Nobody, they made Showbiz, that was good, then the just made it again for Origin of Symmetry.

They just steal classical music, turn it into bad riffs, the "amazing" intro to plugin baby? Pentatonic scale on the guitar.

The songs are just scale -> pretentious high vocals + bad lyrics -> more scales -> more high pitched vocals -> scale based solo -> End

Every single damn one.

I can think of worse bands, but plenty of better ones too. I don't really mind whether or not a band plays simple or repetitive music as long as it sounds good, but Muse's music just doesn't appeal to me.

You don't need to be Vai playing every arpeggio you can think of and shredding your face off to come up with a good riff. Most bands play in scales, especially for solos, and even then some of the best riffs in history are retardedly simple. Smoke On The Water has to have one of the coolest riffs in history and it's barely noteworthy as something to play. And that riff to Plug In Baby might not be amazing, but it is damn cool.

I wasn't fond of Muse at first, but I grew to like them eventually. And watching Matt Bellamy play is something I enjoy a lot, because he's a showman.

I liked Muse a lot when they first came out but the most recent song, Absolution I think was a real let down. I agree with Pure Strife, if you didn't like songs based on scales or that drew on other sources in one way another you wouldn't be fan of popular music at all.

Bad lyrics is a matter of opinion I guess. I dunno, the guy sings in a key so high I can't here what he's saying. :D

i like muse, being over analytical of the form of music as oposed to the emotion can only lead to unhappy town.

good music. To call them brilliant would be a mistake though, it is fairly simple stuff. But simple can be good. Simple can also be VERY VERY BAD, ie: This "punk" revolution that is cheese-pop with safety pins. Muse at least puts some genuine feeling into it. cool stuff.

No they didn't because Showbiz has more acoustic elements than Origin of Symmetry.

They just steal classical music, turn it into bad riffs, the "amazing" intro to plugin baby? Pentatonic scale on the guitar..And no the dont steal & turn it into bad riffs. Matthew did not steal the peice from Ramanichov(sp) for Butterflies & Hurricanes he used the piece in the song because he is a big fan of Ramanichov's(sp) Piano music, so he gets his inspiration from him.
Space Dementia is a wonderful song & it would not have been so good without the inspiration.
Take a look at the song Sunburn for example the piano is very nice in that particular song.
So where would some songs be without a scale then, he does use different scales such as the harmonic and the blues as well.
I mean of course he is going to use the pentatonic scale as it is a great scale for rocky based songs.

The songs are just scale -> pretentious high vocals + bad lyrics -> more scales -> more high pitched vocals -> scale based solo -> End

Every single damn one.No they are most certainly not i suppose you have only heard a few songs by the band then.
I do agree some of the lyrics he comes up with are absolutly S**t, but going on to solos aren't most solos used with scales?
A solo yes can be used anywhere on the fretboard but sounds much better in a scale because it will be in key. That is like saying all he does is use chords for his songs....perhaps because the song would be a whole lot slightly better.
No hard feelings though ;) :)

No they didn't because Showbiz has more acoustic elements than Origin of Symmetry.

I've got to admit, they didn't really progress from Showbiz to Origin Of Symmetry. They only dropped the acoustic to create more intrest in the band. Acoustic isn't really what "rock" fans like sadly, althougth I love them. Muse wanted to break into the mainstream, so the electric was pulled out. This explains slightly why Showbiz is better, it was made personally, where their latter ones seem so economically aimed.

And no the dont steal & turn it into bad riffs. Matthew did not steal the peice from Ramanichov(sp) for Butterflies & Hurricanes he used the piece in the song because he is a big fan of Ramanichov's(sp) Piano music, so he gets his inspiration from him.

Errrr.... that's stealing. To be inspired by him, he would have used Ramanichov's style and created his own music. However, i enjoy the song still. The problem is, is that you can only defend so much. let's just accept he took it or "borrowed" it.

No they are most certainly not i suppose you have only heard a few songs by the band then.

I have all the albums (they were intresting oringinally) and they do sort of flow into one another. A bit like Keane really. It's not a bad thing but what you said is soooo typical of a fan. I love the Smashing Pumpkins and Bjork, but I accept that YES some of their songs sound similar. There are so many chords and effects one can use on a song. Sometimes they need recycling. It's a fact of music.

do agree some of the lyrics he comes up with are absolutly S**t

Now if only he could prove his voice had some depth, and the tone of it changed, we'd all be happier. Seriously, I feel he doesn't alter the pitch much, except to get higher. Over 3 albums, his voice hasn't developed, and that's odd for a artist, as they mature or develop.

Muse are okay, but I'm, not gonna defedn them needlessly.

I have showbiz, I've listened to Origin of Symmetry, and I was forced to sit through Absolution several times at a party.

Oh yes, I've heard VERY FEW SONGS clearly.

I have a fair basis for my OPINION of them, and it is essentially completely true.

And I have nothing wrong with using scales as the BASIS for a piece of music, but just using the plain, EXACT scale at the intro of a song and claiming it for your own is pretty damn wrong.

To be honest you really have a rubbish opinion, no need to be sarcastic with me, the way you stated you're opinions it just makes you seem like you know absolutly bull about the band, & matt does not use scales that much for his solos, for example on New born he does not use a scale, Sing for absolution dosen't use a scale.
And anyway this thread was who likes Muse, not Who likes Muse but if you don't then you can slag them off just here.

Stop being mean, just talk music eh?

I can understand how they could be found immature, but I think sometimes you need something a little raw. And I like them because they appeal to me. Enough said.

Firstly, don't be mean. They'res no need for language. If you don't like what he's saying, ignore it. And also, you CAN'T HAVE A RUBBISH OPINION, it's logically impossible. You appear rather zealot-like...

I'm not going to try analyzing their music. I just thought I'd say I listen to them now and then. They're not awesome, they're not awful.
