As I talked about in the ever-popular FFXI forum, my friend is going to buy and pay for an mmorpg for the both of us. The problem is finding a good one.

What we're interested in is basic graphical mmorpgs, nothing very specific.

So, can anyone suggest one to me? The only thing important is that my friend and I can play together from the get-go.

Thanks in advance.

Other than WoW? I've heard very good things about City of Heroes. Other than that and WoW, there's nothing I could really recommend.

Neither game is a huge pain in the ass, so I suppose you're unleet if you play them.

Lineage 2
Matrix Online

I do not reccomend EverQuest.

I'm making myself gag here, but I must suggest World of Warcraft. Ultima Online's gone too far down the toilet.

EDIT: Ooh, Lineage 2 might be good, as well.

City of Heroes... hmm I'll check that out. Danke.

edit: Yeah, I've heard good things of WoW and I've lost friends to it. I've played a bit myself but I dont know if I wanna commit myself to that one.

Hmm, well if by graphical you mean something that you can see (not just the flashy 3D ones) then you COULD try Tibia. It's totally unlike any of the others that have been posted so far, and it's quite cheap. But I think its's like the MMORPG equivalent to Marmite. I found it fun for a couple of years though.

Yeah I mean something I can see, not like a MUD or anything. I'll check Tibia out, thanks!

If you like you can look at an old website me and a friend made, it's a little outdated but it's got quite a few screenshots and you'd get the basic idea of the game. Land of Tibia. (http://www.freewebs.com/landoftibia)

Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst.

That's what I'd recommend right there. Blue Burst was just announced for a Spring launch the other day, so this might be a good bet.

PSO is my personal favorite online game, so I'd have to recommend that over anything. Blue Burst is going to have Episodes I, II, and IV.

The only downside to PSO you should be aware of is that it's not really an MMORPG, but rather an online RPG. You can still play with your friend, but you are only going to be in games of up to 4 people. A very cool difference between PSO and other online RPGs is the virtual lobby, which allows you to interact with the avatars of thousands of other characters not yet in a game.

PSO can be very challenging. Reaching level 200 is very, very tough. To give you a breakdown on how tough, let's just say it takes 10 million exp to reach level 130. By that point, you've reached the hardest difficultly in the game, Ultimate mode. Those last 70 levels will take eight times as long to attain.

To break the monotony of regular gaming is Challenge mode, which pits a team of four in a timed trial through the regular game with fixed stats. It's very fun, and if you complete it you can acquire some very, very powerful weapons.

Of course, there's PvP, but I've never, ever been a fan of that in online RPGs. It just doesn't make sense to me.

A great MMORPG that I love to play is "The 4th Coming". the game has multiple servers with different settings so it is easy to find a community you fit in with. www.t4cbible.com is the page with the golden information when it comes to this game. I play multiple servers although I frequent Realmud more then the others.(I am know as Hunnuli to that community... recently felt the need for a name change so I took up the alias Shun.)

City of heroes is good... But Guild Wars looks awsome. No Online fees..
NO ONLINE FEES HALLELUJAH! and It looks to have awesome gameplay. (it was created by several Blizzard guys who worked on Star Craft and Diablo and created Battlenet who split off to form arena net.) World of Warcraft is going to have to watch it's back. I just reserved my Guild Wars copy. It isn't coming out till April 28th but still :bigbiggri

I hope the game play will be smooth and fun, cause I've played some games that had very jaggedy graphics style. >_<

Its called Tibia, not Land of Tibia, and I play it more than I do FF and other consoles. The game is fun as heck. If anyone is interested please contact me, and I'll help you out. And that link takes you to a fansite NOT the actual game. THIS will take you there. Tibia (http://www.tibia.com)

I'd say WoW, but I'm biased on this one, otherwise, I think Guild Wars (http://www.guildwars.com/) should be out soon, and you might be able to try it for free before it's released.

Guild Wars will be free to play anyway! ^_^;
You'll just have to buy the game it self from the store, so no free downloading the client. XD Still thats a good deal!

Star Wars Galaxies is supposed to be pretty good as long as you have the Jump to Light Speed expansion.

But WoW is probably the way to go.

Actually, there is a place in the game named Femur Hills.

And yes, I know the game is called Tibia. If you would've actually read my post I was explaining a fan site named "Land of Tibia"

I do not recommend WoW. I played in Open Beta and retail for a long while... and I say just don't get involved in something so horrific. I'm sorry to all you WoW fanboys, but it's really just not an MMORPG and it should have stayed offline.

I'd suggest FFXI, but that's because I'm going back to play it again. Other than that there's RO or Graal Online (check this one out, it's like a Zelda LttP styled MMORPG). There's also R.O.S.E, which I downloaded the open beta and it seemed like it had potential, but yet again in the same boat as WoW for me.

I don't know many others, unless you really want to have a crack at EQ or EQII.
