View Full Version : So what, exactly, IS our tech level anyway?

This is currently too vague for me to make much sense of. On the one hand, I hearfrom Agent Proto's posts "industrial revolution" and/or "end of industrial revolution". This means basic factories and mass production, probably cars or whatever the logical alternative of cars are still considered in large part a luxury item, large rural areas, the emergence of "pollution", etc.

War equipment under such a level would be VERY primitive planes and tanks, a reliance on rifles, and anything approximating a machine gun pretty much requires either a fixed position or a tripod and crew. (for example)

On the other hand, in the war threads I am seeing things like jets, other more modern aircraft, nuclear weapons, microchip brain implants... I mean, at the end of the industrial revolution, there wouldn't even be vaccum tubes to put in peoples brains.

Not that there is anything inherently wrong with either scenario, I just think some guidlines and limits should be figured out.

(ed. The above reference to aircraft does not inlcude strictly and multi-era fantasy craft like airships.)

We SHOULD be early 1900's, but people keep making stuff up and saying they've invented helicopters and rocket launchers.

*shrug* Maybe I missed BoB or pr00t saying something. I dunno.

Yeah, I'm, annoyed by Carnage's "Nukes" and TT's "Helicopters"

That was for that fake war of yours. It's not official technology.

And yes. We'd be in the early 1900's regarding technology. With the magic, imagine the current tech level to be like that of Final Fantasy VI.

Cool! That means I can make some steam powered monstrosities. Will something based on Magitek be appearing? I think so :D

Huzzah! My favorite tech level.

I think we may end up in the same era for the RP.

I've been reworking the class system because of the tech level. I am probably going to be eliminating some of the older style classes and advancing the tech in some of the classes, probably add some classes that meld magic and technology. I'll post a new list when I'm done in the RP thread.

And your tall erect towers and shield

I'm trying on my end to bring the tech level back where its supposed to. As an example, I posted in the times that my country just invented the radio. Hopefully things will fall back to where they're supposed to be soon.

I still say we should be in the 1400s but thats me.

Some parts of Eizon can be behind in terms of technology.

Behold the Void

So as I understand it, an Eizon country can be anywhere in technology UP TO the 1900's?

Yeah, I'm, annoyed by Carnage's "Nukes" and TT's "Helicopters"

chaos: One, as Proto already mentioned, that was for your sad attempt of an imaginary war.

Rubedo: Second, you are being a hypocrite when you say that, as I recall you had large structures, bombs, methods of transmitting "poisin/explosives" into weapons, as well as putting up your "Tear" shield, during attacks.

chaos: I never supported Carnage's nukes though. Those did go to far, as they were used outside that battle.

Ya dont worry im not using those anyway. When was the first machine gun invented?

Behold the Void
12-13-2004, 04:27 AM
I believe the first machine gun was the gattling gun, which needs a stand in order to operate and has been invented at this point in time.

Jebus

The Gattling gun was invented in the mid-1800's. The BAR rifle, which was really a sub-auto was in the 1910's so its almost there. We do still have semi-auto pistols and revolvers. Plus various rifle weapons, though.

My new subs are allowed, right? i got rid of the stuff that i used in the big war, so they are weaker, and don't even have torpedoes yet, so can i still have them? :(

Jebus

Well, Germany had U-boats in WWI, but we're turn of the century. I don't know if the tech has been developed yet. You may want to look it up.

Behold the Void

You can have the first submarines :D

Those were little half-barrels with a guy swimming under it. The air pocket let them breath and there was a shelf for a bomb that they were supposed to stick onto a ship to make it blow up.

Or even slightly more advanced, the sub used in the civil war by the confederacy to try and break the union blockade- mind you, it was destroyed in the attempt, but it worked...

Could i keep the chips i put in the heads of my citizens. Its critical for my government.

That statement just struck me as objectively funny, independent of anything to do with Eizon.

Anywho Carnage, even if you can't, there are plenty of governments which have managed to inspire fanatical unwavering loyalty from their populations through creative use of propaganda, misinformation, and near-deitification of leadership.

I mean, you have a facist state. Just have your thugish social police force kill/imprision any detractors or political opponents.

Yea but this way if someone tries to start a rebellion i can blow them up :)

I think the chip thing would be out, that's way beyond our tech level. Enchantments, on the other hand...
