"I don't want to say anything mean."

Isn't saying that phrase the same as saying something mean?

"I love you more than words can say."

Just saying those words conveys the amount you love a person, so the phrase is actually a contradiction.

Can you think of any other contradictions, NOT oxymorons?

Very interesting, I'd never thought of "I love you more than words can say" that way.

"I hate to moan, BUT..."

I once read a dessert menu claiming that this restaurant's chocolate cake was "indescribably" good. I felt like punching whoever wrote that.

Along that line, can anything be truly indescribable? The word itself partially describes whatever it is modifying.

Of course things can be indescribable. It's just that using a word like that to describe an item on a menu is so hyperbolic that it should be illegal.

"I don't mean to be rude..." should be and seems like an insult in itself, because it's invariably followed by a rude comment :p

"Fun run"

Whoever invented this phrase needs their teeth pulled out.

What about when people shout " Heads Up " , when there's a brick or large object flying through the air , when common sense tells us to duck ????

"Now, I don't mean to brag..." (but I'm about to say lots of wonderful things about myself).

"Please don't take offence, but..." (I'm going to offend you in my next sentence).

"Don't take this the wrong way, but..." (even though you will)
"I mean that in the nicest way possible." (you don't, but you accidently insulted them and are trying to take it back)

"It's always in the last place you look." It's always in the last place because you wouldn't be looking after you found it, would you?

Sometimes you do.

"Oh, there's my sunglasses. Cool. Wait, where'd my sunglasses go?'

Actually, Heads Up and Look Out have gotten more people hurt than people realize. People react to it as "Look." And they do. And....whack.

Yeah ive never liked that either...Just say there was a brick flying to a preson over there about to be hit by it...You yell "heads up!" and they look around and see the brick coming closer...closer..closer and BANG! Right in the face! I dont know about you but I'd Rather a concussion then having my nose nocked off, eyes gauged out, half your face inside your head, and basically mutilated...
