I know that SeeD are specialists in combat, but what exactly does SeeD stand for? What exactly is it? They never directly told you and I'm not that good and putting clues together. Was it because Edea knew she was going to become sorceress and wanted someone to stop her? I don't care if its the exact answer or not. Just give me your opinion. ^__^

Yes she created SeeDs to fight the sorceresses, altough she never sexpected her to become a bad one (possessed by Ultimecia)... so...

Time has the role in it.
If only there were no time compression, Ultimecia never passed the power to Edea, Squall never mentioned about SeeD and Garden to her.... and as a result Edea would never establish the Garden then no FF 8 :D :D :D
I think Edea knows Ultimecia will strike again somehow when future comes and Squall turns 17. So she plans to build Garden and SeeD with purpose to kill the evil sorceress in the end just like Squall said in the past..... Perhaps she is not aware that someday she will be the target because Ultimecia possesses her soul.

Basically its a time loop/paradox thing:
1. Edea creates Garden and SeeD to defend the planet from sorceresses.
2. Squall becomes a SeeD.
3. Squall defends planet from evil sorceresses.
4. Squall goes back in time and meets Edea when she was still Matron of the orphanage he was at (about 12 years in the past, since Squall seemed about 5 in the past)
5. Squall tells Edea all about Garden and SeeD, and gives her the idea to create it.
6. Edea creates Garden and SeeD.
As for what it stands for, SeeDs are pretty much "flowers" so to speak. Although I personally prefer to pronounce it "CD" it has been said that translators capitalized the D arbitraily, and that the whole theme of "Gardens" filled with "seeds" is stated throughout the game, the flower field at Edea's house being a metaphor for her "garden" etc.

Ultimecia wasn't the first sorceress edea got power from. She said there was another one when she was five years old.
but yeah, like shivablizzard said, squall went back and gave matron the idea with which to protect the orphans she cared for so much.

I don't understand if Squall gave the idea that's because Edea had already that idea... right?

Like Divinity said, how could she recreate the idea if the idea was already made and Squall went back to the future to tell her about it?

back to the future? it is not that.
Squall was thrown back to the past time. In the past Edea still doesn't know the idea about Garden + SeeD. If Squall didnt give her the idea, Edea wouldnt know the idea and Garden would never exist in the present time, and maybe situation at the present time will be changed.

Exactly. It's a temporal paradox, in which the effect happened before the cause. (the effect being Garden's creation, and the cause being Squall going back in time). That's what makes any story dealing with time travel so confusing; there's the whole matter of if Squall hadn't grown up yet to travel back and give Edea the idea, how could Garden exist? But then, the cause (Squall telling Edea) happened first regardless of how old Squall is now to witness the effect (the creation of Garden and his attendance).
To make a long story short:
1. Edea DID NOT come up with the idea for Garden. Her only idea for it came from Squall.
2. Since this event happened in the past, that's why Gardens exist regardless of whether Squall has traveled back yet.
3. Since the whole story is about Fate it makes sense; Ulty's fate is to repeat this cycle over and over, Seifer's fate is to follow her, Rinoa's fate is to become the next sorceress, and Squall's fate is to estab lish Garden to protect the world from sorceresses by giving Edea the idea in the past. :)

she might have thought of it the first time, but since squall went and changed the past, she no longer has:) of course that's dependant on one way of thinking of time, but it makes sense to me.
The important part is that the gardens exist:) otherwise the game wouldn't be as fun ;_;

Thankyou for clarifying that - it was always quite vague to me  ....

But the mystery still remains: why is the D capital in SeeD? It's like it's an acronym..

Well, in japanese, the word "seed" is pronounced almost exactly the same way as the name "Cid", so chances are they kept the word in english so as to avoid confusion. The capital D was then added only to make it appear to not just be a translation thing.
This was then mistakingly brought over in the translations to europe.
Just a rumour though, I guess.

Then explain "KluYa," or the fact that his Japanese name is just "Fusuya" with no irregularity at all.

Square mades the loop story and thought "If they are clever enough they will see that this is impossible so that parts of the story were lies.We think this fact is enough for them to see that the story telled by Edea is a lie.So either Edea is bad or is still possessed."

That's mighty three-dimentional thinking right there.

Word - especially since given the theoretical physics of time travel make it quite possible and plausible. Confusing to think about, but certainly possible nonetheless. Plus, Edea can't be lying - she didn't tell the story. Squall witnessed it for himself.

I know.I think I learned that in Quantum Electrodynamics.Ultimecia´s appearance in Edea´s time was an hologram. It was Junction Machine Ellone (stoled by Edea) that performs the headmixing false time compression. The machine performs false memories. If you don´t believe me then you believe that Cloud was a Top Ranking SOLDIER.But in the north crater Sephiroth shows that it was a false memory created through Cloud´s ambition. He was a regular SOLDIER.

All weong but for Edea to have the idea of SeeDs she needed Squall right and Squall was alreday a SeeD, so Edea alreday had the idea... Is it so complicated?????
Shoden
01-07-2005, 05:12 PM
its confusing as the Idea was supposibly Edeas imagination but after the Squall part it sall seems as if it has no start so Ultimecia is never truely dead unless Squall adds more to what he says to matron
