Which are you most looking forward to?

I know most people would probably say Final Fantasy XII because it's a Final Fantasy game, and the buildup for it is intense. I'm as curious to see what it's going to be like as anybody. But after looking at all the available previews and information about Dragon Quest VIII, I wouldn't be surprised if it's just as good or even better.

Either way, they both look like must-buy games.

I am looking forward to them both! However, I am looking forward to FFXII more.

They sell dragon quest in the U.S?

They sold I-IV on the NES back in the day. For some reason, they refused to give us V and VI for the SNES. Then Enix (at the time) decided to give us VII for the PSX. They also decided to give us the GBC remakes of I-III. However, we did not get the PSX remake of IV. Now, they are going to give us VIII! Simple!

Edit: It's called Dragon Warrior over here because the name Dragon Quest is taken in the US. I think that Dragon Quest VIII will actually be called "Dragon Quest" this time, though.

I'm looking forward to both of them.

I'm not looking forward to FFXII because it's another FF game, but rather because of the dramatic change the gameplay is supposed to undergo, so I guess it's the fact that it's going to hold less similarity to the series in general than any other FF game in the past that interests me the most.

I'm looking forward to Dragon Warrior/Quest VIII because, "OMG it's Dragon Warrior! In full 3D!". The non-comformity to constantly updated visual standards is probably the primary reason the Dragon Quest series isn't as popular outside of Japan. Hopefully the newest title will help to build a much bigger fanbase in the U.S., Europe, and Australia.

The graphics for Dragon Warrior/Quest VIII look stunning, by the way. Maybe the most beautiful looking RPG I've ever seen. The characters are cel-shaded with a lot of texture... the game almost looks like a moving painting.

An in-game shot. As in, you can walk around in that.

Nothing groundbreaking, really, but sure, it's nice. Too bad the Dragon Quest gameplay turns me off so much.

I think they used cel-shading in Dark Cloud 2.
Oh yeah, on topic; I'm really not too excited over either of them.
Not saying I don't want to play them, but I just don't get excited easily.

I'm looking forward to both, but I lean towards FFXII since I have more information on it.

Final Fantasy XII. Just because the last Dragon Quest/Warrior game disappointed me.

I own the Japanese version of Dragon Quest VIII and it is very nice. Also its even better if your an Akira Toriyama fan, heh.

DWVIII looks like a mature Dark Cloud 2, and while beautiful, i just get sick of the cel-shaded crap after a while in 3D. Also DWVII is just so freaking boring and monotonous, I don't know if I'll even play VIII until IX is out when you can get VIII in the used bin at EB for .50c
I've been waiting for a FF I could love since IX came out, and XII looks like it can fit the role. I kind of wish the battles weren't real time just b/c I play FFXI so much, I'd kind of like a break. But in any case, even if the battle system ends up sucking(though I don't think it will) the story looks incredible, and the game is stunningly beautiful no matter what other flaws it has.
If DWVIII is "funner" than the others were I might, in the end, enjoy it immensely, but I think even if it's the best DW ever, FFXII'll be more than enough to overpower it.

FFXII much more. DQ makes a good 8 bit series, but doesn't really compare with what you can get today.

I've not really looked much into Dragon Quest. I'm always up for a good RPG though, so if it looks promising I'll definitely give it a go.
But FFXII is what I'm anticipating, if for the wrong reasons.

I've always much preferred FF to DQ, and I don't see that changing.
