So far it's been alright (Deling City 1st visit), if a bit slow and cliche. It hasn't exactly blown me away yet. Does it get better or is the game just not for me?

It's not really a "blow-you-away" type of game. . . but it's still pretty good, the end of disk 1 is cool, and so is the whole ending part. I guess it also might just not be your kind of game. . . I thought it was interesting(but I'll always love VIII)

Does it get better
No. In fact, it only gets worse.

No. In fact, it only gets worse. Oh, it's not all THAT bad, really.

I don't know about you guys, but some of it blows me away.
Attacking Edea in Deling City (Premonition is an awesome song) is an example.
It's a love or hate thing...

All FFs get better the more you play them. It's a general rule of thumb.

It get's better for a nice while and then drops towards the end again. You'll find it's really good in some places and terrible in others. Remeber that if your just playing it now for the first time many of the ideas that are cliche now may not have been when the game came out. For instance if you played FFIX everything in all previous FF games will seem cliche because that game relies very heavily on its predecesors.

How can you not be blown away all ready?! :surprised I was impressed as soon as i saw the intro. If everything you've seen so far hasn't impressed you i don't see how any of the rest of the game will.

Don't give up until you've been in space, if you don't love the game at that point, turn it off and may God have mercy on your soul.

Believe me YES, it does, I am also right now playing it for the first time and I agree that the beginning was not very involoving but it gets WAY better, I am almost on disc 4 and this game HAS 'blown me away' completely. The storyline gets so good, I'm loving it. Squall and Rinoa are SO cute! and also kinda tragic, they better get together at end or I'll cry :D ;)

Well you might as well finish the game if you go that far, but yes, this statement is true.
The beginning of the game after the intro is rather dull compared to the rest of the game. It's starts to get good at the end of disc 1. The majority of disc 2 is good. It dies down at the beginning of disc 3 but then picks up quite a bit toward the end of disc 3. Disc 4 is short, but it contains the ending, which is uber-awesome.

I absolutely LOVE this GAME!!!
It is one of my Favorite FF's!!
It gets interesting after the first disk....you'll probably begin to question some things and that will keep you going.
Although I love this game, (played it about ten times!) I do not like the ending......but I guess what draws me to this game is the characters!

don't listen to them! they're all ff8 junkies. they're just telling the truth. I think the game just stays about the same from there on out. there are some sick FMV's though and I would have to say that either this or dd9's ending would have to be my favorite.

FF8 junkies eh? I'll take that as a compliment.
dd9's ending
That's a first. :D (I know it's a typo)
Yeah, the ending rocks.

Very unusual.

Final Fantasy 8. Starts of slowly and during the first cd it becomes great. And during the second disc it achives perfection. And its still two discs left, and it still gets better.
Final Fantasy VIII - the best game ever!!!

I first played through the game when it came out (I went to the store early and stood outside, waiting to buy the game, sad huh?) and was happy, but did not think that it was up to par with the rest of the franchise. Now I'm playing through it again in 2005. This time I am much more impressed with the way the game plays. The subtle tricks that you must learn to suceed in the game. It really is a love-hate game. Most people hate it, but those that love it wouldn't trade it for the world.

I can't really remember my first play through, I think I started to like it more and more as I played through. Now I prefer disc one as I like knowing how to do things I couldn't first few times, then I'm not really a fan of the middle because I'm waiting for the freedom of the end of disc 3

I prefer disc three.
You have the ragnarok. The most awesome mode of transportation to come your way in the game, as well as *my* favorite airship:D
Traveling by garden is more than miserable. chocobo isn't much better.
Being able to do things is all well and good (and there's more things to do in disc three than just about anywhere:D) but being able to go there in STYLE, now that's what counts.

Am I the only one who absolutely loved the first disc? It's basically a disc decided to high adrenaline missions. They're so fun and exciting; it gets your blood pumping.

Now that I'm almost finished with my second run through the game I can honestly say I enjoyed it much more on the second time around. That's rare in a video game, much less an RPG.
