So how do I make them work? Yes, I have Windows XP. I feel like ripping somebody's insides out, since I want to play greatawesome games like Phantasmagoria, Gabriel Knight and other stuff. Help.

I'm not sure how. Every old game may or may not work with XP. I have had mixed success with old games.

I hate to say it but you may be out of luck. If you have any extra old computer parts, you could put together an old computer just to play the good old games.

Damn you, Sierra. Damn you to hell.

What specifically happens when you try to run any of the games?

It's different really. I get to install the game, but never play it. Phantasmagoria displays an empty error sign, where I just have to press ok, then it shuts down. I checked what I needed to play it, and my comp failed at two points: Wrong windows and the colours. It wants SVGA 640 x 480 and 256 colours and Windows 95 or NT.

The other games usually fail at the colours and some fails at the sound.

Have you tried messing around with the compatibility modes for the program.

Install one of the games and create a shortcut icon to the game. Right-click on the shortcut you created and select "properties" from the menu.

On the window that comes up, there is a compatibilty tab. On that tab you can select 256 colors, 640x480, disabled windows themes, and you can also set which version of windows to emulate when running the program.

Yer, I know. Doesn't work. I've searched around and I seem to have to install a lot of programs and yatta yatta, so I guess I'll just try various stuff.

I try to play King's Quest 5 and 6 on my sisters PC with the Windows 98 OS, and it simply refuses to work. The older pre-Windows DOS KQ games work ok, however.

You can buy an old 486 laptop or desktop for $50 on ebay. That's less than the cost of most games.

Hmm, good idea. I might just do that.
