How do they work

Also can they work on Macs in the UK

A ROM is an image of a cartridge. Which when loaded into an emulator allows you to play the game on your PC.

As for working on Macs. If there's an emulator designed for the Mac platform then yes, they'll work.

I perfer emulation to actually playing the games on the consoles. I tend to only emulate games I actually own. Which is odd, I know, but it's how I do it.

Emulators I use:
NES: FCE Ultra
Genesis: Gens
SNES: ZSNES
Playstation: ePSXe (Pete's Open GL 2.3, Eternal SPU plugins)
Nintendo 64: Nemu64
Gameboy Advance: VisualBoy Advance

I haven't actually downloaded roms in forever, so I don't know where to get them these days.

15 is well old enough for a job. Back in my day, kids had left home, joined the workforce and started a family by then.
