View Full Version : Economiser... again

Has anyone actually gotten an economiser? It's listed on many walkthroughs as an item that you can get by either betaing a Brachosaur or a bird in the Phoenix cave (it starts with an "A" but I can't remember it's name. It's been so long...).
There was a thread about this last year but I never saw if anyone actually got an economiser in the end.
Anyhoo... has anyone actually gotten one themselves, cos I've tried and tried but these monsters are so scabby. You think they'd give me my present for beating them up. You can't even steal economisers (although I wouldn't mind stealing a pair of shoes, cos plastic bags just don't seem to cut it.)

uhm yes, I've gotten a bunch of economizers, I think I had one on almost all of my main spell casters, which is at least 6 people (2 per group in the end).
SO yeah they do exist if that's what you're wondering...

Just spend a long time in the dragon forest, not only will you get the economizers, you'll have so many MP you won't need them anymore with all the levelling you did :p

I did exactly that, got loads of experience and didn't get one but didn't need one in the end.
How long (or how many tries) did it take you to get one? I spent ages trying, eventually got bored, and decided to finish the game without one cos I figured I didn't really need it. I still got through the final battle and I don't think I even needed to use any kind of elixer (be it mega or otherwise).

It's all luck. I've gone into the forest and gotten one on my first try and other times I'll fight in there for hours and I won't find one. Also, try having Locke steal one from the Bracheosaurs.

I suppose it would help if I had any luck to begin with. Can you actually steal economisers from bracheosaurs? I thought you could only steal ribbons from them.
Well, I might as well go out and kill me some dinosaurs (and I was just thinking of making myself a sandwich.)

1. You can steal Ribbons from them. You can only win Economizers.
2. You can win an economizer at the colosseum, but you would have to give your Gem Box away...
3. The enemy you're talking about is Aquila. You can steal an economizer from it but you will probably get a Phoenix Down...
Last time I had 4 economizers from Brachosaurs (I fought about 20 of them) .

Aquila! Thats the word! Thanks, that was really bugging me!
The problem with the coliseum thing is that you would want your main magic user to have both an economiser and a gem box equipped at the same time.
I don't suppose there's any way to get another gem box. I assume there isn't cos you kinda have to kill a boss to get it, so I'm assuming it's a unique item, but on the off chance...

Hmmm, isn't there also a Bracheosars on Kefka's tower. Or ar those different ones??

There are "Brontaurs" on Kefka's tower. Same sprite, different color. They only have Dried Meat I think.

And they are worlds easier to defeat.

But do they have economisers? Even if there were brachosaurs on Kefka's tower, they appear much more frequently in the dionsaur forest. Besides, getting one on Kefka's tower is a little late (and a little more difficult...). Are there any other monsters who drop them I wonder...

No, they don't have economizers. You have to fight the Brachosaurs in the Dinosaur Forest for those.
And as mentioned before, you can steal them from the Aquila in the Phoenix Cave.
I've always found atleast one everytime I've played the game. The most I found was 5 or 6 when I wanted to get EVERYONE to level 99.

Were you just trying to level everyone up in the dinosaur forest or were you actually looking for economisers?

"Relm's bug" probably refers to the well-known trick of using Sketch on "illegal" enemies, which often has strange results. It also sometimes happens when a Sketch fails for some other reason. I would caution against it. While it can potentially net you a lot of items, including Economizers, it can cause severe glitches, including ruining your file (which a reset WILL NOT solve). In my opinion, this is not a risk worth taking, especially since there are other ways to get Economizers.
The economiser is required for my games. Much like the Gengi Glove, Offering, and Moogle Charm. I just run a buncha circles around the Jurassic Park place. That forest... I level up all my chars to max while I'm at it usually. All the ones I plan on using the rest of the game anyway.

The sketch bug actually works a tiny bit differnt then previously described. It's been mostly figured by a chap called Master Zed that frequents another forum I've been going to. I swear, he knows everything about FF VI. If I didn't know any better, I would even think that he worked on the original game sometimes. If I didn't know any better that is. Here's an outside link to a detailed discussion on the Sketch Glitch. (http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/ipb/index.php?showtopic=4095&hl=sketch+glitch) It's a tad bit complicated but it's eventually broken down into the basics. If you feel like a little cheating, you can probably get an Econimizer with the Sketch glitch. If you use it properly that is. (If you use it improperly, well you might want to say bye-bye to your save file.)
Anyway, for more "save safe" minded players there are other more legit ways of getting it. I got one from a Brachosaur once and it's definatly worth it. It's a long wait but it's definatly worth it. With all of the Spells, Lores and Espers costing only 1 MP apiece, Magic users can make great use of that relic. :)
Stealing from Aquila, I've never tried before but I've heard from many a reliable scorce that it's possible. You can encounter them in two places. The first place is the Phoenix Cave, top floor on a few select tiles. It's hard to find them there unfortuanatly so you'd be better off fighting the Brachosaurs. The other place is in the Colosseum by betting multiple things. I reccomend the Strato because it's easy to get back. Now if you want to steal reliably in the colloseum, I'd reccomend taking Gogo. You can set him up so that his abilities are Mimic (Which'll act as fight) Steal, Steal and Steal. Give him some Running Shoes and Sneak ring too and you're off. Whatever you steal (Either Phoenix Down or Econimizer) is yours to keep win or lose. Like I said before though, I never tried stealing the Econimizer from an Aquila myself so I'm not entirly sure about it myself unfortunatly.
The other way is to bet the one of a kind Gem Box but you won't want to do that. The Gem Box is an excellent tool that's best combined with the Econimizer, not traded for it.
Or it that's too much hassle, you can always, you know get Zoneseek and teach everybody Osmose. It'll waste a turn but the MP you can gain is practically endless and in addition to the self restoration, you're also depleting your enemy of a little bit of MP as well.
