The best way to ensure hijackers are gone from Windows is to reformat and reinstall, due to the large number of components these nasty programs use to try and keep themselves present. Once you've done that, download Firefox, install, then never touch IE again so IE can't be exploited so it'll never happen again.

Isn't there any OTHER way?

Try downloading AdAware and Search and Destroy, run them in Safe Mode with System Restore disabled.

Then download Firefox and never use IE again. Oh and also re-install your Anti-virus just to be sure :D

I did a google search on "searchdom remove", and I got a few results on how to attempt to remove it, though I wouldn't say they were simple methods to try.

In any case, once it is removed, get an up to date antivirus scanner as Baloki said, and get Firefox to replace IE, since it's always best to prevent this stuff form happenning again :p

Don't bother with updating your antivirus scanner.

And cl_out and Baloki, stop perpetuating the myth that antivirus will do sweet <img src=http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif><img src=http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif><img src=http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif><img src=http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif> all about spyware.

Get Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and HijackThis, and run them every week. That and Firefox. Oh yes, and stop going to porn sites and stealing software with KaZaA.

Like I said, stop perpetuating myths.

He should have an AV anyway, spyware or not. Some people use OE.

Spyware can still infect Anti-virus programs and disable them, depends how malisious it is. :p

Spyware doesn't do that kind of thing, they want to retain their tenuous grip on legality.

Cops and judges have spyware infections, too. They'd love an excuse to shut the bastards down.

Hold F8 or the Windows Key on start-up to get into safe mode and it shouldn't freeze up as much. :)

Edit: It might be F9...

Does F5 still boot into Safe Mode and skip the menu in WinXP? I know it worked in 95, but I've not tried it since :p
