's stuff.

But one group I always had a fondness for is Bone Thugs N Harmony, too long of a name, but their music was just so addicting. Their R&B-tinged speed rap paved the way for artists like Outkast. Hell, just listen to Notorious Thugs, you might not understand the words if you're not use to their style. Too bad they don't make anymore music.

People like Alanis Morissette, who never had a great voice(but a good voice, nonetheless), can compromise with great lyrics(listen to Ironic) and great overall music(Head Over Feet).

So voice isn't the thing that drives this music industry, it's more the overall talent. Five For Fighting's 100 Years is a great example of using the piano to emphasize the song rather than using voice. John O. doesn't have the greatest voice, but his overall talent is way above average. John Mayer has a great voice for his line of work, which compromises some of his compositions(though not all comps are his work).

But it's just a matter of taste, it's amazing how some songs can stay on the radio forever. It seems like Shaggy's Wasn't Me, it's almost 4 years old and they still play it.

IMO musical talent is to be able to create music which I enjoy listening to.
Not to be able to play your instrument well.
I value the ability to compose music higher then the ability to be able to play it.

You couldn't have said it better.

Bob Dylan can't sing for <img src=http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/lovesmile.gif><img src=http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/lovesmile.gif><img src=http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/lovesmile.gif><img src=http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/lovesmile.gif>, yet I still consider some of his stuff artwork. It's also great to listen to.

However I do like alot of music that requires no real talent at all. I listen to punk rock all the time, and there is very little talent musically there. However, it is still good music.
