So, I finally discovered the magic that is The Simpsons. I've only seen the DVD's, which are seasons 1-4, but I still love that show. What're everyone else's thoughts on The Simpsons?

The Simpsons was the most awesome show for a long while. Lately it's been well... not bad, but not Simpsons quality good. I dont watch anything but reruns anymore. Seasons 3 through... like, 7 I think are the best. Hilarious stuff.

I agree with Ashley here too.

For a while, the Simpsons were so spot on and sharp with their commentary that we've become spoiled into thinking every show must also rise to this level. Though it's probably inevitable that the show would begin to lose steam after SO many years and episodes, to look back at the sheer volume and scope covered always leaves me in awe. The show also set the way for South Park, for Family Guy and a whole new generation of "shock" cartoons, one's that push the envelope more than ever, whether with their racy jokes, controversial messages, or just crazy situations and characters.

When the show does indeed end, it'll be like saying goodbye to a small piece of history as it has given so much yet always continued to impress.

Take care all.

I used to watch the reruns when I could find them. I don't even do that any longer. I haven't seen a new episode in a long long time. I read (a while back) that even some of the Simpsons voice-actors think the show is starting to suck. Wish I remember where I'd read that interview. One of the big mainstream news sites.

When I was a kid my Mom never let me watch the Simpsons. I never fell into the habit of watching it but I still love it.

The Simpsons are so funny!

Homer's anger problem episode:

Homer: I don't have an anger problem at all!

Lisa: Yes, you do. Look, you're punching the cat right now.

Homer:*Is punching the cat* Oh my God you're right! I'm a rageaholic! I can't live with out rageahol!*Sobs*

A very funny episode.:)

The old Simpsons were awesome. Those episodes never get old. The new ones...yeah...I'm not going to go there.

The recent episodes are terrible, but the older ones are the best. I especially love the episodes 'Selma's Choice,' 'Cape Feare,' and 'Rosebud.'

BTW, I saw the fifth season collection available on DVD. :)

I find the new ones better than the old ones. The only thing that frustrates me is the age of the kids. I also hate Lisa.

Greatest show ever. Past it's prime, but this season has been better than some of the other more recent ones.

I know it is one of the best shows on TV the new episodes are still pretty good

Todd: Daddy are jealous of Mr. Simpson?

Flanders: Maybe just a tad.

Todd: I'm jealous of girls because they get to wear dresses!

>awkward silence<

Flanders: One problem at a time boy.

or one of my favorites

Ralph: I saw the lepruchaun he told me to burn things!

The Simpsons is indeed a great show, although I don't think it's as funny as it used to be. South Park has surpassed it, in my opinion.

The simpsons is the best, that simple. It has to be one of the funniest cartoons out there and how long have they been on and have not been cancelled? That right there says it enough that it's great *i actually don't know but i know it's been over 10 years*
As for south park....*remembers movie and laughs* I still think the simpsons is better

I'm one of those freaks that was raised a Simpson's fan. The last few seasons haven't been very good, but the most recent season is better than the last few. I haven't really been keeping up on the new episodes since it's on the same time as other shows I like to watch.

You can't go an hour in this house without someone quoting The Simpsons. Usually my boyfriend's dad. xD

It was the best show for about seven seasons. Now it sucks.

It was inevitable that a show like The Simpsons would start going downhill eventually. The new episodes aren't abysmal, but it was obvious that the high quality of programming wasn't going to be continuous. The more recent series are good for a chuckle now and again, but the writing will always be compared to the show in its' prime (Seasons 3-8 or so), which is a battle it is always going to lose.

If only FOX hadn't cancelled Futurama. That show would still be going strong had it been allowed to continue.

Awesome show. It was my favorite growing up.

I need to get the first few seasons on DVD if I have the money one day.

It's a classic. PLain and simple. I think the latest season is pretty good. The last few...while a little lackluster, weren't too shabby either.

I used to watch every episode every sunday. Now I only watch it if I remember to. It's still one of my favorite all time shows.

Or on Thursdays, in the old days. :D What day did it originally start on, though? Because no show is given Thursday nights right off the bat.

i love the simpsons!!!its the only show i can watch reruns of and never get bored. but the new ones aren't that bad, just different. last season sucked, i admit, but i lol'd a couple times this season. but no1 can ever forget the classics, like when homer finds herb. that scene with doctor hibberts obvious brother is so hilarious.

and the one where bart gives mr. burns his blood was so funny last nite

homer:*walks up 2 counter* "im mr. burns, and id like to make a withdrawal"

man:ok mr. burns, whats ur first name?

homer:*long pause*"....i...don't kno"

homer:*sitting outside*"greaaaat plan, bart."

ARGH! Messed up quotes!

Lon's should be:
"Hello, my name is Mr. Burns. I believe you have a letter for me."
"Okay Mr. Burns, what's your first name?"
"... I don't know."

That's from the episode where Bart gives blood I believe. They're at the post office because Bart mailed the nasty letter Homer sent Burns and they're trying to get it back.

And boris':
"Ms. Hoover, there's a dog in the vent."
"Ralph, do you remember when you said Snagglepuss was outside?"
"It was going to the bathroom."

xD I'm obsessive. It's the episode where Principal Skinner gets fired.

And one of my personal favorites, from Milhouse, about Santa's Little Helper:
"Remember when he ate all my goldfish and you told me I never had any goldfish. Well why did I have the bowl, Bart? <i>Why did I have the bowl?</i>"

I love quoting Simpsons :skull3:

For seasons 1 to 9, the Simpsons was an incredible show and was, at that time, one of the best things on television. However, the show became awful after season 9. The episodes after that are literally unwatchable and I feel uncomfortable watching them because they're just so unbelievably bad. The plug really needs to be pulled, it's hurting the show, seeing as how, at this rate, there will eventually be more bad episodes than good ones. The syndicated time slots used to be a refuge for those of that enjoyed the early Simpsons. However, the horrific new episodes are infecting these time slots to the point where every time I turn the show on I get an episode that makes me nauseous.

I've been watching the Simpsons since I was around 5, so I grew up with it. One of my favourite quotes has to be from the episode where they get snowed into the school and Principle Skinners sends out the hamster "Nibbles" to get help because he was in a ball bag. It went something like:

"Nibbles! You got help! Now chew through my ball sack!"
"... *scurries away*"

I also love the ones with Artie Zipp. And aren't the Tree House of Horror episodes great? The best has to be the one with Bart's evil twin.

They newer ones aren't that bad. Like the one where Bart finds Homer's Playdude magazines and makes a playboy mansion in his tree house is great.

"It's better for them to hear it from me now then from their parents when they're ready."

Bart's evil twin which turned out to be the good twin. Heh, who would've guessed ;)

My favorite Tree House Of Horrors involved the two Aliens kidnapping and replacing Clinton and Dole.

Crowd: "Well, I believe I'll vote for a third party!"
Alien: "Go ahead, throw your vote away!"

Shot of Ross Perot punching his campaign hat.

And who can forget:

Ralph: "Super Nintendo Chalmers!"

Also to note, Family Guy would have never come about had The Simpsons not paved the way. With Futurama over and The Simpsons declining, FG and South Park are now the two cartoons that give us the best insight and social commentary.

Take care all.

"Stuff about the middle seasons being the best ones etc."

Yeah, I agree, but I haven't seen very much of the current season, so I can't judge whether it is any better than the last few.

Oh, and :love::

Bar one or two episodes, most of the recent efforts are an embarrassment to watch. With Futurama now cancelled, The Simpsons will most likely continue on until even the die-hard fans lose interest. The ideas are gone, the jokes are gone. The horse decomposed long ago, but they're still flogging away at the bones.
