Gilgamesh is a very cool side villain in FFV, and he's a lot better (and somewhat more reliable) GF than Odin in FFVIII. Odin riding with his horse and using Zantetsuken is still always a sight, especially in that one FMV in FFIX. Yojimbo was alright, and Zanmato is neat, but otherwise I don't think he's as great as Odin or Gilgamesh.

to me, yojimbo is cooler, especially the way he enters the battle... sweet samurai-like entrance.. oh wait oh was he really is a samurai? :p

I voted for Odin and Yojimbo. Yojimbo is cool when you get his FV to the max, but that uses a lot of gil and time. Kogoro is kind of cool, but Daigoro in batle means Yojimbo doesn't like you much. Sleipner (Odin's six-legged horse) is the best though, and Zantetsuken/Steel Bladed Sword/Gunge Lance are guaranteed, whereas Zanmato isn't. Gilgamesh would be better if I knew more about him, but unfortunately the only time I have encountered him is in FFVIII where his attacks were pointless (mainly Excalipoor). Who wants an attack that deals 1 damage to all enemies?

Gilgamesh was awesome, but he wasn't really a fighter. He was crying for mercy as he got warped to the cleft of dimension. Never even laid a hand on Ex-Death for it.

Odin is real. He's the one who would come out on top here.
Yojimbo doesn't really cut it for being as hip as either of them.

Perhaps they should have Thor as a thunder summon on an upcoming FF

Odin because he saved me and I yelled "NOOOOO OOOOODDIIIIIIN!!!!!!!!" when siefer killed him
and Gilgamesh because he's Odin and he saves me and knows better than to use Excalipoor

Square likes to cut out the number of legs Odin's horse has. It's *eight* people, c'mon. For some reason I only remember one Odin whose horse has the right number of legs. And none of them have Thought and Memory. (can't spell in norse, sorry) Or his wolves. Geeze. It's always about the spear that can kill anything.

So Yojimbo:D Because I mean, how awesome is his summon sequence? Very.

glad to see some agree with the great YoJimBo. Im not into samuria's at all, but he is a great summon. I didnt pay him much but he cut straight through sin and most of the end bosses not to mention darksummons, plus you have the added back story of him once being a mortal who weilded a sword. Imagine the fanfics you could get out of that. Then you get EVIL Yojimbo and the crap really hits the fan.

true, but the Odin in FF9 sucked. he doesn't always kill everyone on the field when i summoned him. he messed up more than he succeeded. on the other hand, there's no predicting what attack Yojimbo will use when you pay him, so that sucks. i still think Yojimbo is stronger 'cuz in FFX, you can actually make all his attacks exceed 9,999 dmg if you get one of the legendary weapons.

Alexander

true, but the Odin in FF9 sucked.

No, he SURE didn't. With Odin's Sword ability he more than likely does more damage than Bahamut. If Odin DOESN'T kill the enemies first. ^^

. . .

Of course, you're right.

It's not like two very different cultures a thousand years ago came up with two very different legends-- one the father of all gods and the other master swordsmen.

Of course not. They must be exactly the same thing.

While I like Odin much more, I voted for Yojimbo solely because Zanamoto can defeat bosses, whereas Odin's attack cannot.

Odin, because our gods own.

Gunblades
01-28-2005, 03:37 PM
of course Odin and the other gods used in FF very rarely resemble their real world incarnations, odin is perhaps one of the closest.

Yojimbo is the champ. I love that guy, saved me a hundred times!
Odin is also great but after the fight with seifer he's kinda useless so that's why I wote for Yojimbo!

i'm counting on Yojimbo to return in the future :) . some may say Odin's stronger, but i still think Yojimbo rocks :D . don't forget, aeons can be taught magic spells, abilities, plus their attacks can exceed 4-digit dmg with the required items needed ;) . besides, better luck with FFX magic than FFVIII.

well Odin was so powerfull his damage couldnt be calculated therefore an instant kill

well Odin was so powerfull his damage couldnt be calculated therefore an instant kill

Yojimbo's Zanmato also means instant death :D . it's the equivalent of Zantetsuken. btw, i was talking about the FF8 Odin. given the chance that i could summon Yojimbo, i'd do worse than what Seifer did to him :chop: .

Shoden
01-29-2005, 12:26 AM
Yojimbo is just a failed attempt to recreate Gilgamesh and Odin Yojimbo hardly uses Zanmato and when Odin attacks it looks like hes doing it with ease

Yuffie514
01-29-2005, 12:55 AM
err...i don't see how Yojimbo is a failed attempt to recreate Gilgamesh  . Gilgamesh is done for  . his Excalipoor sucks and according to the poll results, he did poorly himself :p . it's true that Odin makes it look easy when he uses Zantetsuken :) , but Yojimbo executes all foes with skill when he uses Zanmato :fpenerg: .

I didn't think you could teach Yoji any new spells. He wouldn't use them anyways.

Shoden, you'd be surprised how often Zanmoto comes up:) Once it gets on a roll, then it's on a ROLL

And Odin doesn't always hit for instakills either. Sometimes he'll pop up and smack the enemy and leave. normal calculatable damage.

Go figure.

(whereas with yoji, you get to the point where you EXPECT him to do 99999 damage to everything on the field)

Yuffie514
01-29-2005, 07:41 AM
eh, i stick by Yojimbo's side no matter how cool Odin may be  . Odin's a great guy too , but i just like Yojimbo better :) . no further comment.

Gunblades

My Yojimbo was a instant death madman, it's not normal for him to do anything other and i didnt pump him full of cash. And yep, odin doesnt always leave a finishing blow, and the scene were Seifer defeated him, that was cheap.

Zantetsuken was making stuff dead long before Zanmato, and to get Yojimbo to do Zanmato is 'spensive. In fact, just GETTING Yojimbo is 'spensive. Odin's Zantestuken is free (gil-wise), and he still has Gungir Spear to fall back on, which is also free and won't decrease his likelihood of doing Zantetsuken any. Gilgamesh can and will do Excalipoor. I'm guessing though that in a fight, Odin and Yojimbo would probably just kill each other at the same moment, then the dog would be very, very sad. :(

Gunblades
01-31-2005, 06:28 PM
whats a few gil between freinds, besides if you answear correctly you get Yojimbo at a discount, and as ai mentioned before, my Yojimbo was happy to instantly kill any foe without much cost. He's a ronin, he's meant to be payed.

Rubedo: I'll just vote Odin. I've seen him too much not too.

chaos: Yojimbo is out of this- his Zamnato is useful, but I never really preferred him.

Trowa: It is tempting to go with Gilgamesh though, but I haven't completed FFV yet, so, this goes to Odin.

Odin.
Instant death attacks should work like instant death attacks... in other words, not working on bosses. And 5-digit damage is just plain ridiculous... why isn't 4 digits enough? Why is it that all the new games make it so you'll most likely get into the upper limits of the thousands by the end of the game?? In ALL of the old games, you know you're in trouble when you see a boss do 2000 damage. Heck, in FF1 seeing a 200 was a lot. Seeing a hit for 7000+, even from some really amazing special attack or one of the final bosses of the game, was a "HOLY CRAP! HOW much damage!?!?" moment. Especially the first time you get there. But now, you can do 99999 with a summon, just from paying them a ton of money.

Of course, Gilgamesh is OK also (and one that's been both a bad guy AND a good guy.. and a neither-one-really guy... all in the same game! and in others also, heh). I liked FF5... and Gilgamesh also. Though I never did finish that one... ::needs to find the ROM again sometime::

Also one of the big problems I have with the newer FF's... from what I've read of them, anyway (I might like the rest of the game enough to ignore this if I actually played one, but with out a PS/PS2 that would be hard) you should never be able to kill the final boss as quickly as you can in some of these with the right items/attacks/spells/tricks/whatever. A final boss should at least take multiple turns, with at least SOME chance of the thing killing someone.
