I know we have a "songs that helped or touched you" thread but i was wondering what part of the songs touched you. I know that in most cases the whole song helps the most but i was just wondering.

mine would be from perfect circles 'three libra's'

"And i threw you the obvious,
just to see what i could behind the
eyes of a fallen angel
eyes of a tragedy, oh well.
apparently nothing,
Apparently nothing at all."

Peace out and

One may be 3 Door's Down ~Away From The Sun~

~Now again I find myself so far down away from the sun
That shines into the darkest place I'm so far down away from the sun
That shines to ligth the way for me to fund my way back into the arms
Who care about the ones like me I'm so far down away from the sun~

Another would be Crossfade ~Cold~

~I never really wanted you to see the screwed up side of me that I keep
Locked inside of me so deep
It always seems to get to me
I never really wanted you to go so many things you should have known
I guess for me there's just no hope I never meant to be so cold~

*there are others that touched me in different ways, but meh*

To be honest, lyrics never do me any good until I hear the song first.

Even after hearing the song, the lyrics are only good for me to follow along. I must hear the song before reading the lyrics.

...but some parts of the song do touch us more than others, and for a lot of people, it's the lyrics--the message. Let me try to think here about my songs mentioned in the "songs that touched you" thread.

Invincible (Static-X)
"All my life I was in the cold / Now I find I feel nothing more"

"Now I'm not so invincible"

"And we sneak a call / And we're like theives / I love the times like these"

(Various pieces of the song eerily similar to my life, especially the last couple years.)

Bodies (Drowning Pool) ...pretty much the whole thing.

Schism / Sober (Tool) ...some lines stand out, but really the whole thing, plus the music itself.

Sword Of Doubt (Nobuo Uematsu) ...has no lyrics, so obviously the music.

I don't think it really "touched" me or anything, but these words: "And in the dark we will take off our clothes, and they'll be placing fingers through the notches in your spine" are brilliant and force me to feel some sort of foreign emotion that I don't fully understand every single time I hear them. Not only that but the way it sounds is incredible.

"i hurt myself today
to see if i still feel
i focus on the pain
the only thing thats real
the needle tears a hole
the old famiular sting
tried to kill it all away
but i remember everything

what have i become?
my sweetest friend
everyone i know
goes away in the end

you could have it all
my empire of dirt
i will let you down
i will make you hurt

i wear this crown of S**t
upon my liars chair
full of broken thoughts
i could not repair
beneath the stains of time the feelings disapeered
you are someone else
i am still right her

what have i become?
my sweetest friend
everyone i know
goes away in the end

you could have it all
my empire of dirt
i will let you down
i will make you hurt

if i could start again
a million miles away
i would keep myself
i would find a way"

sorry i wrote the whole thing!all the lyrics mean something! the songs about (a bit) drugs which i DONT relate to but i like to sing this song when i'm sad or very angry
oh by the way its NIN!! :D i love them!

...Blind Guardian-The Bards Song...

Now you all know
The bards and their songs
When hours have gone by
I'll close my eyes
In a world far away
We may meet again
But now hear my song
About the dawn of the night
Let's sing the bards' song

Tomorrow will take us away
Far from home
No one will ever know our names
But the bards' songs will remain
Tomorrow will take it away
The fear of today
It will be gone
Due to our magic songs

There's only one song
Left in my mind
Tales of a brave man
Who lived far from here
Now the bard songs are over
And it's time to leave
No one should ask you for the name
Of the one
Who tells the story

Tomorrow will take us away
Far from home
No one will ever know our names
But the bards' songs will remain
Tomorrow all will be known
And you're not alone
So don't be afraid
In the dark and cold
'Cause the bards' songs will remain
They all will remain

In my thoughts and in my dreams
They're always in my mind
These songs of hobbits, dwarves and men
And elves
Come close your eyes
You can see them too

Crestfallen

Who am I to need you when I'm down
Where are you when I need you around
Your life is not your own

And all I ask you
Is for another chance
Another way around you
To live by circumstance, once again

Who am I to need you now
To ask you why to tell you no
To deserve your love and sympathy
You were never meant to belong to me

And you may go, but I know you won't leave
Too many years built into memories
Your life is not your own

Who am I to need you now
To ask you why to tell you no
To deserve your love and sympathy
You were never meant to belong to me

Who am I to you?
Along the way
I lost my faith

And as you were, you'll be again
To mold like clay, to break like dirt
To tear me uo in your sympathy
You were never meant to belong to me
You were never meant to belong to me
You were never meant to belong to me

Who am I?

THE KILLERS LYRICS

"Smile Like You Mean It"

Save some face, you know you've only got one
Change your ways while you're young
Boy, one day you'll be a man
Oh girl, he'll help you understand
Smile like you mean it
Smile like you mean it

Looking back at sunsets on the Eastside
We lost track of the time
Dreams aren't what they used to be
Some things slide by so carelessly

Smile like you mean it
Smile like you mean it

And someone is calling my name
From the back of the restaurant
And someone is playing a game
In the house that I grew up in
And someone will drive her around
Down the same streets that I did
On the same streets that I did

Smile like you mean it
Smile like you mean it
Smile like you mean it
Smile like you mean it

Oh no, oh no no no
Oh no, oh no no no

i've a suggestion to keep you all occupied,
Learn to swim, learn to swim."

Some say the end is near,
Some say we'll see armeggedon soon.
Certainly hope we do,
Sure could use a vacation from this,
bull sh*t, free range,
circus, side show of....."

I like that song. Just remembered another one I like: Did My Time (Korn):

"I am the one who chose my path / I am the one who couldn't last / I feel the life pulled from me / I feel the anger changing me"

And pretty much all of Another Brick In The Wall (the Korn remake).

A Cautionary Song

there's a place your mother goes when everybody else is soundly sleeping
through the lights of beacon street
and if you listen you can hear her weeping, she's weeping,
cause the gentlemen are calling and the snow is softly falling on her petticoat
and she's standing in the harbor and she's waiting for the sailors in the jolly boat
see how they approach

with dirty hands and trousers torn they grapple 'til she's safe within their keeping
a gag is placed between her lips to keep her sorry tongue from any speaking, or screaming
and they row her out to packets where the sailor's sorry racket calls for maidenhand
and she's scarce above the gunwales when her clothes fall to a bundle and she's laid in bed on the upper deck

and so she goes from ship to ship, her ankles clasped, her arms so rudely pinioned
'til at last she's satisfied the lot of the marina's teeming minions and their opinions

and they tell her not to say a thing to cousin, kindred, kith or kin or she'll end up dead
and they throw her dirty dollars and return her to the harbor where she goes to bed
and this is how your fed

so be kind to your mother
though she may seem an awful bother
and the next time she tries to feed you collard greens
remember what she does when you're asleep

Blind Guardian-Bright Eyes

I've been waiting
For signs of god
Create - enslave - behaved -
everything is out of control

Leave me alone
Isolation bears hope
There's something else waiting
A promised destiny
Freezing me
I feel restless and low
These days full of sadness
How joyfully changed
Into fear
My freakshow will start tonight
Don't miss the right time

Bright eyes
Blinded by fear of life
No Merlin is by my side

Everything is out of control
Everything is out of control
In my future plans
Everything is out of control
Noone's left to hurt
Everything is out of control
Sorrow's gone away

Broken memories
Walking upstairs
Step by step
I see the whole world burning
The poet dies in Newerland
How it burns

Hey, mother stubborn
I really hate you
If you say yes I will say no
Ashes to ashes
But dust won't be dust
If you go there
I will go back

Bright eyes
Blinded by fear of life
Betrayed by sunrise
Bright eyes
Blinded by fear of life
No Merlin is by my side

Hey, father stubborn
You're ying
And I'm young
I feel alone
Who really cares
Born into ashes
To lose all the games
With a smiling face

Bright eyes
Blinded by fear of life
And the dark dragons rise
Bright eyes
Blinded by fear of life
No Merlin is by my side

So I sit still in my room, today
Winter's here
In summer season
Shall I say
I was wrong
If I'm right
Farewell to my last hope

"My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard,
And their like
It's better than yours,
Damn right it's better than yours,
I can teach you,
But I have to charge

I know you want it,
The thing that makes me,
What the guys go crazy for.
They lose their minds,
The way I wind,
I think its time

La la-la la la,
Warm it up.
Lala-lalala,
The boys are waiting

My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard,
And their like
It's better than yours,
Damn right it's better than yours,
I can teach you,
But I have to charge

I can see youre on it,
You want me to teach thee
Techniques that freaks these boys,
It can't be bought,
Just know, thieves get caught,
Watch if your smart,

La la-la la la,
Warm it up,
La la-la la la,
The boys are waiting,

My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard,
And their like
It's better than yours,
Damn right it's better than yours,
I can teach you,
But I have to charge

Oh, once you get involved,
Everyone will look this way-so,
You must maintain your charm,
Same time maintain your halo,
Just get the perfect blend,
Plus what you have within,
Then next his eyes are squint,
Then he's picked up your scent,

Lala-lalala,
Warm it up,
Lala-lalala,
The boys are waiting,

My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard,
And their like
It's better than yours,
Damn right it's better than yours,
I can teach you,
But I have to charge"

Put down that chain saw and listen to me.
It's time for us to join in the fight.
It's time to let your babies grow up to be cowboys.
It's time to let the bedbugs bite.
You better put all your eggs in one basket.
You better count your chickens before they hatch.
You better sell some wine before its time.
You better find yourself an itch to scratch.

You better squeeze all the Charmin you can,
When Mr. Whipple's not around.
Stick your head in the microwave, and get yourself a tan.
Talk with your mouth full.
Bite the hand that feeds you.
Bite off more than you can chew.
What can you do?
Dare to be stupid.

Take some wooden nickels.
Look for Mr. Goodbar.
Get your mojo working now.
I'll show you how.
You can dare to be stupid.

You can turn the other cheek.
You can just give up the ship.
You can eat a bunch of sushi, then forget to leave a tip.
Dare to be stupid.

Come on and dare to be stupid.
It's so easy to do.
We're all waiting for you.
Let's go!

It's time to make a mountain out of a molehill.
So can I have a volunteer?
There's no more time for crying over spilled milk.
Now it's time for crying in your beer.
Settle down, raise a family, join the P.T.A.
Buy some sensible shoes and a Chevrolet.
Then party till you're broke, and they drag you away.
It's okay... you can dare to be stupid.

It's like spitting on a fish.
It's like barking up a tree.
It's like I said, you gotta buy one if you wanna get one free.
Dare to be stupid.

Yes. Why don't you dare to be stupid.
It's so easy, so easy to do.
We're all waiting for you.
Burn your candle at both ends.
Look a gift horse in the mouth.
Mashed potatoes can be your friends.

You can be a coffee achiever.
You can sit around the house
And watch "Leave It To Beaver."
The future's up to you.
So what you gonna do?
Dare to be stupid.
Dare to be stupid.

What did I say?
(Dare to be stupid.)
Tell me, what did I say?
(Dare to be stupid.)
It's all right.
(Dare to be stupid.)
We can be stupid all night.
(Dare to be stupid.)
Come on, join the crowd.
(Dare to be stupid.)
Shout it out loud.
(Dare to be stupid.)
I can't hear you.
(Dare to be stupid.)
Okay, I can hear you now.
(Dare to be stupid.)

This song is a favorite of mine when I've just been again scorned by the so-called fairer sex. It's in old French, from a late 13th-century mysogynist poet. It amuses me.

In French:

Tant y a feme scet bon taire!
Tant y a feme scet bon taire!

Femme est dehors religiouse,
Dedanz poignaunt e venimose;

A soy sera d'aucun complainte,
Ir se fait moult juste et moult sainte.

Femme engendre bataille e guere,
Exile gent de gaste tere;

Femme ard chausteus e prent citez
Enfundre tours e fermetez

Ore vous ai dit de lur vies,
Fuoums de lur cumpaignies!

Tant y a feme scet bon taire!

Ore vous ai dit de lur vies,
Fuoums de lur cumpaignies!

and in English...

When it comes to women, men, hold your tongue!
When it comes to women, men, hold your tongue!

On the outside, she's religious,
On the inside, keen and venemous;

She will not tolerate complaint,
She's lady justice and a saint.

Woman fosters strife and wars,
And exiles men from ruined shores;

Castles she burns, cities defeats
Destroys the towers and the keeps.

Now that I've told you of womankind,
Let's flee and leave them far behind!

When it comes to women, men, hold your tongue!

Now that I've told you of womankind,
Let's flee and leave them far behind!

I believe the work is titled The Vices of Women, but as it is set to music, it is titled as Jailers. The CD is called Voices of Light and is the story of Joan of Arc set to music. I think the original author of that may have been gay.

Let's talk this over
It's not like we're dead
Was it something I did?
Was it something You said?
Don't leave me hanging
In a city so dead
Caught up so high
On such a breakable thread

You were all the things I thought of you
And I thought we could be

CHORUS
You were everything, everything that I wanted
We were meant to be, supposed to be, but we lost it
And all the memories, so close to me, just fade away
All this time you were pretending
So much for my happy ending
oh oh, oh oh, oh oh...

It's nice to know you were there
Thanks for asking like you cared
And making me feel like I was the only one
It's nice to know we had it all

what if the sun refused to shine?
what if the clouds refused to rain?
what if the wind refused to blow?
what if the seas refused to wave?
what if the wrold refused to turn?
what if the stars would hesitate?

what if, what is isn't true?
what are you going to do?
what if, what is isn't you?
does that mean you've got to lose?
digging for the feel of something new

what if the silence let you dream?
what if the air could let you breathe?
what if the words would bring you here?
what if this sound could bring you peace?

what if, what is isn't true?
what are you going to do?
digging for the feel of something new
what if, what is isn't you?
does that mean you've got to lose?

it came from your thoughts, your dreams and visions
ripped up from your weeks and indecisions

what if the sun refused to shine?
what if the clouds refused to rain?
what if the wrold refused to turn?
what if the clocks would hesitate?

what if, what is isn't true?
what are you going to do?
what if, what is isn't you?
does that mean you've got to lose?
digging for the feel of something new

does that mean you've got to choose?
the feel of something new
does that mean you've got to lose?
the thoughts you cannot lose
what are you gonna do?

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

No one knows what it's like
To be hated
To be fated
To telling only lies

But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

No one knows what it's like
To feel these feelings
Like I do
And I blame you

No one bites back as hard
On their anger
None of my pain and woe
Can show through

But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be
have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

No one knows what it's like
To be mistreated
To be defeated
behind blue eyes

and no one knows how to say that theyre sorry
and dont worry
i'm not telling lies

but my dreams
they arent as empty
as my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely
my love is vengence
that's never free

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
