You know, Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald(only if you live in certain places), Pinball, Dash, and many more. What do you think of the Pokemon series?

I liked it back when it was cool to like it.

I LOVE IT! I have been a Pokemon fan for years!:)

I played Pokemon Red/Blue back in the day, and I had a ball with it (no pun intended), due in no small part to the MISSINGNO glitch and the resulting mass amounts of Rare Candy's and Master Balls. So yeah, I actually liked it a lot because of the fact that it was so easy to cheat.

Then Yellow rolled around, and the glitch was gone along with the fun. I haven't played any of the other Pokemon games besides those first couple. I did have Pokemon Snap for N64, though, and I thought that was kind of nifty.

My vote goes to "I like it", but barley. It's a good series, but there is little variety between all the games in the big picture. I hope that "Emerald" turns things around.

Dixie
03-31-2005, 09:56 PM
To Sepho: MissingNo. is in ALL of the Pokemon games. It just got harder and harder to find it.

To Sephex: Emerald is supposed to own all of the Pokemon games. Rumors are flying around. I heard that Munchlax(pre-evolution of Snorlax) is in Emerald.

The glitch that duplicates your items? Are you sure?

Dixie
03-31-2005, 10:00 PM
Yep. I've encountered it using my Action Replay. BUT!

Instead of one MissingNo. in R/S, there are 3! 2 kill your game completely an the other one is an ok MissingNo. It is just like a Pokemon, but it dissapears after a while.

Sepho

I suppose I'd need an Action Replay then, eh? If so, then no dice.

If not though, then I may eventually try out some of the new games.

Pokemon is awesome. Cute creatures, that you can collect, that evolve, and that you can level up and battle in an RPG game. It's addictive and fun. I'm playing Pokemon Leaf Green, but I agree that you wouldn't really wanna play all the games in the series, there would be little point.

Five years ago I was the first person on the scene with it in my school :D. I cost everyone so much money...
I havent played or watched it in ages although I was totally obsessed way beck when. I might pick up fire red sometime if Im in the mood for nostalgia.

The series is fun.. and can have some interesting combos... but meh... I have played better.

Main reason I play it is to raise my pokemon. As a raising game it leaves a tad to be desired.. Princess Maker surpases it in that area so I play it instead much of the time. Pokemon still is alright though.. and since so many(if not all) are portable, you can play it on the run. Doesn't effect me any though... I take my laptop with me wherever I go... even on school trips so I would have PM anyways :P

I like them but FireRed and LeafGreen say to me they're running out of ideas even though basically its the same idea and all done with better graphics and more poke'mon. Yet I still like them they're extremely addictive and the spin-offs are horrid, Dash. Stadium, Coliseum aren't fun, at all. I just liked them but I'm losing faith and interest in the series.

It was good when it came out but now its not as good as it used to be and should. Gotta know when the cow is out of milk and then make the next cow better.

actually in Japan the games came out first after the Manga success

the best games of the series were G/S and R/S

Fr/LG were alright but i got bored of using old pokémon but the sevii islands and the few johto pokemon even the new moves were very good

I haven't bought any since Gold, but they were excellent games. The idea was simple, but fiendishly addictive. Catching all 150 took absolutely ages, which gave the game a decent lifespan as well.

I liked it, the games were fine, especialy for GB games, although the newe r ones are getting too repetive, and some of the new monsters look like the designers are getting out of new ideas.

nah

doubt that

the best thing is that all the cool Pokémon don't get embarressed by the show excluding the birds Lugia and Suicune

the show is a mass flop an embarressment to the name i liked it about 7 years ago but now nooooooo not the show

BatChao
04-03-2005, 11:47 PM
The core RPG line was awesome when it first came out... but they really haven't done much to evlove it... the only major differences between Red/Blue/Yellow/Green/Whatever and Ruby/Emerald are just graphics and more Pokemon. They REALLY need to change the battle system... I'd love for the new Cube Pokemon game to have a revamped battle engine that really captures the excitement on a Pokemon battle.

As for spinoff games, the only one I really like it TCG. Pinball was okay too, though.

I think when Pearl and Diamond come out on the DS, The battle style will be changed dramaticly.

I've played and completed:

Red, Yellow (well, it was a friends copy), Silver, Crystal (on ROM, I was bored one weekend) and Sapphire.

I did have a play of Fire Red, had a nice squad of level 12 monsters before Brock, but my save magically disappeared thanks to this computer, and I never had the motivation to restart.

The games are fun, especially if you can battle against your friends, but all the other stuff (the countless pieces of merchandise, cartoon, etc) never really appealed to me.

Dixie
04-04-2005, 01:48 PM
Aren't ROMs illegal?

Heath
04-04-2005, 03:00 PM
As far as I'm aware, you're allowed them for 24 hours and then they must be deleted, unless you own the actual cartridge. As was the case with Fire Red xP

I prefered playing Silver on the PC instead of the game boy, myself, as it's more comfortable for me to play using a keyboard and monitor instead of the GBA.

I've not played any of the console Pokemon games other than Pokemon Stadium, which was quite fun with friends, and of course with them, it wouldn't be a problem like with the GB games.

Whilst the 4 move only thing is annoying, I suppose it adds to the strategy of the game, by only letting you have a certain number of moves. Some Pokemon could have about 30 moves through TMs and HMs though if there was no limit o.o

Dixie
04-05-2005, 10:18 PM
I don't like the four move thing, either. I prefer at least 10 moves to choose from.

i'd bite that pikachu bugger's head off then turn him on a spit. then i'd eat him while i had tin foil in my mouth; just to add a new definition sto shockingly horrid (or replace horrid with your desired word).

actually how it should probably be done is, the number of learnable moves depends on the pokemon.. some pokemon woudl have better "memory" then others...

or it could be that each pokemon could have so many AP's(ability points) and each move has a certian amount of AP it uses, thus, you could have many many weak moves... or 1 or 2 mega crushing moves.. or some such... still I think the pokemon type should make a difference in memory.

I liked the Pokemon the most when it first came out with Red & Blue. Addictive, simple, great fun with a wide range of creatures on offer. It was really cool how the Pokemon in someone's possession sometimes matched their personality in some way.

I still like Pokémon. Actually I was owner of a Pokémon site. Unfortunatelly, it was hacked and I had to close it before anyone's mail could be hacked too. I make a lot of Pokémon sprite edits these days and looks like I'm the only one here who likes Yellow more than other versions... :rolleyes2

I enjoyed it as an RPG for awhile. I think Gold and Silver were the best ones thus far. I've not yet played Fire Red and Leaf Green, nor do I intend to. If they want to keep my attention, this is what they should do:

Upgrade to Game Cube or Nintendo's next gen system (you'll see why in a minute).

Battles in real time

More attacks that may be learned and remembered (I like the AP idea, as they progress in level they can learn more and certain pokemon naturally have higher AP than others)

I know Nintendo's really been stupid about this, but support online play. (Actually, I think it'd make a pretty kickass MMORPG if it were done correctly)

Randomly generated trainers so there are an infinite number of trainers you can face, some of which are stronger than you and some of which are weaker, etc. etc.

More TMs and HMs with the ability to buy most of them, especially the good ones.

If you MUST make them prizes at the casino, the ability to buy a lot of coins at once so you don't have to spend hours upon futile hours trying to buy it.

Ability to catch every pokemon in the game, or at very least its unevolved form (encountering a wild Bulbasaur, for example).

Different paths available, such as breeder, trainer, gym leader, etc..

All the worlds can be visited.
