Since seemingly every other forum has a riddles thread, I thought we could do one for Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. Usual rules apply: the first person to guess the correct answer makes the next riddle, unless they don't want to do it. At that point, anyone can step in and make the next riddle.

This riddle might be a little vague, but let's see what everyone can make of it.

If "fate" had a soul, then I would be it, though a soul neither of us has.

Good luck!

um...maybe lynx

Masamune·1600
03-27-2005, 01:46 AM
Good guess, but not quite. Keep trying!

ShunNakamura
03-27-2005, 02:22 AM
I would have to guess... Robo or his technical name whatever it is?

Masamune·1600
03-27-2005, 02:42 AM
You're thinking the right way, but you're not quite there yet. Keep trying!

Sepho
03-27-2005, 02:55 AM
I've no idea, so I'm going to randomly say Harle. My guess would immediately have been Lynx. Isn't he supposedly suppose to be a physical manifestation of fate, or something of the sort? It's been a good long while since I've played Chrono Cross, granted.

Masamune·1600
03-27-2005, 03:14 AM
It's not Harle. Lynx makes sense in a lot of ways, but he's not quite what I'm looking for. Without giving too much of a hint, it might help to think of both Chrono games in this instance.

Maya
03-27-2005, 07:33 AM
wild guess, but is it Schala Zeal?

Masamune·1600
03-27-2005, 07:53 AM
No, sorry. Interesting guess, though.

You can solve this riddle having only played Cross, while you'd be relying on pure guesswork if you've only played Trigger. Trigger might help remind you of something, though.

Maya
03-27-2005, 08:25 AM
ok, my next guess is Belthasar or Lucca because they designed the Fate or it could be frozen flame, but it might be too far fetched, or is it?
:D

Masamune·1600
03-27-2005, 08:36 AM
In a sense, the Frozen Flame is the closest guess yet. But we're not quite there. Keep thinking about "fate" (or rather FATE, which I think most of you have inferred).

Maya
03-27-2005, 08:41 AM
This is my final guess, Lavos, of course. Or was it named Time devourer in cc, what ever.

Masamune·1600
03-27-2005, 08:44 AM
No, sorry!

Maya
03-27-2005, 08:57 AM
well, I´ll try once more, could it be masamune? :D

Promethus? I know I didnt spell that right.

well...the only other person i can think of is serge, is it serge?

Masamune·1600
03-27-2005, 10:48 PM
Wow, the Prometheus Circuit is really close. It's the closest thing that coluld have possibly been said other than the answer itself. You guys are almost there.

EDIT: Although, in retrospect, you probably were referring to Robo when you said Prometheus. I guess I'm just hoping. Well, I guess you can take the original post as a hint, then.

Maya
03-28-2005, 08:50 AM
Is it that red stone/dreamstone? Or possibly time egg?

abrojtm
03-28-2005, 05:38 PM
Mother Brain.

Masamune·1600
03-28-2005, 05:48 PM
Mother Brain is correct. abrojtm has it!

The use of "fate" was obviously a reference to the FATE supercomputer, which incorporated Mother Brain from CT into its circuitry. As computers, neither could have a soul.

abrojtm, you're up.

The lucid one will come to be
A burnished one that none can't see
In the keep far, far away
It is kept-day after day.

Combine it with this holy light,
And you will be able to put up a fight.

Eh, it's pretty easy, I know.

Killy
03-29-2005, 01:17 AM
Wow, I have no idea, its been so long since I played Chrono Cross.

By the way, I was indeed refering to the Prometheus Circuit.

Masamune·1600
03-29-2005, 10:42 PM
I could be wrong, but I think this riddle refers to CT as opposed to CC. The use of the word Keep is making me think of the Sun Keep, and by extension the answer would be the Sun Stone. It seems fairly consistent with the riddle, anyway.

Glad to know that's what you meant. Now I don't have to feel guilty about inadvertently giving out a hint.

abrojtm
03-29-2005, 10:46 PM
Actually, I was thinking Moon Stone (The Lucid one will come to be), but you got the idea. I knew I shouldn't have used the word .keep :p

Ah. Figures. :)

Okay, let's see....

Six-faced am I, yet awed by the dark that sought me at the end. My powers grow in time, though time is all behind me.

There are two very different ways I can see this riddle being interpreted, but I'm only accepting one of them. Good luck!

ehsteve
03-30-2005, 01:17 AM
I'm not really sure, but is it Spekkio?

Masamune·1600
03-30-2005, 04:25 AM
Correct on the first guess! You're up.

Six-faced refers to Spekkio's six forms throughout the game. The darkness refers to Magus, whose power he finds impressive. Spekkio becomes more powerful throughout the game, but resides at the End of Time (hence, time is all behind him).

I would have expected people to also guess the Time Devourer, but wouldn't have accepted it.

I'd have to say it's the party via Garai's Keepsake. That particular item allows you to pass through the mirrors on the Isle of the Damned.

04-03-2005, 09:17 PM
For some reason, I find Chrono riddles harder to write than their FF counterparts. See what you can make of this one....

I am the hero corrupted, the master fallen, the knight errant, the love forgotten. I was twisted by the dark, that was itself once the light; but we were both redeemed, though I not yet remember.

Good luck!

I´ll leave this here if someone is interested:

Water
She freezes all that block her path
Wind
Darkness consumes all
Fire
Eternally her flames will put them to death

Masamune·1600
04-10-2005, 04:29 AM
I'd have to say this is another multi-tech riddle, this time being a Triple Tech, Dark Eternal.

Since both water and ice spells are considered of the Water element, "she" and "freezes" hints at Marle. "Wind" is what concerns me about the riddle, but if I take it to refer to the Dark element (and it does say "Darkness consumes all"), then we see the influence of Magus on the tech. "Fire", "her", and "flames" all point to Lucca. Dark Eternal is the only Triple Tech that involves those three characters, and each uses his or her respective element in it.

abrojtm
04-10-2005, 06:09 AM
Hmm, you're about halfway there I suppose.

Masamune·1600
04-16-2005, 09:46 PM
I've hesitated to reply to this riddle again, since I'm not sure where to head after my initial guess. I'm going to assume I was correct in looking to Chrono Trigger; although Wind would seem more applicable to CC, there are only two Triple Techs in the game, and neither work here.

If one assumes Wind as having to do with storms, then I could make an assumption of Lightning (replacing Magus with Crono in the execution of the Triple Tech). In that case, I would say the answer is Delta Force, a TT performed by Crono, Marle, and Lucca.

abrojtm
04-17-2005, 05:34 AM
I'll give you a couple of hints:
Yes, it does have to do with CT.
Fire, Water, and Wind have nothing to do with the elements assigned to the characters.

Masamune·1600
04-17-2005, 08:45 PM
I think I've identified the part of the game this references, but I'm not sure what the riddle is asking. I remember, when you first go to 12000 BC, there are books that correspond to Water, Wind, and Fire, and opening them in that order gives you access to certain areas. I'll guess the books, then.

abrojtm
04-18-2005, 12:10 AM
You're getting so close, now just put two and two together.

Masamune·1600
04-18-2005, 12:45 AM
I'm guessing it has to do with the Black Rock or the Nus. I'll go with the Nus.

Llanowar
04-18-2005, 01:21 AM
And thats where I think you are wrong I think it is the Black rock since he seems to be referring to the books with the three lone words in the riddle.

abrojtm
04-18-2005, 02:56 AM
Correct, it refers to the Black Rock.

Water
She freezes all that block her path
Wind
Darkness consumes all
Fire
Eternally her flames will put them to death

Water, Wind, and Fire refer to the order in which you have to look at the books in order to obtain the Black Rock.
The other three lines each refer to one of the users of the Triple Tech DarkEternl which it invokes. I hope this was an ok riddle and it makes sense. :(

So I guess Llanowar got it.

Masamune·1600
04-18-2005, 04:49 AM
I guess Dark Eternal and mention the Black Rock and don't put them together? What was I thinking? I guess I somehow dismissed Dark Eternal all together after it didn't turn out to be the answer. Oh well. I look forward to your riddle, Llanowar.

The Frozen Flame? It is responsible for healing Serge, although the complications from this encounter are obviously enormous. Since this encounter caused Serge to become the Arbiter of Time, a number of problems would have been created for Chronopolis, and this certainly would have warranted attention.

Llanowar
04-29-2005, 05:13 PM

Naga-ette bromide.
I am a item without use.
You do nothing with it, just give it to the old man in 600 A.D.

I am guarded. When you pick it up you are attacked by three henchs or something.
You cannot prove you got me without a screen shot. It isn't shown in your inventory.

there are scales and skin on me. I am not sure what bromide is (I'm not native english-speaker) but naga-ettes look scaly.

That sounds quite a lot like Schala's pendant. (I think Schala was the name)
It's small, it shines (The pendant started glowing! when you touch the sealed doors/chests) and the word HER gives hint about female owner. If that's right, someone other go instead of me.

Come-on fellas.. this was for all chrono games right? think it is actually very easy..."Under heaven my strike is" Peerless can stand for "Under heaven my strike is" ________. find that and you should have the answer if you are familar with CC.

ShunNakamura
05-31-2005, 04:13 AM
'fraid not.

remember if you give something to explain it, as long as it was reasonable in my eyes, you would get it.

Grr.. just about rdy to just say it and give someone else a go... How hard can it be?!

Hint- Peerless can mean unequaled. so Under heaven my strike is unequaled.

Hint- Strike and attack can be interchanged as well. So Under heaven my attack is unequaled.

Hint- I am Looking for the character not the attack.

abrojtm

Serge?

ShunNakamura
05-31-2005, 05:20 AM

Hm... this is odd.. perhaps no one else has seen the FaQ that I saw... it states clearly that this is in the final tech(and I have found nothing to refute it) of the character I am looking for.

Mighty force,
under heaven my
strike is peerless.

Hint- Peerless can mean unequaled. so Under heaven my strike is unequaled.

Hint- Strike and attack can be interchanged as well. So Under heaven my attack is unequaled.

Hint- I am Looking for the character not the attack

Hint- the first line is mostly filler, and is irrelevant for the most part.
Under heaven my strike is peerless

Hroth
05-31-2005, 10:14 PM
Well, the final tech for Magus is Dark Matter I think, for Crono it's Lumina or Illumina whatever it's called... I don't know, im gonna guess Lucca cause that's who you are.

ShunNakamura
06-01-2005, 04:51 AM
wow.. ppl are missing this.

Sigh.. perhaps an easier one?

Mighty force,
under heaven my
strike is peerless.

Fargo's Invincible(his "ultimate tech") is what is described. I have been told that the kanji that appears during the attack means "An attack unequaled under heaven." I have also seen this on numerous faqs.. so it the chance of it being right is slighly increased.

Lets try again.. this time lets do a CT one.

I can Change the flow,
alter the course, and I find

This should be easy enough.

Yeah, that's him.

Let's see....

Not seen in this universe
Explains the first third of this course
Second part and third part, too
Combines contrasting red and blue
Yes: three-way course exploits this power;
Black beyond the final hour.

What does this refer to?

06-02-2005, 01:38 AM
The end of time? Or the Bend of time in CC?

ShunNakamura
06-02-2005, 03:07 AM
Well whilst I am slightly off on the name.

Your riddle reminds me of the place in the ____ (Dead sea?) where you have to fight the freind of Serge's father... the place that is a copy of nadia's bell from Chrono trigger... GAh... why can't I recall the name.

I'll look it up after posting this and make an edit. but this is what I got for now.

[Edit] Right I am thinking of when you fight Miguel in the dead see. that place reminds me of your riddle.

The only other places I can think of where your riddle could be are-

The Sea of Eden when you fight those Vita things.

And Chronopolis... Chronopolis is where much is explained.

Masamune·1600
06-02-2005, 04:05 AM
The riddle doesn't refer to the End of Time, the Bend of Time, any part of the Tower of Gheddon, Chronopolis, or any location at all, actually. The riddle might be a little difficult, but I'll wait for more responses before I start giving hints. Good luck!

ShunNakamura
06-02-2005, 06:51 AM
no location? wowzers.. this may be tougher then I thought.

Well when I look at I can't find any way that fits all of it. but Serge seems to fit some of it.

Not seen in this universe- Depending on whom you are, the older serge is not seen in your universe.

Explains the first third of this course-not sure

Second part and third part, too-not sure

Combines contrasting red and blue- White element has both strong attacks(red) and strong healing(blue).. although blue still has the best healing element.

Yes: three-way course exploits this power;- Not sure about three but there are 2 ways "serge" goes. Dark Serge and Regular Serge.

Black beyond the final hour.- Serge gains lynx's body thus black at one point.. plus dark serge was dark serge till the end(if memory serves)...

yeah.. not right(or so I am sure of it) but good guess if I say so myself :P

Masamune·1600

Interesting guess, but the answer is not Serge, nor does it relate to him in any way.

My guess is "Dark Eternal"

It explains the Red, the Blue and the Black, and the three way course thingy.

Correct! By the way, "not seen in this universe" refers to the phenomonon whereby "Dark Matter" (a reference to Magus' role in the Triple Tech) is, in real life, invisible to science (other than the fact that gravitic patterns and so on suggest that it must be there). Red and Blue are Fire 2 and Ice 2, and "black beyond the final hour" refers to the answer itself.

Nakor, you're up.

Lord Xehanort
07-03-2005, 03:17 AM
You mean the 'Relics'.

But that's wrong. It's Dragon Tear. You said it in your last post, so I'll give it to you.

Azure and shattered- blue and broken
The six cry around- six dragons... cry=tears
After the crash- crashing sound of Lynx shattering it
Only half can be found- Tear of Hate

A journey to thither
and hither again- bouncing between worlds
Use it whole to recieve half- you get the entire dragon tear, use it, and then only recover half... Tear of Love
Animals become men- Lynx and Serge switch roles again

Messengers of God...misguided?

(Well, one loses all beside the Blue)
Who suffers then, errors celestial?
(One who split timelines terrestrial)
Then, can this one restore his Space?
(The answer lies quite near this Place)
But why do these answers so confuse?
(Because we're never told what she did choose)

What does this riddle refer to?

1st off I'd like to apologize for not returning sooner
Got caught up in FFXI :greenie:

2nd I don't think you should Give anyone mor ethan 4-5 days to return before you jump in and take thier question. your just condeming this wonderful thread to an early grave if you wait for poeple.

3rd and Finally the Riddle.
I'm pritty Sure this riddle inclues things from Both CT&CC
Now I only Played CC once, and I rushed, But i'd like to think im one of the many CT Guru's

Im not sure this Riddle refers to any one person or thing, so i'll do a piont by piont to see if i can see what parts refer to what.

Messengers of God...misguided?
(When Time and Space are undecided)
Are people, then, people misguided too?

This could refrence the Ghosts of the CT characters you see in CC.
Seemingly this would fit, but the 3rd line doesnt sit right with me. So i think im wrong at least on these Verses.

(Well, one loses all beside the Blue)
Who suffers then, errors celestial?
(One who split timelines terrestrial)
Then, can this one restore his Space?

this to me deffinatly Refers to Schala. She Lost everything in CT except the world, she was sent somewhare in time. seemingly the 2nd line blames God/some Celestial for her Suffering. Possibly Lavos, because the 3rd line reffers to a terrestril, which to me could be Lavos.
This Last Line to me, is asking if Schala will be able to reunite/restore Janus.

(The answer lies quite near this Place)

wow, to me this could be so many places. "IBCrayZ" said "Opassa Beach?" thats one possibility. Schala & Janus are Deffinetly tied there somehow. Also could be someplaces from CC that im not really familar with.

But why do these answers so confuse?
(Because we're never told what she did choose)

Once again I'd say deffinatly refferenceing Schala here. The Answers to these other Questions Confuse us, because even in the end of CC we never really find out what Schala chose to do. (I'm not confidant of this because of my unfamilarity with CC) We don't know if/how she chose to save Janus.

Anyway thats what i Gather'd so i guess my Answer would be this Riddle Refers to Schala and the Parts of the Story Lines of CT&CC that involve her (wow, that sounds like a very General Statment).

Pant Leg Eater from the Bad World

I would like to add my interpritation to yours Nakor.I believe this is from CC. though I do like the way you think.

Messengers of God...misguided? The Place Where Angels Lose Their Way?
(When Time and Space are undecided)Possibly the two split dimensions
Are people, then, people misguided too?Referring to Lynx maybe?
(Well, one loses all beside the Blue)Serge is lost into the ocean(blue)
Who suffers then, errors celestial?Lavos is errors celestial, everyone suffers
(One who split timelines terrestrial)serge split the timelines with his life/death
Then, can this one restore his Space?again referring to Serge and his quest to fix stuff
(The answer lies quite near this Place)Only place where you can cross timelines
But why do these answers so confuse?
(Because we're never told what she did choose)Unsure about these last to but I think it has something to do with FATE or Schala

Masamune·1600
07-28-2005, 02:44 PM
Okay, down to cases. :)

Opassa Beach is very close, but is not the exact answer I am looking for. The imagery should suggest something slightly different. You're correct in assuming, IBCrayZ, that this riddle is from CC. The last line does refer to Schala, but only within the context of Cross, not Trigger. I'm not sure if any of the line interpretations from the last post was an answer to the riddle, but I need an explicit answer in order to credit it.

Nakor, good suggestion about the four to five days. I would have stepped in sooner, but I didn't want to take the riddle away from you.

Good luck.

If you're referring to the Dimensional Vortex, where Serge (in the form of Lynx) meets Sprigg, then that's not what I'm looking for. The answer does involve the fluctuations of dimensions, though.

Masamune·1600

ShunNakamura
08-14-2005, 10:33 PM
It is a CC riddle.

It has to do with Opassa Beach.

It has to do with the Astral Amulet.

It is not the portal you use the time egg on.

Only thing that comes to mind is the "where angels lose their way" location. Or the portal you use to travel back and forth between worlds.

Masamune·1600

"Where Angels Lose Their Way." Yes, Angelus Errare is the answer to the riddle. Angelus Errare is a dimensional distortion allowing movement between the parallel realities of Home World and Another World. You're up, ShunNakamura.

For anyone that's curious, here's a breakdown of the riddle.

Messengers of God...misguided?

The word "angel" basically means "messenger". Messengers of God are clearly angels, and misguided angels might have "lost their way."

(When Time and Space are undecided)

Home World and Another World are parallel realities; essentially undecided time and space.

Are people, then, people misguided too?

A reference to the overcontrol of FATE, whose influence has been altered in Home World by Serge's survival.

(Well, one loses all beside the Blue)

The Angelus Errare phenomenon is accessible at Opassa Beach; Serge travels to Another World next to the ocean.

Who suffers then, errors celestial?

Kind of a filler line, really. "Celestial" is another hint that I was looking for something "angelic," though.

(One who split timelines terrestrial)

Serge, the Arbiter of Time, obviously.

Then, can this one restore his Space?

Can Serge get back to Home World? Alternatively, can Serge bring about the restoration of Time-Space?

(The answer lies quite near this Place)

Depending on how one read the previous line, this deals with either Angelus Errare directly or with the Darkness Beyond Time.

But why do these answers so confuse?

Why is the ending (and the Darkness Beyond Time is in close proximity to the phenomenon that is the answer to the riddle) so ambiguous?

(Because we're never told what she did choose)

A reference to the contested view of the ending where Schala bears the responsibility of dictating the "correction" of time. I really just included this to end the riddle.

ShunNakamura

Let's see...

Four selected at a time
All four begin this simple rhyme
Four there were, but then mischance
Forced one from our lyrical dance
Or perhaps zero is more true
(Don't challenge Death beyond the blue)
Yet Somwhere else, three may still live
And fourth may yet have time to give
But does this time still bear mischance
Do past sins demand another glance?
Four there were, and four there are
If you purify that which was marred.

Who or what are the four?

G SpOtZ
08-25-2005, 04:57 AM
hmmmm.... i was gonna say the four devas just because you said 4, and
"yet somewhere else, three may still live,
and fourth may yet have time to give"
radius was the only 'missing' deva, i guess you could say. don't have that much to back up my answer, but just getting a start at it i guess.

Masamune·1600
08-25-2005, 05:03 AM
Actually, you're right; I was referring to the four Devas. The riddle was meant to suggest the current generation (the fourth and missing one being Dario, of course), though. You could say there was a missing Deva for the previous generation as well, but we never find out who it is (we only know of Garai, Radius, and Zappa). The big hint regarding the current generation was the Dead Sea reference, where Home World Karsh, Zoah, and Marcy would not have returned from.

In any case, you're definitely correct in saying the Devas. You're up, G SpOtZ!

wielding fierce darkness at my edge,
it was only a matter of time that the twins' light awaken.
so that i could finally take a pledge
to my new beholder, the arbiter, the kaden.

what am i?

should be easy enough. btw, don't try to look up kaden anywhere. it's a word from another language, but i'm not sure which one. it doesn't have much to do with the riddle, just to make it rhyme, so i'll let ya know now that it simply means "fighter"

A being from the past
Once warped into the future
Only to be warped back to the past
And become a prophet

Who is the riddle talking about?

Magus

I concur. Magus/Janus is the only one I think it could be.

With the power of
seven; deciding the path
of fate itself.

It ain't the best riddle. But i am fairly tired now and I get to work a good amount on tommorrow(stupid 5:30 in the morning.. or earlier) and the day after. Won't be able to check till about 5-8pm on either day(depending on how long it goes).

the only thing i can think of is the ct crew... there's crono, robo, marle, lucca, frog, magus, ayla. seven. unless i'm missing someone... i haven't played for awhile. the riddle is pretty vague...

ShunNakamura
08-27-2005, 05:21 AM
I intentially did that so that it may take more then one guess. If no one else gets the answer I was thinking of by tomorrow night, then you get it. Afterall it does fit. Though I was thinking of something else.

And as I said it ain't the best worded riddle. Depending on how you read it can be taken several different ways. Just remember it can be from both CT or CC.

Oh yes the reason why I did not use that as THE answer to the riddle is because you do not need to get magus in your party. Thus in CT it can be 6 or 7. Keep in mind this riddle is a bit on the nasty side. Not a good one. But I was afraid I would have to keep you guys guessing for about 24 hours.. unfortunately I was unable to sleep.. so here I am again

i have another answer. the dragons from cc?

there are seven total dragons. they change and create terra tower after you defeat FATE

also, it could be the elements. there are 7 element colors, and then there is the Chrono Cross. i would think the chrono cross as the "power" of the seven.

you use the chrono cross to get the better ending for fighting the time devourer.

ShunNakamura
08-27-2005, 05:41 AM
Yep the Chrono Cross is it.. but jeez you found two other answers that are at least applicatable.. dang. Anyways I think I will have to double check my riddles somemore before posting them... that is why you don't write riddles when 3/4 of the way asleep.

Let's see...

Past, Present, and Future
Time's three unseen ghosts
Yet they guard the true answer
(The one that matters most.)

Past, Present, and Future
Home to that life which tests
those that rail against fate,
those the Dragon God "blessed."

Past, Present, and Future,
Three views of the Thread,
Which then grants us entry,
Or leaves our three dead.

To what does this riddle refer?

ehsteve

Obviously something to do with the Sea of Eden. Is it Vita Uno, Vita Duo and Vita Tres?

I was nothing but a snack, meant to be roasted on fire.
But I grew.
I changed.
I am a master swordsman. But not in the usual package...

"i guess i've faced the facts.
he's never coming back.
i've wanted to see his succession,
of what i heard in the letters.
but the letters stopped coming,
and i've gotten slightly lonely,
but i have one person living with me,
and i'm becoming old.
my memory is fading."
little does she know, the search will unfold.

i'll accept 2 answers, because there's 2 people that this is related to.

EDIT: actually, i want both answers. lol.

well, i guess it could work, if this riddle was in an ff forum. but this is cc and ct so obviously it's not from any ff games ^_^

I think he was just saying that the riddle could have been used like that for FFVI.

Anyway, I believe the riddle refers to Skelly and his grandmother.

Let's see...

Guidance, placebo, or even worse?
Simple dependence, or still deeper curse?
Lives thus directed, and free will abolished
System perfected, Regulation polished
Still, fate would conspire against the fate of fate
(Formation of death does all things negate)
Yes, we see that in two timelines' division
One world can try to make its own decision.

What does this refer to?

An enigma I am
Shrouded by night.
Look into the sky
And watch out for a fright.
On all layers of space, time, life-you will fight.

An abhoration I am to the trio of men-
Only after you defeat me will the true fight begin.

It the Black Omen

An enigma I am- why does it float
Shrouded by night.-cant be seen at night, cause its black
Look into the sky- its floating in the sky
And watch out for a fright.-its scary
On all layers of space, time, life-you will fight.-found in all timezones

An abhoration I am to the trio of men- -you characters hate it
Only after you defeat me will the true fight begin.- beat it and then fight lavos.
