So now that DVD+R9 (Dual/Double Layer) 8.5 GB DVD burners are not only out but reaching the sub-$100 price range, has anybody got one yet? I started to, but then I cancelled my order and spent the money on liquor instead. Where the @#$% do you find media for the buggers? I can't find it in-store, and online vendors are charging upwards of $10 per disc for no-name media.

Has anybody found a worthwhile media vendor? If so, I may reconsider my decision to "(deleted) DVD+R9"

Last time I checked, Verbatim wasn't a no-name brand :p I wouldn't know any vendors where you live though :p

I'd wait for Blu-Ray (25-30GBs of storage).

Maybe so, but the two layer DVD-Rs have their... advantages.

The cheapest I can find them is $6 each over at pricewatch, but it seems the store that had them was sold out. I checked the websites of a few wholesale computer stores I know of, but it didn't specify whether the discs were single or dual layer, so it's probably safe to assume they're single.

Blu-ray is up to 50GB...

Yeah, I got a couple dual layer NEC DVD±RW drives from newegg. They were for other computers though. I still have my single layer Sony DVD±RW...

I pay 2$ per dvd-cd (pay more because I went cheap before and now I have 25 dvds I can't use), so if you're paying 10$ for the equivalent of 2 dvds, you're obviously being ripped off.

A dvd is ~7 cds, which is what, 3.50$?
