I heard good things about them, so I picked up their CD yesterday. It's pretty good, though most of the songs sound alike (at least on this CD, Comalies.) I'm surprised they're an Italian band.

Cristina, the lead singer, has a pretty nice voice, but I don't like when they use that guy to sing along, because his voice is sort of irritating.

What do you think?

I have Comalies and Unleashed Memories, lent (nicked) off my sister. They have a few good tracks but they're nothing special.

You're lucky you have a sibling that actually listens to music, let alone good music. I'll never be able to steal/borrow CDs from my brother.

For every one of hers I get she gets about five of mine, but if I remember correctly Unleashed Memories had a more acoustic/alternative feel to it rather than the Nu-Metalish Comalies, so if you're into that sort of thing UM may be more up your alley.

I really do like Lacuna Coil but I have to agree that some of their songs do have the same sound to it.

The Ghost Hunter and the Woman . . . or The Woman and the Ghost Hunter . . . I can't remember what it's called but I really do like that song. Heaven's a Lie is another favorite but I don't know which CD they are off of. I just download them from Kazaa.

The Tribal something one is really cool too. Myles swings his swords to that one. :)

It's called The Ghost Woman and the Hunter and coincidently, I'm listening to that right now! xD That's from Comalies.

I'll have to check Unleashed Memories. I like how Comalies sounds, like the guitars and the violins. It's a bit Evanescence-y, except missing the pianos and the awesome choir and occasional latin chants.

Lacuna Coil's only popular now because Evanescence ripped them off.

*sigh* How did I know someone would say that. It's ridiculous.

1. Evanescence started making EPs at the same time as Lacuna Coil. 1998.
2. Lacuna Coil is from Italy. Evanescence is from Arkansas.
3. Evanescence doesn't sound like Lacuna Coil. I have two Evanescence CDs (Origin and Fallen) and I have two Lacuna Coil CDs (Comalies and Unleashed Memories) and they don't sound alike. The ONLY things they have in common is the female singer with the black hair and the ethereal-ish sounds, but even THAT is different because Evanescence uses choirs and piano and violins, while LC is more inclined to use electronics.

Evanescence did not rip-off Lacuna Coil.

1. Lacuna Coil were popular before Evanescence popped up.
2. I have no reason why since they're not that good (Lacuna Coil or Evanescence)
3. Lacuna Coil's first two albums were far better than Comalies, but still, weren't that great.

Franklly, they disappointed me; they've got an awesome singer, but can't write songs for . It's not just their lyrics, which I could forgive considering that Italian is their native tongues, but their music is unimaginitive as well. Their guitars don't sing to me, they're dead. And that's why I don't like Lacuna Coil all that much. Their music has no real soul to it, soemthing that is required to make any music really stand out from all the dross.

I saw a few Lacuna Coil albums in K-Mart the other day. In A Reverie and Half Life were on sale for $7 each, but I didn't feel like picking them up. I should though, my iPod needs to have 2 post-blone-black-haired lead singers. :-)

Anyways, I've heard a couple of their songs, none of them really stand out like some of Evanescence's songs. Maybe I just need to listen to them more, since a lot of times I tend to find some gems after listening to them for a while (like Creed's Hide). A lot of their songs sound the same, probably due to those guitars that kind of drown out Christina Scabbia's voice. CS's voice isn't that great IMO, but female's often have a higher standard when it comes to singing...so for the sake of being in a rock band, her voice was perfect. For R&B, her voice would not cut it.

BTW, anyone who thinks Evanescence ripped off Lacuna Coil hasn't done their homework. Evanescence and Lacuna Coil were both doing EPs in 1997. If anything, Lacuna Coil sounds more like a Christian Rock Band than Evanescence. I think it's actually nice that Andrea "co-vocals" with Christina in some of the songs...but LC doesn't really have that lasting appeal to them. Evanescence has some lasting appeal, but I don't think they'll match the success of 10,000 Maniacs (who also had a female lead singer for the rock band). However 10kM were more about "hippie" stuff like politics than goth or life...so maybe that's a poor comparison, but female lead singers of bands generally don't have nearly as much success as male lead singer-based bands. The effect of Natalie Merchant leaving 10,000 Maniacs was that 10kM was never popular again...but NM had a decent solo careers(putting up hits on the Billboards). I don't think Gwen Stefani will survive without No Doubt, though ND was more like rock/pop, GS is mostly pop. Neither Amy Lee, Christina Scabbia, or Gwen Stefani really have that lyrical talent that will put them in success over the long haul like Natalie Merchant.

I don't think anyone in the US would've heard of them if it wasn't for RE:A. Despite RE:A being a better(still bad) movie than DD, it didn't really boost LC into that "modern" band status. But I guess it hurts that they're a foreign band rather than a domestic one.

With that also being said, I might go back to K-Mart and pick up a copy of their albums. I can recover that in like an half an hour of work anyways. :-D
