Discussion!!
Is Ellone in 'LOVE' with Laguna as girl to man or niece to uncle?
Cause I get a feeling it is more to that.
And what about Laguna to Ellone? As niece? Cause how come an uncle could love a niece so much that bother to go to Esthar to save her but didn't bother to return to Raine to see his baby boy? or have his baby boy around?
If a man go all over the world to save his soulmate or beloved one, it make sense. But for a niece?
(Btw, still can't pass disc 2 so I just know the story roughly from walkthrough)

Ugh. No.
Since Ellone's parents died when she was so young, Raine was pretty much her mother and Laguna was her father. They both cared for her as such, and in return, Ellone treated them as if they were her parents. She called them "Raine" and "Uncle Laguna" out of respect for her real parents who were killed trying to protect her.
That said, people would move heaven and earth for their children - and Laguna does so easily for Ellone. If somebody kidnapped your 5 year old daughter, wouldn't you try to save her?
As for Ellone, she's every much a "daddy's girl" in regards to Laguna, but that doesn't imply anything sexual. Since Squall doesn't remember her, Laguna is the only thing Ellone has left in the world, so of course she's a little clingy, even as an adult.
As for Raine's death, as stated before, Laguna got caught up with running Esthar, and had NO CLUE Raine was pregnant OR dying until after it happened. He still regrets that, and so does Ellone.

But he didn't go and find Squall when he learnt that she died and he had baby boy. Instead, he just left him with Cid and Edea.
If he care so much for Ellone, why he didn't want to meet Squall?

Because he knew Squall was better where he was. Squall was doing well in Garden, there was no sense in ripping him away from all that to try and establish a father-son relationship, especially since he was so busy in Esthar. It would have just made matters worse.

Ellone was about to be used as an experiment and could have easily died.
Squall was relatively safe.
I think anyways.

umm btw, why Laguna locked himself in Esthar? i mean, he likes travel and he could just go after the Adel things finish instead of being the President there.

I assumed Esthar with it's cloaking was a very hard place to leave & enter...I cannot remember but was any information given to when the cloaking of Esthar started? If it was while Laguna was there perhaps that's why he found it hard to leave...the outside world was supposed to think it disappeared with Adel. Furthermore, and maybe off the ball but he spent some time with the Shumi's, perhaps he picked up a little of their attitude to life, everything is pre-destined etc. Perhaps he felt it wasn't his choice to leave & abandoned his own desires for the sake of peace on earth?
Fact is....I guess we'll truely never know...

The Estharians needed his help, and since he had nothing to return to, he chose to stay there. Maybe he got tired of traveling.

Hmm, Laguna suddenly become responsible?
Btw, do you think Laguna return back to Esthar with Ellone after the ultimecia things?
TheAbominatrix

When was he not responsible? He always did his job, and he was very responsible in Winhill, doing his job killing monsters and all.
I assume they did. Dunno.

Well, if he didn't bring the wrong map, he wouldn't end up being chased by Esthar soldiers and go down the cliff.
Beside, he did leave Raine and made Julia heart broken. . .
But imagine that he got the best looking girls in Final Fantasy VIII. . .

So he made a mistake, and that makes him irresponsible? He was absent-minded.
He left Raine to save Ellone's life. I fail to see how that constitutes him being irresponsible.

Hey! Come to think. . . How come Caraway comes into the picture all of sudden?
When Laguna met Julia, there was no caraway there.
TheAbominatrix

Caraway existed before that. He comforted Julia after her heart was broken. He probably didnt wish to step in when she was clearly in love with someone else.

Right - Caraway and Julia were friends anyway, and when Laguna never came back from the war, she turned to him for support, and eventually they fell in love, or she settled, however you choose to look at it.
As for why Laguna never left Esthar, its pretty simple - nobody really leaves Esthar. No one knew what happened to the place after the war, just like no one knew what happened to Sorceress Adel. The entire country became isolationists in the strictest sense of the word, and as such, Laguna doesn't leave often. Also, there's nothing much for him to go to. However, he does leave now and then - he was on the ship that Ellone jumped onto, for example. As for Squall, yeah, I think Laguna thinks Squall was better off without him. Laguna doesn't think much of himself in general, so its not surprising that he would think Edea and Cid could raise both Squall and Ellone better than he ever could.

Yes but wouldn't he wants to see what his son looks like? Wouldn't you want to see what your son looks like? Beside if he could send Ellone go back to Winhill, why wouldn't he follow her as well? I think that time Raine has not died.

Raine was dead by the time Ellone got back. He couldnt leave because, as stated before, the people of Esthar needed his help. As far as he knew, he had plenty of time to help them and return to Raine and his child and Ellone. He was wrong, and before he even sent Ellone back, Raine was dead.
He knows all about his son and probably has pictures of him, I'm sure he could easily get updates from Cid.

Good Lord...
You know, Im not even going to bother. ShivaBlizzard has made this all quite clear. You've even been to this point in the game. You should know the answer to your question.

Sorry, I haven't passed disc 2.
Anyway lets forget it

Oh, man - what TheAbominatrix means is that by disc 2 its quite clear Ellone has MET Raine. Raine ADOPTED HER long before Laguna entered the picture. Maybe you should finish the game before making assumptions about the storyline.

I really wants to but I can't encounter Galbadia Garden (Last mission of Disc 2) No matter what I did and press.
And as far as I remember. . . someone saying that Ellone was waiting for Laguna to return to Winhill. . . To hear the good news of he is having a son.
Anyway, in conclusion, Laguna is a unique guy with complex attitudes and feelings.

I agree with everything that's been posted and would like to comment on the "who's sexier" discussion....it can't really be decided because we see Raine's whole face clearly when it's zoomed in at the end but all we see of Julia is a sketchy, vague figure from a distance.

If you were president of a nation during a revolution, you wouldn't really have a lot of time to go off and see family members on another continent. Besides, like someone said before, he thought he had all the time in the world.
