Well, surprize surprize the PSP has a defect! After the whole PS2 defect thing back when that came out, you'd think they'd learn not to rush a product to release.

Defect Video 1: If you move/tilt the PSP even slightly while playing it, it shoots the disc out. Boy is that a set back or what.
http://www.geocities.com/nippon_nights/pspdefect2.mov

Defect Video 2: If a PSP detects a Nintedo DS near it, it shoots the disc out at it. XD Sony wants their users to not own a DS, so the PSP is programmed to attack and destroy! (ok, not actually a defect... but still funny)
http://www.geocities.com/nippon_nights/psp_vs_nds.avi

And apperantly this isn't an isolated event, complaints of projectile discs are popping up everywhere. lol

I MIGHT have believed the first one, but that second one is definitely bogus. I'm not sure where the 'eject' button on the PSP is, but I'm pretty sure these guys are just pressing it while they are playing...

I haven't heard a word about discs popping out... so I'm gonna assume this is just a prank of some sort.

But it's a website on geocities so it has to be correct.

Its not bogus... it just means that the guy figured out what angle to tilt the PSP, so that this happens... as far as I can figure... the disc is supposed to be locking in while you play a game. But this defect causes the game to eject, if the system is tilted wrong...
Sony is using their own twist on mini discs for the PSP, good thing about that, Children wont scratch the discs... on the other hand, there is still a small opening on the case where someone could scratch it...

Either way, its still amusing... =P
And notice how it ejects? Its like a freaken handgun. That's going to scare the crap out of people the first few times they do it.
Another thing, the PSP feels real fragile, like I could break the thing. I sure hope they built it with hyper children in mind.

Also, I had to post it on Geocities, cause I lost the real link durring a chat... When I find the real link I will post that here.

And until the time a real, respectable link is posted, this will be disregarded as a stupid rumor.

As soon as I can, I'll post it... does anyone know if AIM keeps a message history?

I'm not against PSP... I like Sony, and as soon as PSP is out with more games on it, for lower than $50 each, I'll buy one.
I'm not trying to spread rumors... I just wanted to post an actual defect people are experiancing with the Japanese PSP.

Only game company/system I don't like... is MS and their Xbox... MS is a big enough monopoly without feeding on the gaming community.

oh and I just checked... it can cost between $400-$650 right now, just to import the PSP... >_> The PSP is still selling in Japan for about the equivalent of $300.

I find that very hard to believe.

I just watched the videos again, and it actually looks like he's 'twisting' the PSP back and forth... that might have something to do with the spitting out of the disc. It's still very fishy. Also, there's no way the PSP will spit ou the disc because it detects a DS nearby. The DS in the video isn't even on...

Yeah, I'll go with the bulls excrements gang. But I still dream of the day when game consoles transform into cyborgs and beat each other up. That would be awesome. I also almost type off instead of up.

That made my evening.

Be pretty funny if Sony did manage to bugger another console launch though.

This is just one of many things that are going wrong with the PSP and after the bad launches of the PSone, PSX and PS2...You would figure they would take their time with a hand held that is going to be getting whipped around...NAH!

Although the PSP is far from transforming into a rocket launcher and decimating Nintendo products, there have indeed been many reported defects in PSPs. (From another forum... borked link/japanese language warning)

OK, reports from different Japanese sources confirmed different kinds of defects on the first shipment:

Where is the eject button on the PSP placed? Maybe it's placed somewhere too close to where the hands rest on the PSP.

I knew I wasn't the only one that had found these defects XD

Okay... I THOUGHT it had something to do with the twisting of the PSP... though that still sucks, it's definitely better than 'move/tilt the PSP even slightly while playing it'.

Tidus Andronicus
12-16-2004, 06:31 AM
Even if you put a little twisting force on it (as many children are gonna do out of frustration... or fighting) it shouldn't do that...
Can you imagine getting into a game, and hitting the buttons a little harder than usual on one side (causing a little twisting) and the disc shoots out, possible hitting a friend or knocking over a drink... and on top of that you lost your game place you worked so hard for...

If the PSP is able to be 'bent' enough to cause this error... boy is that shoty construction on Sony's part.

My observation of those videos, leaves me to beleive that he is just playing a game on it... moving the PSP as would anyone else playing it.

Thank god we have the japanese to test everything on.
