Why Become a Sphere Hunter?

Buddy tells a story to Yuna about how the Gullwings got started in the engine room during either chapter 4 or 5 - I don't remember if that includes why they're sphere hunters, per se, however.

However, it would seem that sphere hunting is big on Spira right now - LeBlanc's Syndicate were all sphere hunters too. My guess is that ever since Yevon was exposed in FFX, people began to question their beliefs and their pasts; all those things Bevelle hid from the public. The FFX-2 world is going through social upheaval with who to trust (New Yevon vs Youth Leauge), so its understandable that people would search for these sphere's which might contain visual or audio histories of Spira - that might shed some light on where their culture came from, and where it should go next (kind of like all the desert excavation).

Also, in a less altruistic vein, the demand for such spheres would make them valuable, and finding them a very lucrative job.
