Hmm, well the 4-1 or 4-0 thing isn't really fair to seifer because he was ganged up on. (though usually you can beat him with just Squall anyways) Squall actually only beat him the first time by himself, so it's more like 1-1. (tie? :confused: ) When Seifer is controllable, he is at a disadvantage because he cannot remodel his weapon and get better limit breaks. Seifers base stats (at level 100) are better than Squalls (he has higher HP(like 2000 higher) a little more Spirit, 1 more strength, Agility is Seifers greatest advantage though. (I think it's like 38 to 45) Squall has 1 more vitality and 3 more luck, Seifer beats him in all other areas (they are tied in magic though)) So in a one on one battle with level 100 Seifer and level 100 Squall, Squall would probably win because of a much more useful limit and remodeled weapons. With moves like demon slice though, it would be a very close match. Squall is still cooler though.:D

One thing I noticed about the way the two fight is that Squall has very vulgar attacks. You can see it in how he runs up to the enemy, whereas Seifer glides, almost flies up to the enemy in a graceful manner. This... agility Seifer has might give him the advantage over Squall. One thing to note is that 'graceful' does not equal 'effective' A vulgar strike kills just as hard as a graceful one, and two hands hit harder than one. Squall and Seifer are FIGHTING, not having a beauty contest.

In the opening video, Seifer uses Fire Cross on Squall to give him a scar, and Squall immediately counters and gives Seifer one going the other way (the opposites theme again, anyone?).

In every following battle, Seifer gets his @$$ handed to him on a silver platter.

Even assuming they both had equal stats (255 in everything, 9999 HP), and neither used limit breaks, Squall would win. Seifer doesn't use his gunblade properly 50% of the time, and often seems more intent on taunting Squall than fighting. Squall has a much more serious and professional attitude, so he would win.

I never saw Seifer to be extremely weak as the rest of you seem to. Say he was able to train/equip himself in the same manner that Squall does. (GF, Weapons Upgrades, etc.) If he was able to do those things I think he would stand a fighting chance against Squall. Actually, I believe his statistics are naturally better then Squall's.

And to compare how Seifer fights, when put up against in-game mechanics seems somewhat unfair. Overall, I'd say they are quite even until later in the game when Squall's training and advancement opportunities far outweigh Seifer's. Then Squall becomes rather overpowered.

But yes, if we look at them, and don't factor in the idea of the game battles, I think they are supposed to be quite even, storywise. Thay are close rivals until Seifer completely loses his way to the Sorceress.

Seifer was bent on power and was willing to do whatever he needed to get it. he lost his was and squall remained ture and focused! they were rivals and were equal in states through most of the game. but the one thing that stood out to me is that seifer trained and fought constantly to beat squall an pushed himself to his limit to become powerful. Seifer wanted to win more than Squall to prove himself, yet Squall fought knowing that he had to win for what he knew was right.

IF they were fighting alone, as we see they do in the starting movie, it would pry end up into draw, as we see in the starting movie, 'cos Squall is more, so to say, furious or spirited fighter, but Seifer 'fights dirty' aka uses whatever technique available. Do some people really call that cheating? When you're fighting for your life u will do right like seifer (cheat?) and if u never fight with full potential u won't know how much u are able to do. If u don't know your potential, u won't be able to use it.
BTW, Seifer uses Fire Cross (limit break) and Squall counters with Rough Divide (limit break). So, sure everyone must agree they both 'cheat'. And I don't think that kind of cheating is bad, but just in case someone says something like: "Squally cheated only because big bad Seifer started it" I would want to ask 'If your friend jumps into well and kicks the bucket, u see it and follow her, won't u be even more stupid than your friend, may she rest in peace?'

In the opening scene, it appeared as though Squall was fighting with everything he had and Seifer was just kind of playing with him, not really trying as best he could. The only time he looks at all like he needs to fight back is when Squall renzokukens him. Not to mention that Seifer can block all of Squall's two-handed gunblade swings holding his gunblade with just a single hand. He obviously has the power advantage. Squall is however far more cunning that Seifer is, and he would eventually find a way to beat him. So I think Squall would win, but he will be left barely standing when he does.

They were meant to be rivals, I don't think one would be able to beat another alone. They would end up killing each other. Except if Seifer fought dirty and hired a gunman to take Squall down...

I believe if Seifer was a playable character in your party and could junction and upgrade he would be > Squall. However that is not the case, and he's stuck as a brainwashed bodyguard (how much stronger can u get sitting around waiting 4 Edea to be attacked? Instead of questing around attacking monsters and soldiers) Besides when you do fight him, he's an AI not a human. If I were controlling Seifer fighting Squall I would have done much better, like healing more etc, junctioning.

Anyways, I loved how Seifer and Squall were designed to be the opposites. Squall is an realist while Seifer is a idealist, while Squall fights for nothing, (Stereotypical rebel without a cause) Seifer fights for his dreams, a romantic.

Squall is indifferent to others, and wants to distance himself from others (at least in the beginning.) While Seifer actually insecure and soft and tries to hide it by being arrogant and venting his pain by bullying on others. He wants to be reassured and be close to others, he is afraid of failing.

I mean Allies in WWII bombed the crap out of civilian towns, killing hundreds of innocent ppl, did that make them evil? Anyways, I've noticed whenever he does his limit he casts fire then follows it up with a physical attack. The movie Squall uses to counter him looks similar to his limit break (if not actually being rough divide, being a movie it will not look like it does in the game. I mean u can get shot at in battle mode but in a movie u get shot it actually hurts) I could call Squall cheap for attack Seifer unprepared, surprise attack. I mean after Seifer connected he wasn't ready to fight squall. Seifer is a playable character during the SeeD field test. He's still nothing compared to Squall.

Squall is fighting for a reason: it's his duty. Originally, he was just following the orders of his superiors, and then he was put in charge of Garden and told to go hunt down the sorceress. He doesn't like it, but what's he supposed to do?

Squall fights because it's his duty? Duty for what SeeD? What does he believe in that SeeD provides him? He's not the type to care for ideals of others, he doesn't care who he kills as long as he get's paid at least in the beginning. That's what SeeD is a Mecenary group that fights for money not ideals, not much duty. Duty for what? Money?

As Squall says, "There is no good, there is no bad. Just perspective and opinion." He's type to fight for the thrill of fighting, at least in the beginning. A badass, until he meet Rinoa.

Yes it was a training exercise, but when two ppl hate each other things tend to go a bit far. Even in horseplay with friends, you hit him a little too hard, he hits back even harder, before you know a full blown fight breaks out. And in a fight you want to hurt someone, especially with rivals and with a sword it's likely you cut someone, if it was really WAR, they would have fought to the end, killing one or the other, not give each other only scars.

P.S. how squall holds his sword looks like he's jacking off...with the swords as his phallic, at least imo =D

Yeah I've done that, junctioned at all he's ridiculously easy. 1st time it's 1v1 anyway, the last time you can draw aura making it a sinch. And the other two times he does about 300-1000 if you've junctioned to life you'll have about 5000 life and to a lot more damage than he does every hit.

Back on subject as someone said whoever you're playing as wins:
You're Squall to make the storyline continue you have to beat seifer.
You're Seifer I assume the same would be true for you.

But Squall with 2 companions beat 4 forms of Ultimecia/Griever and all 8 of her stronger guardians. The best seifer has done is defeat odin, but he is just another of guardians- and the weaker than the others. You beat his mistress and him, Squall wins

I have beat Final Fantasy VIII many times. Squall and Seifer are best friends. DUring the first half of the game, Squall is concerned about Seifer and thinks about him a lot. He even says that he liked him and respected him. Squall and Rinoa are a great couple and I like Seifer, too. I beat the game many times and Squall and Seifer are ebst friends during the first two discs, but by the end of disc two, things change. Squall, Rinoa and Seifer are my three favorite FFVIII characters.

Just a personal thought...

Squall, in game, would easily defeat Seifer, due to his limit break. Assuming that a) they had made seifer able to gain multi-hit limit breaks and b) not made Seifer the villian, who obviously couldn't be more powerful then Squall in game cause Squall is indeed the hero, I think they would be very close to equal. Squall has a far more damageing gunblade, but Seifer is
very agile, so the fight would be a tie, removing all cheap tricks on both sides.

Squall would probably win, he's got all his powerful Limit Breaks at his disposal. Seifer's physical attacks are weaker and he rarely uses his Gunblade properly.

of corse Seifer has junctions, how else would he use fire on squall in the openings sceen also didnt Quistis say that haveing a GF was a perquisit for doing the exam and as he did the exam you can only assume that he indeed does have GF's and Junctions
