Instead of abusing the feedback forum, is it possible to update the guideline so we won't get further threads like the past few threads that has been closed.

I mean, the feedback forum is to discuss how the staff of the forum is doing, and for suggestions that may improve the forums in some way. Not to complain about why someone has a larger avatar, or make a stupid request like "let's make this a new rule," because that's not the purpose for this forum.

I know it may sound like a dumb request, but I'm tired of seeing dumb threads that has nothing to do with improving the forums or giving feedback about the staff.

Now, let me discuss about some of the closed threads in the Feedback.

The old EZBoard - Ok, what does this has to do with feedback of the forums or the forums' staff? Absolutely nothing. This would have been better off in General Chat.

Can this be a new rule in chat? - Same here. Nothing about the forums, and the suggestion was just plain stupid.

Feedback - Ok, I don't know about this thread, but it's about the forums, but it's nothing important to announce. Just my opinion.

Question and spinoff threads - Ok these are the threads I don't want to see in feedback. First of all, why has it been replied to so often? Why does Raistlin having a larger avatar than everyone else be such a huge matter to anyone? Why oh why?? This is the reason why I think the Feedback Forum's FAQ should be updated so that we see more threads that concern the forums and the staff, instead of things that is not important.

The Feedback Forum was created as a place for members to comment on the staff, and about the forum, such as requesting changes to rules, adding new forums, and other forums related issues. Nothing nonsense, just straight to the point with the forums and the staff. Having a thread to add a new smiley or two is acceptable, as long as it's not a stupid smiley.

So, what do you think? I am tired of the kind of threads the Feedback is getting recently that's getting closed, and it's moving away from the true purpose of this forum.

Edit: Yeah, I also noticed I typoed "random" Can someone fix that for me?

Del Murder

What's stupid to you might not be stupid to someone else.

But I agree for the most part, and so we should probably tone it down a little. Easier said than done, I guess.

Ace Protorney
03-22-2005, 04:06 AM
Yeah, that's true.

Anyway, this can be done. If a thread is not acceptable, just close it immediately so others won't take the oppurtunity to spam the thread with nonsense, or do whatever the staff decides to do.

The Feedback has been a "safe haven" for nonsense lately, and I think it just needs to be dealt with immediately.

It is a good suggestion. The Feedback Forum needs to be reformed so that we see more threads concerning staff and forums, instead of other things like "why Raistlin has a larger avatar" or "why Jojo has a pink custom title" and whatnot.

Feedback Forum was made to give feedback to staff (concerning policies, rules, bans, and other things concerning staff) and to suggest ideas (whether it's useful or pointless).

Edit: Also... just because.

If you translate "Why does Raistlin have a big picture of himself for an avatar?" to "I don't think its fair that the staff has bestowed such a thing on Raistlin and not everyone else," then it's direct feedback. So are you suggesting we get all nazi about how people word things?

Not to complain about why someone has a larger avatar, or make a stupid request like "let's make this a new rule," because that's not the purpose for this forum.
Then where do those suggestions go, exactly? They belong here, whether you find them significant or not.

I know it may sound like a dumb request, but I'm tired of seeing dumb threads that has nothing to do with improving the forums or giving feedback about the staff.
I would love for the Feedback to be nothing but what I consider beneficial to the forums. Everyone has their own cutoff to what they deem inconsequential. I consider suggestions for chat inconsequential - BoB, for example, does not. I consider new smiley requests inconsequential - Spiff, for example, does not. See what I mean? It's an impossible to attain ideal.

The old EZBoard - Ok, what does this has to do with feedback of the forums or the forums' staff? Absolutely nothing. This would have been better off in General Chat.
Y'know how newbie threads can be posted anywhere? And how for more in-depth threads, you have a perogative of choosing General Chat, EoEO, or World Events to post them in? That's how I view it. Especially for such insinificant threads such as this. I think newbie threads don't belong in EoEO, and I think the "Where is everybody?" thread in EoEO should be in General Chat; however, it's not in General Chat, so I have to live with it.

Can this be a new rule in chat? - Same here. Nothing about the forums, and the suggestion was just plain stupid.
Using your own definitions of stupid, maybe. What should staff do? Make a rule saying "no stupid suggestions allowed?" How ridiculous is that? It would be great if it would work, but it's like abolishing all the rules except for "use your fucking brain" - great if it'd work, but it wouldn't.

Can this be a new rule in chat? - Same here. Nothing about the forums, and the suggestion was just plain stupid.
The chat is part of EoFF - where else would chat suggestions go? I, personally, consider chat inconsequential, but others don't.

Because it's fun, and we were having fun. When the staff thought we'd had enough fun, they closed the threads.

I was starting to type out a legitimate rebuttle to this, until I saw "long as it's not a stupid smiley" and could only sigh. C'mon Proto - be at least a little rational, here.

So, what do you think? I am tired of the kind of threads the Feedback is getting recently that's getting closed, and it's moving away from the true purpose of this forum.
I, for one, think you are failing to be objective.

How is Feedback moving away from its purpose? Sure, sometimes the threads aren't really about "important" issues, but how many important issues are there? It's not affecting the occurance of "legitimate" feedback threads. Scroll down on the thread listings. See "abusing the Swear Filter"? Yeah, that was a legitimate thread. Or how about "Serious or silly?" I think that was legitimate. And those are the only recent ones that I can think of off the top of my head.

As for the new smilies threads... Come on, EoFF doesn't need any more smilies, and there's already enough as it is. If the staff is going to add more, they can just do so on their own, just like how Shlup added the pandas and skulls.

The staff should take care of each thread as they see fit.

Do we close this thread too? Heh.

Chat is part of EoFF. If you can think of a better place to discuss the rules of chat over a long period of time, that'd be great, but last time I checked not everyone is able to see every line of chat, meanwhile everyone is able to see every post here about chat. So yeah. Don't think they're all that different, because really, they're not. They're both EoFF, most chatters in #eoff are registered at EoFF and we really do need to do more to keep chat active because chat is an important part of EoFF. Definitely. Roogle, clout and I run #eoff at the moment and I think you're just as unimportant as you think chat is, so meh.

I don't see any major problems with the threads although they are getting a bit spammy and sometimes a little hostile but I'm quite confident that we can solve such things. Feedback seems to be the only forum in EoFF that can actually give me a headache, though. It's notable that when I originally suggested the Feedback Forum, I suggested it to be a thread, and if it was to be a forum it was to be temporary. I wouldn't really mind if it disappeared altogether. Maybe things wouldn't be so frustrating for certain members and maybe other certain members wouldn't get so annoyed at staff, or with each other anymore. :p

No, I don't think that we should close this thread, BoB. Proto has a made some very good points and Feedback has been dubbed the Spam Forum and I guess that's a far cry from what it was originally meant for. This spammyness does get quite frustrately when someone does try to put a legitimate thread in here. Isn't there enough of that going on in GC? It's really difficult to take someone seriously in here, but if you don't, you get unprofessional thrown at you so I really have to agree with Proto that it is getting ridiculous in here.

The closing thing was a joke. =P But I do think that this place isn't exactly the most productive of forums, not after so long. It's just become a spam forum with a touch of debate something to death, wait a month or two, repeat exact conversation, etc.

There's not that much to give feedback on :p The forums are going mostly fine, as far as I can tell. And when something does not suit someone's tastes, a person comes and argues it to death. And occasionally when there is a serious feedback thread, it gets dealt with. ^_^ Just because there are spammy threads does not mean that you can't bring up serious threads, either. So instead of letting the forum die, some people feel the need to spam it up and bring it to life! So while it is spammy, the original purpose is still being met, eh? (Hah I'm British *runs around*) Personally I think it's okay to have fun with feedback and not have it be serious all the time.

Proto, not everyone finds the idea stupid, especially the person that posted it. Seriously, do you want a "no stupid suggestions" rule?

The chat isn't inconsequential, but I think most things concerning chat should be left to those who take care of the chat, as most staff don't even visit #eoff on a regular basis, besides BoB, of course.

Ok, so if you want a change in chat, you PM BoB and don't let anyone else have any say in the matter.
Also, following that logic, suggestions for the FF Music forum(or whatever it's called) shouldn't go in here because the majority of the staff doesn't go in it.

Of course it's fun, but I found it going overboard, where Staff had a little dispute.
Ok...but how does that relate to the "stupid suggestions" complaint?

Most of the threads are legitimate, but seeing so many closed threads in Feedback makes me a sad panda.
They weren't closed because they were stupid suggestions - they were closed because we spammed the hell out of 'em. If you want staff to be more strict on spam(I don't), then that's a completely different issue.

All I'm trying to say is that the Feedback Forum needs to be taken care of better than it currently is. As I see it, it's almost like a joke forum.

I didn't know new smiley requests would so endanger the main purpose of Feedback.

The staff should take care of each thread as they see fit.
What were they doing before?

Proto has a made some very good points and Feedback has been dubbed the Spam Forum and I guess that's a far cry from what it was originally meant for.
No, actually he started this whole thing about stupid, inconsequential suggestions, then either forgot about his main point in this thread, or realized it was, in itself, a stupid, inconsequential suggestion. :p

About the spam: the spam doesn't interfere with the main purpose of the forum. Whether or not to continue the lenience toward spam in this forum is entirely preferential. Keeping it wouldn't affect the main purpose of the forum, and neither would it take away(however, it would take away a lot of fun).

Simply put, I doubt much would go on here without, and from what I can tell, most things that are requested get solved anyway in spite of the spam. It seems to be working fine as it is, and while I agree some of the stuff if unneccessary, why not let us have our fun?

I didn't like them. I didn't want a new rule made, or for them to be closed, but I was just saying how I didn't like them. Oh, yes, of course glancing at my LJ makes him more responsible than someone who actually changed everyone's avatars. :p

EDIT:

If I get one more request for a colored custom title I'm so banning clout from life.
I STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN MY EXTRA LONG BLUE CUSTOM TITLE

rando is a cool adjective. I wonder what it means now. :(

Yep, and just wait until Unne sees it. Then it'll be HILARIOUS.

Shlup
03-23-2005, 04:02 AM
He keeps going in and out of activity. I find it hard to believe he hasn't noticed.

Shlup's perspective is usually looking up from the floor. Kinda like Jojo's. Especially since she is 12. :D

Ace Protorney
03-23-2005, 04:06 AM
Except she's not a twerp.

Don't worry, you're not the only one feels the same way! :D

The new feedback mods aren't doing a very good job...

Shlup
03-23-2005, 04:13 AM
Oh yeah. I forgot about this thread being about the opposite of what we're doing. Sorry, Prot!

I haven't been given my extra long blue custom title yet, so I cannot start executing my duties.

I was pretty sure that Devil May Kick Ass and strawberryman were the new feedback mods, not you.

Oh. Well then yeah, they're doing a lousy job of it. =o

Leeza
03-23-2005, 04:23 AM
I'm so confused. What is this thread about again?

Ah yes. Feedback as being a place that should be used to discuss how the staff is doing and such. I see we're all doing just great. Figureheads and all. :)

Raistlin
03-23-2005, 04:25 AM
Picking on Carpie is much more important than setting an example. I should put that in the Feedback Constitution.

I think this qualifies as a "staff prank" which everybody agreed in the "Serious or silly?" thread was perfectly acceptable. :p

Shlup
03-23-2005, 04:31 AM
Yeah, what Raistlin said.

And if you guys don't like it you can join my buns!

Raistlin

From what I've heard, Shlup's buns make good company, too.

Of course it was - it was RSL!

Plus, we changed peoples' names and nobody got grouchy. Here, we just changed avatars and people are moaning like we snuck into their rooms at night and gave them a sex change.

Raistlin
03-23-2005, 05:41 PM
Jojo's title should be changed to "twerp."

Psychotic
03-23-2005, 05:55 PM
I agree with Raist. Also this is 4 pages late, but we let you have your way with that whole independence thing and look what happened! And I'll be damned if we make the same mistake twice!

So while it is spammy, the original purpose is still being met, eh? (Hah I'm British *runs around*) If you insist on using racial stereotypes at least use the right one, twerp. It's Canadians that say eh, not Brits, you frog eating, cossack dancing, whale hunting, boomerang throwing sombrero wearer!

Why do I have an Unne avatar? ;_;

Leeza doesn't have one!

Raistlin
03-23-2005, 06:36 PM
She did, she just changed it back 'cause she's a party-pooper.

Leeza
03-23-2005, 08:37 PM
Sorry to be a party pooper, but I changed it back because I don't think that Dr Unne appreciates any of this and I have respect for that.

Raistlin
03-23-2005, 08:47 PM
Oh, come on, I was joking. :p

Of course he doesn't appreciate it - that's the point!

It's ok, Shlup. She didn't say anything was wrong with what we're doing - just that she doesn't want a part of it.

Now, Lynx said he was making more Unne avatars for everybody! xD

Shlup
03-23-2005, 09:18 PM
But everyone must be all for annoying Unne. It's an important part of life.

More Unne avatars! Yay!
