is there any point in break damage/hp etc limit when it's simply to allow you to match the villians who have to match you and it goes on and on. What was wrong with simply maxing out at 9999.

they're able to use bigger numbers now.

plus it allows for super bosses:D or something.

you might as well say 'ha, we used to do 999 damage, why do you need to deal out 9999?' or something. maybe not.

Well when your characters are 10x stronger then they would be normally and you can kill a boss that has 12,000,000 hp, it makes you feel special.

it doesnt make me feel specil, it just seems a gimmick

You kids and your big numbers! In my we could only do 999 damage to monsters at the most, and that was after we made the numbers ourselves and walked 40 miles in the snow uphill to deliver them to the monsters before they took damage!!!
;)

Seriously though, I think it's a gimmick. Or they figured that was "the next step".

wow, it must have been tough carrying those dice all that way in the snow :)

I don't mind the larger numbers myself. Infact, I quite enjoy having those insanely large numbers at times. Yes it can be seen as gimmicky, but then again the same could be said for any series of numbers you choose to use. The more powerful you can become, the more game that you can logically play to get there, the longer the lifespan, means happier gamers (except those of you who are wingeing)

And how long would it take to kill Penance (12mil HP) if your couldn't break the damage limit? You would have to hit Penance 1201 times for 9999 each hit (well actually 1200 for 9999 and 1 for 1200). That would take forever. At best, that would be 100 perfect Attack Reels, plus another hit. You can only entrust 6 times before you'd have to fill everyone's limit gauge again. And there's always those arms that keep coming back. I would much rather steal the Fairy Flute from Hilgigars that beat Penance without Break Damage Limit. And besides, it's not like it was particularly easy to get the Break Damage Limit ability or anything. It was either difficult or time consuming.

Well, if you couldn't break the limit, I highly doubt they would make monsters with that much HP.

UPHILL! And they're some BIG dice. Leave me alone.

But I'm sure there would be some very satisfied people if they did.

And the rest of the world would have an epidemic of shattered playstations.

They might as well shatter them themselves, they'll break somehow soon enough anyway.

I agree, it is just a gimmick. In FF1, I've rarely seen a character do more than 500 damage. Of course, the final boss only has 2000 HP, so anything more is unnecessary. People complain about how you can't break 9999 or do multiple consecutive attacks in FF9, but because the hardest boss in the game has just a little over 60000 HP, this is also unnecessary.

If you ask me, there shouldn't be a limit to begin with. The only limit should be caused by how high you can get you stats.

Well... I wouldn't have a problem if a boss in, for example, FFVII or FFVIII had something like 17,000,000HP. Actually, I think Ultima Weapon in FFVIII should've had just about that much HP. However... now there's all those multiple hit attacks in those 2 games... so you're still able to do more than 9999 dammage in 1 move... but whatever. In FFIX I wouldn't have any problem if there was a boss with about 1,000,000 HP. :greenie:

Agreed.

well if they are going to up the limit, why bother stopping anywhere, why not just make it unlimited. I enjoyed the fact that villians in FF8 leveld up with you.
