I have this problem of only buddying people i personally know. i do the same on myspace.com, which is why my buddy list friends is so small compared to my other friends

As far as I know the buddy list doesn't provide any benefit other than the plus sign and they appearing in your User CP somewhere.

It adds a little bit of comment delimited data to the `buddylist` column in the `usertextfield` database table...other than that, there isn't much that happens. :D

When you turn on your buddy list, you immediately receive "Cid's Knight" style powers.
