As I peruse through this list, I don't see anything that would constitue a rock song in general except for what is on Dr.K's list. Pretty much everything else is pop. I don't mean pop as in boyband, I say pop and mean it's not rock, it's sell out music, and doesn't really hold any purpose in the music except for the artist to get money.

And besides, most of it is metal that has started to suck over the years. I am referring to Metalica and NIN for that matter. It's all starting to mellow out and turn into what the people want to hear, not what they originally did.

Anyone heard of KISW Top 1000? It's a pretty comprehensive list.

Yeah, I saw him in February when he was touring with Gov't Mule. I'm starting to like the fact that I live in Charlottesville: We get Warren and Derek within two months of each other.

Oh my GOD.

I don't think I've been more jealous of anyone. Everytime Hayes comes to Asheville for the Christmas Jam, I ALWAYS miss it. And he's rarely ever in the area (although he WAS here, with the Allman Brothers just a few weeks ago... but still, no money, can't afford it).

Yes, I love Warren Hayes. :)

Break on Through -- The Doors. That's rock n roll. And Magic Man by Heart, and honest to God some of the faster Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers stuff. Slow Ride -- Foghat, almost anything by Lynyrd Skynyrd and AC/DC, Master of Puppets -- Metallica, JOURNEY JOURNEY JOURNEY.

I've realized I'm not making a list at all. I just yeah music yay!

If you're looking for real rock n roll that's more modern, you're going to be hard pressed to find something that's not too light, even though the light stuff is good, too. I just recently got into the Black Keys, but I don't know how modern they are. Everything Zen -- Bush will always be a rock song to me, as will Semi-Charmed Life and London by Third Eye Blind.

And Burn it Black -- Injected is an AWESOME rock song.

EDIT: Oh man, I look at some of other people's lists in this thread, and it makes me so happy and excited. :)

... well... once upon a time there was someone saying: 'Art is hidden in the eye of the observer'........okay, in this case it might be the ear ;)

.... and this 'nu-metal'-thing.... I guess, classifying music is a nice thing, but has its limits. There are bands, playing music of different genres, so it's not very useful to put the band into a certain genre-pot. I thought, this song might be accepted as a rock song, since to me it sounds like rock in a way, but if you feel offended by my dilettante music classifying, I'll edit the post and delete this song ;) .

I'm not even going to list anything, lest I be bomarded by posts by the rock nazi's who think that only one type of music can be rock. :/

Also the "anything that hasn't come out 40 years ago isn't rock" nazi's as well.

How about this... the Derek Trucks Band came to Charlottesville last night, I went, I was in front of the stage literally 2 feet away from Derek; and then after the show I got on the tourbus and had a beer with him and got him to sign some things for me. How's that?

I'm not as big of a Derek Trucks fan as I am a Warren Haynes fan, and I don't like beer, but I think you win. ;)

Recently I've been listening to The Mars Volta, (by recently I mean tonight :D) and I think a couple of the songs I've heard are pretty awesome rock songs. Especially the second to last and last sections of "Miranda That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore".

Johnny B. Goode by Chuck Berry is the definition of rock 'n roll.
