I think that was originally meant to be some side quest or path for an extra item that the staff decided was unnecessary and abandoned.

Boxer was just another false rumour, one of many that the game has had circulate about it. As for the cave, it has no purpose. It was left inaccessible. More than likely, it was simply going to allow one to access an item, but that was removed and the envrionment map was never altered.

That's the cave where you can revive Aeris. I used to get that strange feeling until I found out that I could actually revive Aeris there.

rumors from web sources said something like the game writers were thinking of reviving aeris, and there would be a key item in that cave to do it....but the writers/scripters stuck with her being dead and they just shut off the cave...lol...it always seem to revolve around aeris being revived

That's one of the most-often cited pieces of "evidence" toward an Aerith revival being intended, despite Yoshinori Kitase (director and co-scenario writer of the game) saying this in the April 2003 issue of EDGE magazine (a U.K. video game magazine):

"The world was expecting us to bring her back to life as this is the classic convention. But we did not. We had decided this from the beginning. There was a lot of reaction from Japanese users. Some were very sad about it while others were angry. We even received a lengthy petition addressed to our scenario writer asking for Aerith's revival, But there [were] many meanings in Aerith's death and that could never happen."

Thats funny, because I read another article where it said Aeris wasn't originally intended to die, and that thats who Cloud would have ended up with, and they confused the staff when they suddenly decided to kill her. So I think its odd that they would say that they decided it from the beginning. ALso, there was another cave that could only be found in the Debug Room of the PC version of the game, where appearently Aeris was originally intened to die. There is a possibility that that cave could be the entrance to that aswell.

You can get there via the PC version's debug room? How do you get there? I have a save in the debug room. How do you get to that cave?

She wasn't intended to die in the first draft of the script, no, but at that point, they didn't even have Tifa or Sephiroth written in. It was decided from the beginning of actually making the game itself is what Kitase meant. Nomura came up with Tifa and proposed the idea of having Aerith die off, with Tifa then becoming the Female lead.

As for that cave, that's just an alternate screen of the area of the Northern Crater where Sapphire WEAPON and the Materia Tree with Sephiroth's body were located. Refer to this webpage (http://www.ff7citadel.com/secrets/sa_seen3.shtml) for more information.

Ah, I see. Still, its reather odd that Aeris's theme plays in the background. Weimar Pluto Knight VII, follow Squall of SeeD's link to find the Great Cave.

The only thing that suggests is that she was supposed to die later in the game. But she WAS supposed to die at some point. It sounds like the only things they decided to change was the time and place. Sucks.

I'm starting to think about Holy. Dumb for them to change that. Holy has to teleport from Ancients' City to the Northern Crater where Cloud is like "L. . .ight."

Holy has to teleport from Ancients' City to the Northern Crater where Cloud is like "L. . .ight."Holy is a great power deep within the Planet's heart. It isn't at the City of the Ancients. Aeris used the White Materia there, but the White Materia is merely the materia used to call upon Holy.

That vine in FFVII is just like those. You can't always go to all the places you can see - after all, you can see every building of every sector of Midgar during the opening FMV, but your actual ability to explore the floating city is quite limited.
That vine was probably considered as a means of getting to some other location, but that was clearly written out of the final code. So basically, from the player's perspective, it's simply another road that's cut off.

To me, this helps to create the impression that the FFVII world is vast, with so many more unexplored regions other than what you see.
