The only time I've ever changed a name was in FFTA, because the clan name was just stupid. Besides, considering that RPGs now have voice acting, if they disabled the option to rename charaters, every character's name would be written into the script. Having Tidus never being referred to by name in FFX was very annoying.

I usually name my characters their original names, but this last playthrough, I told my roommate I'd name all my characters after random everquest characters that he sees at the time (since he is always playing everquest).
