.ASX to .MP3?

(as the name implies) Does anyone know how to convert .asx files to .mp3 or the like? twould be of some real help if someone did.

Try converting it to wav first using Winamp's wav output plugin, or some other audio editor like Cooledit, or something like Graphedit, than convert it to mp3 with Lame. Why do you want to do this though? You're taking a low quality file, and making it even lower quality because mp3 is a lossy format. If you want to make an mp3, make it from the original CD source or something.
