Does anyone else here have an optical mouse? I do and let me tell you they are more annoying that... a lot of stuff! I'll be playing FFXI and all the sudden my screen goes crazy as it changes views. I'll be trying to draw in paint, nice and slow, easy, almost done, BWWAAAAA! Sometimes it even jumps up to the upper right corner just as I click and close whatever I'm viewing. More often than that it jumps to the oppisite corner and opens my start menu. Optical mouses are Evil :radred:

While on a desktop computer with a solid base with a good mousepad, I prefer my mouseball-mouse. However, when on my laptop, I don't often have the luxury of such a setup, so an optical mouse is nice for good control on a strange surface like my leg.

Sure is. Sometimes I use it as a flashlight when my lightswitch is too far away.

The cursor jumping to the corner of the screen is the result of crappy mouse drivers, not the mouse being optical :p

My optical mouse works great, even being wireless.

I'm betting you have a Microsoft mouse. They tend to do what you describe.

I have a Logitech optical mouse and have never had a problem with it doing it's own thing.

I have this weird little mouse...the kind you get on laptops, where you use your finger to move around.
I HATE ITTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :mad2: It jumps around, it moves, it doesn't click where I want it to, and it has some sort of THING going on with my screen's right-hand corner.

I'm sorry, little mouse. *patpats*

That's called a trackpoint (or one of it's names anyway). If the cursor jumps around with that thing, then again, either it's drivers, or more likely it's your own hand brushing/hitting an over-sensitive touchpad below the keyboard :p

Maybe, but that attraction to the right-hand corner??? Scary...and I stand a mile away from it.

Probably broken then. My dad's old laptop does that occasionally, and it gets annoying :monster:

I find them very good, in fact. My one did what yours does until I got a better mouse mat. Try that if you have a cheap one

I have an optical mouse, it's a ton better than the one with little balls cos' the balls gather lint and then it's like o___<

Oh man, I shudder at the thought of going back to a regular mouse. I got an optical mouse last christmas and it is great. And it's a microsoft mouse too. I've had absolutely no problems with it.

I've had a optical mouse for 5+ years id say.

How can anyone like a track ball or a standard ball mouse better?

these read so much better, so much smoother, look so much cooler, and proform all around 10x better.

Usually if my old optical mouse acted wierd, it usually just meant that there was something under the sensor (like random fuzz or a hair.) But now I have the new Logitech wireless laser mouse...now that's a mouse.

Optical is awesome. Ball is ancient technology.
