This isn't feedback but it is a question about the site so I put it in here.

How often are the forums pruned? Is it an automatic process, like a chron-job or is someone hopping on every so often and hitting the prune button? Also, is there any structure to how the forums are pruned? I noticed that some forums, like FFVI and EoEE have threads dating back to mid-November while General Chat's oldest thread is only from December 7th. Just wondering what the rhyme and reason to it all is.

Fine, its probably to do with it prunes posts when a certain amount of topics have been reached and in the less active areas less gets pruned because the limit isn't reached as often, either that or they let BoB at it :D

I recall Cid saying that GC would stay under 20,000 posts, but that was with a server long past. Mostly everything gets pruned except Arts and Writing, Site Staff, Forum Staff, and the archive.

With the new server I doubt it's necessary.

And no, it's not a cron job. That would suck.

If it were up to me eoff would never have been pruned in the first place. But then, if it were up to me post counts would still be enabled and kishi would be supreme lord and ruler of the universe, so maybe it's a good thing that it's not.

Forums get pruned whenever clout feels like doing it, basically.

Except I don't think I've ever done the pruning through the CP myself :p I do remember saying something about how the help/feedback forums won't get pruned by automation either though - I prune Help manually thread by thread :p

Speaking of which, when's the next mass-archive planned? There have been plenty of deserving threads recently. 'I H8 U SUPER DELETE U RUIN ALL MY THREADS!!!', for example. What kind of people are we if we deny newbies the pleasure of such a historic post? :)

We'll let you know when we're pruning next. I'm not in a big hurry to do it.

vB3 calls it's automated processes 'cron jobs' but they are far from being a real cron jobs.

They are just kicked off when a user loads a page after a certain time.
