Ok, so I looked at my calendar and I discovered that you Englishpeople have translated the easter-friday to "Good Friday". What's up with that? You know that's when Jesus died, eh? So you consider this day to be good? Here in Norway, we call this day "Long Friday". Sounds more appropiate imho.

What's your excuse? This better be good. :rolleyes2

Well, It's better than 'Easter Friday'. We already have two 'Easter XXXX' days.

Are you implying that Easter isn't good?

It's always been Good Friday to me. Never really knew what it was about. But maybe it's good because it's a holiday?!

It's Good Friday here in the states, too. :-/

Here's your excuse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Friday):
In Early Modern English, good had a meaning of "holy". A "good tide" is, for example, Christmas or Shrove Tuesday.

Up until now, I thought it was for the resurrection of Christ.

To me, Easter is just another excuse for a long weekend. I think chocolate is factored in there somewhere too.

I don't get the day off, so it isn't a very good Friday for me.

I figured it was 'Good' because Jesus died for our sins on that day. Well, he died, but being part of God and all does make me wonder if he knew he was gonna revive in a few days anyway. "Oh, y'no, it's just a day of pain, I'll be good in a few days. I'm the son of God! I can take it!"

But yeah, I think it's called Good Friday because it's the day we were saved, or something.

I didn't know we were using the Gregorian Calendar back then.

Gregorian is based on the roman calender.

This is what I always thought. Jesus himself says that his death is a good thing. Maybe death and pain is bad, but the event it triggers is the most significant of Christian axioms.

I have never heard it called Easter Friday.

Palm Sunday[pawlm sundie] (tomorrow), Good Friday, Easter Sunday.

we get out of school (actually this year it's over spring break, but we'd get out anyways. This I know because I was the one my sister called when she was having her first baby on good friday six years ago) and like BoB said, it's when Jesus died, which had to happen, so since it happened, we can be saved, which is good^_^

cadbury eggs are too rich for me. I like the reeses ones with peanut butter and chocolate.

and Peeps.

Just a question in passing, how come Easter time changes from year to year? Do we not know exactly when Jesus was cruxified?

From everything I've learned, the overall concept of Easter came from a Wiccan celebration of spring, which is where all the ideas bunnies and the like came from as bunnies are meant to mean fertility, which in turn is a big part of springtime in many respects.

Take care all.

For the extremely curious amongst us: Easter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter) and Good Friday (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Friday).

*Scratches head*

Did anyone notice how I... ya know.... posted the etymology of Good Friday and put a link to to wikipedia back on the first page? :-/

Heh, I like how in wikipedia's Easter entry, a picture of an excessively cute ceramic easter bunny is put under the header of "Germanic Heathen Festival". :p

I stand corrected. Thanks for the links, both of you good fellows.
