View Full Version : Character Limit on Private Messages

I've noticed when typing out lengthy PMs that there's a 5000 character limit. It's a minor thing, I know, but cutting chunks out of your messages, or splitting them into two entries is rather irritating. It also goes against our human instinct to avoid double-posting.

Could this be changed, please?

If you're writing an essay, why don't you email them instead? :p

5000 letters (5 KB of plain text) seems overkill to me to be honest, if anything, it should be reduced :monster:

I don't see how a 5,000 character PM is different from a 5,000 character post, except that they're far rarer. Still, I'll take your point and try e-mailing from now on, inconvenient though it may be. :D

How many posts are there that are actually that large anyway? :p

I've had millions of PMs over the character limit. Literally? Ah sure, why not? But that's mainly due to a long quote conversation.

How many posts are there that are actually that large anyway? :pThere are plenty of examples in EoEo, but like I said, 5,000+ messages are pretty rare, but they do exist.

Increasing the character limit won't make the PMs any longer, it'll just make sending them possible. A couple of extra sentences can't be too much trouble, surely?

There's a simple solution to this: "Part 1", "Part 2", "Part 3", etc. If a PM is that long, tack that on to the end.
