This is mainly for Broadband users:

Forevergeek.com has a useful guide on speeding up firefox for broadband users. basically after getting to the hidden config settings you set the browser to request more data that it usually does.

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0”. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages MUCH faster now!

Because it's "experimental".

You MAY run into issues with servers that do not appreciate you making 30 connections at once, just a heads up.

But yes, I have seen a performance boost since I did this a few weeks ago.

Wow, works great. Even more interesing is the about:config dialog. That is customizability!

Yeah, read this on the Firefox forums a while back. It's hard to notice a huge speed improvement on broadband, though.

Awesome.

I notice a considerable increase in speed. That just made my day.

I don't think it's 30 connections at once anyway. It's more like making 30 requests with one connection, instead of making a connection, recieving the file and then close the connection again, repeat.
