You can take it further and make the claim that a good number of Square's leading men come from the same "I'm a loner who initially thinks only of myself and the applicable leading lady, until the inevitable epiphone that there's a universe that doesn't revolve around me and said lady" pool. Cloud and Squall are two examples that everyone here should know of.

Honestly I never realised the resemblance between the two, but it's obvious now that it's been pointed out.. Paine = chic Squall.
