View Full Version : Reconsider custom titles

Why 8 months? The distinction loses its value when they are handed out randomly, also.

I think since custom avatars are available at the onset of registration, that custom titles should also be granted. I don't have any great reasons why they should, but I can't think of any great reasons why they shouldn't, either.

it gives you a reason to consciously stick it out for 8 months. I know when I was a newbie I kept coming back every day or months because I wanted that cool custom title.

I think staff is only giving out random ones now because its almost April Fools.

They gave them out to make fun of the Crash campaign. Actually, it's a job title (like recognized member or Cid's Knight), not a user title. The mods can change the job titles at any time without the rules going against them.

really only admins can change the titles, but yes.

Yours is a user title, not a group title, Terra*Aeris.

Anyway, eight months is good. It's not good to break tradition.

I waited my eight months (though I don't remember when I finally got one), and everyone else should too. It would be a mockery of us oldbies if the newbies didn't have to do the same thing. After all, when we used to go to Feedback, we had to walk UPHILL in the FREEZING SNOW, and then back home, UPHILL in the BLAZING HEAT, when you guys get it with a click.

Okay, now I'm confused...someone else said it was some kind of group/job title.

So if I leave for a year and come back, it's not quite showing any kind of conscious effort of staying, but I'll be rewarded nonetheless. Why not a post amount in lieu of time?

No, it's a user title :p Group titles would be too much effort, especially considering you guys all have different spellings for it :p

Post counts are disabled here.

Terra*Aeris, if the title were a group rank then it would appear to the far right of your name in your profile screen.

EDIT: What he said. :p

Okay. Since it didn't require much effort...not to be pushy, but when will you be fixing it for me?

I believe I said I'd consider doing it, I don't ever remember saying I will do it :p

I've yet to consider though, if you're wondering :D

I wouldn't say anything. Having a custom title before your eight months here is pretty awesome.

And it did take a lot of effort too :p All that looking up hexadecimal codes to get the colour right, plus in case you noticed, it's not bold to look like a real title, took a lot of digging around stylesheet instructions on how to undo the bold effect for that part of the text :p

None of the titles look bold to me.

seriously, that's a big compliment and honor to receive a custom title early.

It's just nice having the Custom Title as a milestone to look foward to. It means a bit more when you have to actually wait for it rather then having it immediately upon registration. And I think you need one post in order to have a custom avatar. ;)

It was still a joke on the campaign. Not that the actual campaign was serious anyway. It looks nice if you don't actually read it.

Edit: I had a custom avatar before I even posted once.

That's probably because you're using the 2005 forum style and not the oldbie style. :p I think, anyway. I wonder if that's an overlooked template glitch or deliberate, I guess BoB will know :p

After 8 months, most of the tendancies newbies have to use utterly stupid and cliche user titles have hopefully been ground away and replaced with something resembling creativity and independent thought.

There's more than one style? =O

Yup. There's classic, default, and fluffy puff (pink!) styles. Go into User CP and go to options. You should be able to pick the style you like best.

Just use the drop down menu at the very bottom of every page :p

Y'arrr to that. I still have 3 months to go. I think.

I didn't even notice that drop down menu. I'm slow, I know.

Edit: The green writing is hard to see in fluffy puff style! Actually, the pink needs to be darker because everything is a pain to see right. It all looks like when you walk out and your eyes haven't adjusted. I think I like the default style better.

I'm just glad I only had to wait 8 months, not 8 months and 750 posts.

I'm not gonna go "newbies must wait omz oldbies rox" on everyone, but Miriel is right. It was nice to look foward too. Also, it's easy to tell who's a newbie and who's not with the 8 month thing.

Raistlin
03-28-2005, 03:04 PM
Well, for me it's easy to tell who's a newbie and who's not without the custom titles, too. :p

Caspian

Everyone but you is a newbie, right?

Raistlin
03-28-2005, 04:09 PM
Hardly. There's at least...a half-dozen other non-newbies besides me. :rolleyes2

The availability of custom titles isn't able to be discussed at the current time. Thank you for the feedback.
