Maybe we could compile a list of name references in Xenogears? For example, Weltall, Fei's gear, is named for the german word for "universe," or "cosmos."

Elly is short for Ellen which is a name.

Her full name is Elhaym Van Houten, actually. :)
Which MAY be a Simpsons reference - that's Milhouse's last name as well. That or they're both referring to the same thing, and I'm too boorish to catch it.

I have heard the Vierge is "virgin" in latin. Notice how after Fei and Elly get it on, Elly no longer has her "Virgin" gear.

According to the internets it's supposed to be "Etemenanki," which means "House of the Foundation of Heaven and Earth" and was the Babylonian name for the Tower of Babel, or some such.
Which makes no sense, because Solaris isn't connected to Babel... ah well.
nikotine: the implication is Virgo. Rico's is Stier, for Taurus, and Renmazuo is apparently Chinese for Sagittarius.

Vierge is actually virgin in French.
From what I recall of French, that is indeed correct.

All of the Anima Relics are named after the tribes that were founded by the children of Cain.
