Is the enemy-into-item ability worth using regularly? Are there any particular enemies that transform into rare items I can't get anywhere else?

We used to have a great thread on this but it got pruned. Some one actually posted what good items can be "morphed" and what the chances are, along with what else the enemies can be morphed into. I don't remember who it was, but maybe we'll be lucky enough to have them post it again.

Everytime I tried using it, I got something useless, like a Tonic. I'd always get it because I wanted as many Espers as possible.

If for some reason that doesn't work, just go to gamefaqs.com, there's a FFVI section with an item FAQ, it tells which items can be morphed from which enemies.

Thanks very much, I found it. For future reference, gamefaqs.com don't like people linking directly to FAQs which is why the link you provided didn't work.

It won't work, gamefaqs doesn't like remote linking.

ladies who smoke turn into ribbons and samurais turn into genji gauntlets. (You'll have to do it multiple times because often, it seems to be more often than not, they turn into worthless items instead.

Those are the only 2 that I remember thinking were very important.

Wait, I also remember spending a tremendous amount of time using it on Cactrots. But I don't know why.

I know that you can steal a tiger mask from some common dog monster and get a really cool helmet armor type early in the game.

You can steal a Bandana fron the kung-fu looking guys in Mt. Kolts.
Also, if you fight the Telstar in the Imperial Camp you win a Green Beret. Then when you are in the Veldt later with Cyan and Gau you can fight the Telstars multiple times to get many Green Berets.

Doomgaze, thanks for that link. It's much more concise than the FAQs on gamefaqs.com. To everyone else who has helped, my thanks to you also.

I don't know about you, but it's a hell of a lot easier to learn Ultima from Ragnarok's magicite than it is to fight countless battles to break the curse of the Cursed Shield. Once the curse is broken, it becomes the Paladin Shield, and can teach you the same spell.

Easyiness shmeasinesss.

The point of accessing everything in the game is almodt defined by Celes Swinging the Ragnarok, Blocking with the Paladin Shield and casting Ultima when things get too tricky.

Just a simple question about Ragnarok:
Do you prefer sword or Esper?

Who the heck knows. But I chose the esper the first time around.

Because of the paladin shield, and if you like fighting a lot, it can be considered to be far more practical to choose the sword.

EDIT: At high levels, my characters hardly need a sword to dish out damage, except for the character with Gengi Glove + Offering. Really.

I usually get the Esper for Ultima and completion issues.

I prefer the sword. I don't mind uncursing the Cursed Shield, because the Paladin Shield is fantastic on its own terms, and nothing the Esper unlocks is exciting enough to me to negate the fact that getting the Esper means you don't get the Illumina.

If you're really worried about completion, I would reccomend the sword, as there are no items which can be acquired solely thorough morphing. Ultima, as has been pointed out, can be learned from the Paladin Shield, and the Ragnarok sword can be traded at the Coliseum for the Illumina. Illumina is probably the best weapon in the entire series, and can only be acquired in this way.

Well, alright, the Illumina can also be stolen, but it occurs in the fight right before Kefka, so you can neither equip nor keep it.

Actually I'm pretty sure you can equip weapons and armor from the item selection in battle.

Doomgaze

You can only change the arm equipment mid-battle.

This is a very interesting algorithm FAQ (http://www.rpglegion.com/ff6/ff6alg.txt) for FF6 which you may find useful for using the Ragnarok Esper. Just skip ahead to the Ragnarok section.

Although not incredibly useful, it's really interesting...

I think you can "only" steal the Ragnarok sword and another Atma Weapon from the last two enemies before Kefka. So you can only use them in the final battle as they don't appear in your inventory unless you go up.

I remember stealing a Ragnorok from the pre-kefka battles and trying my hardest to escape from the battle... haha
